  • I was in the same boat three years ago (also at 38!). I was able to lose 90 pounds and get my blood sugar cholesterol and blood pressure under control without having to go on meds. I'd be happy to give you some pointers if you want them.
  • Invest in a rice cooker. Soak the oats overnight in the cooker with as much water as you'd use for the same amount of white rice.   • I often get 1/2 pint packs of berries (raspberries/blueberries, or especially blackberries) when they are on sale at the grocery store. Very refreshing and really low-cal. Or mini-carrots, those really fill you up as well. 1 cup of plain cheerios is only 100 calories. It's a bit dull, but they last you a while!
  • Absolutely, I love them by them selves or with some black bean salad.
  • Plan some snacks for mid morning and mid afternoon. It helps to have small amounts of food during the day. Delmonte has pear or pear slices packed in water. Each serving is 50-60 cals each. Baby carrots are good too.
  • Buy him a Meccano set, in the States it's called Erector. They usually have some sets at Costco. Very fun stuff for anyone who likes to build and tinker.
