Bumping this... There are some great ideas jere

ummmm, pretty sure you burned more than 80 calories during an hour of zumba. It can be pretty intense. I've never used a watch style HRM. I've always had a chest strap...I don't know, they just seem more accurate to me. I've worn mine during a kickboxing class (with heavy bags) and burned approx 700 calories in an hour.…

I'm "running" my 3rd half marathon at the end of March. My first one was a year ago and my goal was to finish - which I did and I was on a runner's high for days. My second was in December and I was on track to beat my previous time by 15 minutes or so.....well, that was until I got bronchitis. I did the race anyway but…

Hi! I actually thing the IPOARM is easier for me to stick too. I have the same amount of calories every day so it makes it easier to plan meals. I have more energy and I'm not as hungry on the days I don't work out. Good luck! I really think it works and is sustainable over the long haul.......

I think you sound like you're doing a wonderful job. So many pregnant women use it as an excuse to eat whatever and whenever they want. One of my friends gained 90 lbs with each of her pregnancies.....and she didn't lose 90 inbetween either. You are feeding your baby healthy and nutritious food. As long as your healthy,…

And what if he calls your bluff and buys that ring? Will that fix all of the unhappiness in the relationship. No it will just put a bandaid on it for a little while. Find a food counselor or minister in your area that knows how to ask the questions needed for you to truly figure out what's best for you.. Ask him to go to…

Anyone feel free to add me. I'll be 44 at the beginning of April. Since I turned 40 I've lost 80 lbs. it can be done!!!! However it's now a daily struggle to maintain the loss so I'd love some motivational friends to help keep me on track. And in return, I'll help in any way I can!!!!!

And remember that everyone is at different fitness levels. Those people you see just breezing through the class might have been just like you at one point. Everyone starts somewhere. If you put 100% into the workout then you've had a good workout, no matter how long it was. Try not to compare yourself with others - your…

Squats and lunges, if not done properly, can really mess with your knees. Zumba also has a lot of side to side motions which can be hard on your knees if the supporting muscles are not very strong. I'd say go to the doctor to make sure it's really just a sore knee and not something more serious. In the mean time, RICE…

I don't really have an answer for why the scale isn't moving but I did want to say "DON'T GIVE UP". :flowerforyou: Losing weight is not an exact science (yeah, yeah, I know about the calories in, calories out thing but sometimes it really isnt' that simple). Sometimes it takes time to figure out what works for you.…

One of our bootcamp trainers had us do hand release pushups. Start in a full push up position. Go all the way down until you are on the floor, pick your hands up off of the floor for just a second, then push back up to a full push up position. You can belly flop down at first but try not to "seal" back up. He said that…

Yep, this! Where are the fruits and veggies????

Hi! I just got certified as a PADI diver in November - did the open water and nitrox certification at the same time. My brother recommended doing it this way and I thought I'd listen since he has well over 200 dives under his belt. I like the Nitrox because it let's you stay down a little longer. As a runner, apparently…

Wow, I thought I was the only female built like this!! It's so hard to find pants that fit and I have a hard time buying dresses too. My shoulders and back are very broad (strong, like bull) so I still wear between a 14 and 16 in dresses. I can wear a size 8 - 10 in pants.

Go to bootcamp and make modifications to the exercises that seem to bother that shoulder. A good trainer should be able to give you alternate exercises. I've done a bootcamp for 3 years (like you 3x a week for an hour). I was in a car accident about 2 years ago that has left me with pain in my right trapezius/shoulder off…

YUMMMM. I think I might make these for dinner tonight!!

Cool. Just joined the group. I'm running my 3rd half - the Dallas Rock'n'Roll on March 24th. Time to get serious about the training!!!

I'm in TX and I live here mainly because I hate cold weather. I'd rather have 100 degrees over 30 degrees any day. But I have lived in central Washington (state not DC) for a few years and I understand how cold and dreary winters can be. Check out SAD on the internet.....I'm pretty sure that's what made me so miserable…

Very well said!!!!! These changes take a long time...and can be very difficult. A lifetime of habits are not changed in one month.

I do think that, in the past, when I solely motivated by the numbers on the scale it was much easier to give up when I wasn't seeing results. This time (which has been the last 3 years) I've been trying to focus more on non-weight related goals......running a 5K all the way up to running a half marathon. Heck, when I first…

I wouldn't wear one for the longer distances. While it might not chafe on a shorter run, 13.1 miles is a long way and it might start causing "issues". There is nothing worse than raw skin at the bust line.......I speak from experience. OK, well maybe there are worse things but it's pretty unpleasant, trust me on that.

This.....though sometimes its more like 20/80.

cuban picadillo with arroz congri (cuban beans and rice). skinnytaste.com has some really great recipes.

You might want to go see a doctor. There are a lot of reasons you might not be getting your period - all unrelated to body fat and fat in the diet. If it was me I would want to make sure it wasn't something a little more serious........
-
I've always heard that you shouldn't increase running distance by more than 10% every week or so to help reduce the risk of injury. If you've gone from 15 mintues running to 30 minutes running you are adding way more than 10%. If the same workout is getting progressively harder as the week goes on then I would say that you…

I have a friend whose lost about 80 lbs (so have I). We both run and work out with bootcamp and/or crossfit so we both get a lot of wear and tear on our joints. She swears by fish oil capsules to help with her joint pain. Me....I don't see much of a difference when I take them but I also am not on a "lowfat" diet.…

I've heard that green tea helps speed up the metabolism.........

Hang in there!! I think everyone has days where they feel like life isn't going the way they planned. And why can't you eventually do both the computer course and the personal training course? The two aren't mutually exclusive. I know trainers that have a "day job" to pay the bills and train people in the evening because…

I gave up diet coke (soda, pop, whatever you want to call it  ) three years ago, cold turkey. I was probably drinking well over 2 L of diet coke a day. I didn't give up caffeine, I still drink lots of unsweetened iced tea and a few energy drinks here and there. I've had two diet cokes since I gave them up.....both…

I've never tried the Rocktane but one of my best running buddies used it during her first half marathon - they were giving it away at a water stop. She got horribly sick from it - regular Gu doesn't bother her. Not sure what the difference is but it could be the high level of caffeine in the Roctane?
