  • Still here, still debating. While there are a ton of user problems reported with the Fenix, if they were that pervasive, wouldn't they be pulled from the shelves or have some kind of mass recall/update? I've got the think the overwhelming majority of them work just fine. Regardless, I was about to pull the trigger on a 920…
  • Stop. You're overthinking it. Macros aren't *that* important, especially for weight loss. If you aren't losing, eat less. I know you don't want to hear it, but that doesn't mean it's not true.
  • Don't forget... cals in, cals out, brm, tdee, etc etc... it's all just a bunch of estimates. And estimates = variance. Bottom line - if you aren't losing, eat less. IMO, drop cals slightly. Increase carbs a bit if you feel your energy is lacking. 170g protein is pretty high.
  • Lower overall cals.
  • nevermind... get me out of this thread.
  • Squats help, yes... but that's the oversimplified MFP regurgitated version of an answer. In truth, there are far more effective exercises for your glutes, though squats should probably be part of the routine. Look up Brett Contreras and read a few of his articles/workouts. Lastly, diet and genetics will play a large role,…
  • I'd look at what's in it... log each ingredient as closely as I could, then add a little extra fat, because, ya know, deliciousness in restuarants usually = fat and/or salt. I'd double check with existing database entries to make sure my cals/macros are within reason, save it as a meal for easy reference in the future,…
  • Before this thread gets out of control, just start with the basics. Eat a reasonable amount of cals and get some exericse. Be as consistent as you can with your eating, your exercising, and your logging. Be patient. See how things go, then make small changes here and there until you find something you can stick with.
  • For weight loss, eat correctly. As for what to do at the gym, it doesn't matter all that much, just work hard at whatever you choose to do.
  • 10 days isn't long enough to gauge progress/success. Give it 2 more weeks.
  • 5' 7" @ 117 sounds pretty thin. You sure your goals/expectations are reasonable? But to you're question, if you want to lose weight and aren't, then start by eating less.
  • If you have to ask, you're probably fine. You'll know when you need a rest day.
  • Big picture, there is no right or wrong way. MFP will say there is because that's the way MFP is, but really it's all just a big ball of estimates. Everything you do to "calculate" calories in are just estimate. Everything you do to calculate calories out are just estimates. Because it's all estimates, there is a lot of…
  • You have to understand what they are calculating. With MFP you add exercise cals onto that 1739. With TDEE, you don't. So if you burn, on average, 500 cals in exercise per day, then the numbers end up being very very close, within 100 or so of each other. Neither one is necessarily better than the other. It's all personal…
  • Nothing special. I'm eating a fairly small deficit. My recovery isn't what it could be if I were eating more, but it's not preventing me from doing what I need to do at this point. When my training intensity increases it may become a problem, but for now most of my training is long, slow stuff, so some tired legs are…
  • That's a really good analogy. HRMs are not designed for calorie counting, but their functionality can be (and has been) extended to include calorie ESTIMATION. It's just an estimate, just like websites, cardio machines, formulas, and everything else. They give you a bit of convenience because using an HRM allows you to…
  • Training for a half ironman, so not quite the same thing, but basically the same thing. I'm steadily loosing.
  • I want this "feel like a feather" thing some of you are talking about.
  • For me it is.
  • Really hard to know what a bike is going to feel like on the road without actually riding it. So I think that's your next step. Go ride some stuff and see what you think. Once you narrow it down to a few different frames, you can get online and compare specs, builds, prices, etc. There are so many bikes in that price range…
  • Macros aren't as important as many people claim. As long as they are reasonable, most people will be fine. Your numbers are reasonable... run with them for a month or so and see how you do. Then tweak as needed, rinse and repeat.
  • I'm losing weight training for a HIM. I never understood these posts/issues. Shouldn't it be easier to lose weight with higher training loads due to the increased calorie burns? You just can't be stupid about how much you eat the rest of the day. Personally, I could never eat as much during a workout as I burn, so it…
  • There are a ton of options at that price point. IMO, if you've got a good LBS in town, start with the brands they sell. The benefit of drop bars is the additional hand placements. This gives you more options to find what's comfortable, and what's comfortable may change over the course of the ride. With drop bars you've got…
  • Here's the way I see it... Fenix 3 It's just plain cool. And it an do and be everything. Whether it's a 12hr hike with my wife, heavy swim/bike/run training blocks, walking my dog or riding bikes with my kids, the Fenix can track it all. The look/style means it can also be a decent every day watch. Unfortunately, it's also…
  • Bumping this as I get more serious about upgrading my Garmin 610. I'm looking more for a triathlon watch, but am interested in any garmin vs suunto comments. My garmin has been REALLY fussy/unreliable, so I'm hesitant to get another. But there is so much garmin love out there, maybe I just got a dud of a watch?
  • Sanity check... are they really that different, or is it just a marketing ploy? Walking vs running shoes. If they fit well, should't they do basically the same thing? IMO, get shoes that fit right and worry about the rest later.
  • Agreed.
  • It took me a really long time to get my swim stroke and my breathing in rhythm, and up to that point swimming was a nightmare. Unless you have someone watch you swim and can give you some pointers, it's really going to be you going by feel and trying some different things. If you're able to go 10 minutes, then you're…
  • agreed. it's pretty normal for performance to vary.
  • what's "a ton" of money? I suspect my expertise is primarily in bikes that DO cost a ton of money, so...
