  • For me, the entire process of logging, burning more calories than I consume, and losing weight allowed me to come off a cholesterol/triglyceride medication I was taking called simcor. Simcor is a combination of simvastatin for high cholesterol and niacin for high triglycerides. So to answer the OP's original question, I…
  • I weigh every morning before I step in the shower. Despite the annoying fluctuations, it helps me to weigh daily because I make it part of my normal routine to get in the mindset of sticking to my weight loss goals. For others, the daily weigh-in is too frustrating. I think it is all about what drives you individually and…
  • I've been on and off citalopram and risperdal for the last three years. I'm a 5'7" man and started at 164. I gained about 20 lbs to 185 when I first went on it because I got lazy and stopped exercising. After I got used to the medication I picked up exercising again and lost all the weight I gained. Then I went off the…
  • I have a sausage and egg biscuit and black coffee, no sugar, once a week - on Tuesdays. It's 510 calories and fits into my daily calories just fine so no worries. For me, it helps to throw in a little 'junk food' on a regular basis to keep my diet plan from being a total chore. It keeps me on the plan. I just balance out…
  • The scale responded quickly. I started dropping weight after a couple days. The mirror took a lot longer, probably about 4 weeks. What was really surprising is how long it took for other people to notice - about 20 lbs. It was like I was walking around with a secret. The first person who said anything was the check-in…
  • I've been at this about six months and I've lost a little more than 30 pounds so far. For me I spend about 10-15 days averaging around a weight, then I whoosh down about 2-3 lbs and stay there for another 10-15 days. I actually track the stalls and whooshes and make predictions on when my next whoosh will be and how far it…
  • Four weeks ago I couldn't even wear this belt and now I'm on the second notch.
  • I have an underactive thyroid and I take synthroid 88 mcg for it. My bloodwork is kept up to date and my condition seems to be under control. Using MFP I've been able to lose weight, so my thyroid condition doesn't seem to be a hindrance. Just stick with the plan and focus on winning every day. The saved calories add up.…
  • Congrats! I hit onederland on Sunday. It feels good to hit small milestones on the way to longer term goals.
  • I have a road bike set up on a trainer to flexibly turn it into a stationary bike during colder months. The key to stationary biking is to make sure your MFP calorie burn assumptions are lining up with reality. It's easy to spin the stationary bike and not really build up heart rate if the resistance is set too low. One…
  • I weigh daily, first thing in the morning before I step in the shower. I also track a seven day moving average, it seems to smooth out the day to day fluctuations.
  • 14th day coming off risperdal and celexa. Around day 12 I started getting angry thoughts about things that happened just before going on the meds. It's like this angry part of my mind is waking up from a long sleep, picking up where it left off and now I have to deal with the bad memories again. The last few days have been…
  • Now in my 11th day of coming off risperdal and celexa. Dizziness and sleep disturbances have been the two discontinuation symptoms I've had. Day 6 I hardly slept at all. On day 7 I had this continuous buzzing in my head, like static from a radio. On day 9 I was in bed for 14 hours making up for the sleep I lost during the…
  • I'm coming off risperdal...in my seventh day. As I've tapered down from 3 mg to 2 mg to 1 mg to 0.5 mg, I've lost about 5 lbs per 1 mg stepdown right at 4 weeks after the stepdown change. Because the gains and losses happened in large bursts, basically overnight, I'm inclined to believe it is water weight gain. So far I am…

  • My NSV today: I was carded buying beer, the cashier said 'you've lost a lot of weight since that picture was taken.' 'Almost 50 pounds I said.' 'I could tell it was a bunch by your face.' She replied. PS I don't drink much beer anymore lol.
  • I've been on risperdal since October 2012 to counteract paranoid delusions. My pdoc believes I suffered a temporary event and I will not need to be risperdal permanently. I started out on 3mg and gained about 15 lbs quickly. Since then, I have lost about 10 lbs as I've stuck to MFP. During this time, my dosage has been cut…

  • If you think you've given enough time to your current plan and it's not working, by all means come up with a different plan and try that one for some time. Just make sure you give your new plan enough time to figure out if it is working...don't bounce around from plan to plan or you'll never get anywhere.
  • I've been on MFP for two years. I lost about 50 lbs in six months, maintained it for ten months, then was in the hospital and gained back about 15 lbs. I've lost 10 of that back, so I'm down about 45 lbs total now. Put your weight loss in perspective, if it is 5 lbs or 50 lbs, then go find something that same size and say…

  • You can tell from the pictures that along the way, my wife lost about 30 lbs also by bicycling with me.
  • Two years ago I weighed 214 lbs and wore size 38 pants. I started tracking my diet through MFP and started bicycling about 9 miles a day, six days a week. I found the weight came off quickly, losing about 50 lbs in six months. Along the way I found myself changing wardrobe quite often. Now I weigh 170, wear size 32 pants,…
