Funny... on my bike rides I find I get a dry mouth and have to suck a mint to get the juices flowing. However, as a cyclist, it's cycle-snot that I have most trouble with. My poor cycling gloves find it hard to cope with it all at times

Have you perhaps also considered a desk bike? They are normally a lot less expensive than normal static bikes and can be used in a variety of locations and with a variety of chairs to best suit you.

Electronic devices do not transmit accurately through water, so chest-strap HRMs will not give a true reading (unless you only swim backstroke and have your watch out of the water too. You do get other watch-like gizmos, such as Swimovate Poolmate, that count your laps and give you a calorie burn based on your…

Moths.... just hate the way the flap and buzz around lights. Don't really like any flying insects although I don't mind butterflies and dragonflies, funnily enough (perhaps because they never come into the house!)

The poll was conducted by the BBC World Service, a news and information service that has been providing unbiased new reports to the world for 80 years. Apart from it's 24-hr English language service, it also broadcasts in 27 languages. Most of it's audience are politically well-informed, not your average Joe. I've been to…

If you like and enjoy Chinese food, then have one of your favourite dishes, eat half and ask for a doggy-bag for the leftovers. if you're not that fond of or are unfamiliar with Chinese dishes, there is usually some basic dishes offered such as grilled fish or chicken which can be prepared without any of the amazing sauces…

I don't think you ever do. Anyone who loses a significant amount of weight and wants to keep it off needs support & encouragement to do so. Ok, you might get to the stage where you are exercising regularly and/or have your diet sussed, but like anyone else with an addiction - and while this may not apply to everyone on…

I can assure you I have no desire to sleep with any of my female friends. .... and before you ask...nor do I secretly fancy any of my male friends. There may have been one or two in the past (before I became a happily married man) for whom I held a candle, but most of my friends are just that: friends! :glasses:

From flab to FAB in 600 days ... you are such an inspiration Berry  If you don't use the gym, then probably best you save yourself the price of a good meal out per month and quit, but if you mostly use the pool - then it's probably worth it. That's the only reason I pay for gym membership (LA Fitness) and it's worth…

Of course you have an accent... everyone does! Our speech is influenced by many factors: geographical and social being the more obvious. There are as least as many American accents as there are states, if not more. I don't find American accents a turn-off, per se, but I do find it slightly odd that some of my colleagues in…

If I won the Lotto, I would... ♦ hire a PT to make me work on my core strength and make me lift weights ♦ hire a swimming coach to help me improve my stroke and teach me how to swim freestyle properly ♦ have my own swimming pool built

Guess what? There no right way to be gay. There's no blueprint you have to follow, no mould you have to fit. The wonderful thing about humanity is that there are 60.000.000.000.000 permutations. We are all unique, we are all freaks. Beauty comes from within and is very much in the eye of the beholder. That may all sound…

Well, I guess the same goes for all non-electrically powered vehicles, as their exhaust fumes are "polluting" the air even more than a few people enjoying a smoke! I used to smoke, although I was always more or a social smoker and can still enjoy the odd cigarette now and again (maybe one or two a year). My husband is a…

Mimi the Westie and Gus the Schnauzer.... although they're not quite so shaggy nowadays

Indeed, just as the Doctor and Amy had travelled back to ancient China to leave a message on the vase for River, so could the Doctor and River not have travelled back to leave a message for Rory & Amy to travel to a meeting point and bring them back to the 21st Century... or indeed á la Back to the Future they could have…

OK: Reality check: #1 - you have a roof over your head #2 - you have food in your belly (and probably quite a lot or you probably wouldn't be here) #3 - you have an income That's THREE very positive things that many people would kill for the chance to have perhaps even one or two of those. You're a graduate in…

the problem with the Internet is that for every gem of info there's 100 pages of unadulterated sh*te to wade through. But it would be interesting to have some new perspectives. Unfortunately I've read so much BS, little of which is based on any kind of peer-reviewed studies, that my typically cynical Scot's scepticism…

I certainly think there's a lot of truth in that! I have a Polar FT4 which I use when I'm out on the bike. I've used it for walking too, but I doubt it's that accurate but at least it gives me an average heart rate reading. I also track my ride with RunKeeper phone app but the weird thing is the phone app tells me…

This was my Before/After montage once I'd lost 50 lbs... I started at 250 lbs and was just under 199 lbs when I took the "after" pic. I did go down a further 10 lbs, but have since put those back on over the summer and will need to refocus for I still need to lose another 30/40 lbs to reach my ultimate goal weight.

Dairy fat can actually help us lose weight as it helps the transit of other fats out of our system. http://www.nature.com/oby/journal/v12/n4/full/oby200467a.html If you like milk, drink the kind you prefer. Too often we make food choices based on perceived health benefits and pseudo-science/anecdotal evidence - we forget…

Oh it was quite an emotional reunion when one day I looked down and, after years on the other side of Mount Belly, he winked right back at me. Spooning's also a lot better now the belly doesn't get in the way

So Louis Pasteur obviously got it wrong? :noway: Scientist are not all mad professors out to control the world... and blanket statements are of little help to man nor beast. Amazingly enough, our bodies are designed to process chemicals... that's exactly what the digestive process is; from the enzymes in our saliva to the…

That's not really coffee, it's a dessert beverage and it's probably the creamy milk and the sweet flavourings that you crave rather than the coffee content. Perhaps you can make room for one a week as a treat? But if you like coffee... and I do, especially in the morning... then a little milk and a sweetener will take away…

If you don't like it, why eat it? Life's too short to limit our diet to things we perceive to be healthy or good for you at the expense of foods we enjoy and suit our palate. Personally, I love cottage cheese, but it's got to be the proper stuff with lovely creamy fat curds - some makes have almost granular curds and way…

OMG... I too had a crush on Kristy McNichol although I think I also secretly fancied her TV dad James Broderick (real-life father of Matthew "Ferris Beuller" Broderick). I certainly had a serious crush on Gil Gerard as Buck Rogers in the 25th Century as well as Mark Harmon in 240-Robert (and later St Elsewhere) He's still…

I think there are cases (such as Oscar Pistorious) who can compete with able-bodied Olympians and I'm sure Archery and Shooting are potentially also open to both able-bodied and disabled athletes. But there are some events such as wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and partially-sighted football which are events in…

Most beverages are around 95-99% water, so you don't have to drink pure water at all to stay hydrated. Not all water tastes the same. I grew up in Scotland where the water was very soft and tasted delicious cold out of the tap. I lived in London for 10 yrs where the water is extremely hard and I needed to filter it before…

As a resident of the noble and ancient town, I too like to think of it that way.
