Congratulations to…

And it’s been a long time since I was in the 160s, so it feels good to cross that…

My brother and I used to do that, too—and play with the wax drippings, which drove my dad nuts, and squirt orange peel into the flames to make them flare up and spark!

Good for you! I would consider that a major success—allowing yourself a celebratory treat for a special occasion, enjoying it, and not allowing it to tip you back into eating a lot of sugar the next day—that is fantastic! Happy birthday! 🎉

:s So frustrating—I had a reaction to something—probably that awful sunscreen—and broke out in sore red blotches on my face and can’t use any of my nice skincare products. So the skincare habit is reduced to extremely cautious washing and careful dabbing with plain lotion for now. On the plus side, our table settings have…

I love all the things about habit and practice—too many to quote here, but thanks to all for the insights. “OK plateau” is such a helpful idea. I had a pretty good week on my little goals for this month—nice table settings (though I miss the candles now that we are eating dinner by daylight), and I’ve expanded my skincare…

Good for you for making progress on this goal in this first week of daylight savings time. I have a fairly regular sleep schedule, but this week it was a struggle to go to bed early enough to make that one-hour adjustment. It also messed up my eating schedule—it doesn’t seem like an hour should make that much difference,…

Oh, you poor thing! Don't let it get to you--we all have bad cooking days. Yes, I have had many cardboard chickens, but it isn't hopeless! This is the best way I've found for doing boneless/skinless (which I mostly do when adding to something else, like a salad or beans & rice--otherwise it's too blah--and I usually do…

I started around Jan. 1...I’m down about 11 pounds, but more important (for me), I’ve logged every meal every day; enormously increased my consumption of fruit, vegetables, fish, and legumes; and drastically reduced sugar intake. I am hoping these will be sustainable, long-term habits—I’m kind of pleasantly surprised I’ve…

The Romantics do seem right for spring--especially young Wordsworth, with his enthusiasm for nature. 15-20 poems in one semester is truly impressive! I hope the "clumsy snippets" (which probably aren't so clumsy at all) are helping free up your voice and get back in that groove. I got the table truly cleared off tonight. I…

Wow, spring must be in the air with those hosts of golden daffodils--everyone is going gangbusters! @themedalist , thank you for the fascinating insights into memory--I'm so impressed by your work at learning names ahead of a meeting--that's amazing! @PackerFanInGB , good for you for the logging--it sounds like it's really…

Weekly check-in...it’s going slowly! But I guess any progress is good. 2/17 175 2/24 174 3/3 173.5 3/10 173

I love hearing about what poems you're reading! I haven't thought about Cowper in years, but you inspired me to read the poem you mentioned (or the part of it that's excerpted on the Poetry Foundation web site), and it's got some wonderful bits--I like the line about his shadow "spindling into longitude immense."

That is so great! I hope you will keep playing your piano whenever you feel like it. I can't imagine it bothers your husband, but I know that feeling of self-consciousness that stops us from doing things that might impose on others. This does sound like a wonderful day--treats for so many senses (the auditory delight of…

Thank you so much for the validation and encouragement! I decided that I'll have a two-part goal for March: 1. I will follow a bedtime skincare routine with careful cleansing and moisturizing, every night. The reminder will be the (nice, luxurious, new) moisturizer bottle that's now sitting next to my toothbrush. 2. I will…

Goodness, February ended almost without my noticing it. We had a big snowstorm that knocked out power this week, so we had to salvage food from fridge and freezer and do a lot of snow shoveling. I am pleased that I kept up with my daily food logging despite the disruption to our regular kitchen. Cooking on a camp stove…

It’s great reading everyone’s updates—so helpful! For me February is a slog. January was mild and duped me into thinking spring was coming early, but this month has been wet and sleety. This would be ok if I could stay by the wood stove with a book and knitting and cats, but I’ve been busy. My choir has a concert today,…

Ok, I will try! Current weight:175 By Easter: 165 Check-ins on Sundays. Thanks!

@77tes—au contraire, I think it’s a great goal—keeping one’s space tidy is such a help—and for me, at least, it is really hard to do. When I do manage to get things in order I feel so much calmer. (I’ve been somewhat obsessively reading Marie Kondo but haven’t yet dared to plunge into her method—though I did reorganize my…

It’s lovely to read everyone’s inspiring posts—art, homes, exercise, travel! I am plodding along—sticking to my goals pretty well but not feeling too excited about it. I guess that’s the point, though—I want these to be true habits, things I do whether I want to or not! I’ve logged for 50 days straight now, which is…

@MadisonMolly2017–oh, my goodness, what a beautiful goal! Just reading it made me feel inspired. And “Fearless Joie de Vivre” is gorgeous!

Hooray! February isn’t usually a month I jump into joyfully, but I’m feeling so good about accomplishing my January goal (and a little more, as logging my food helped me eat a lot more healthfully, and being more thoughtful about meals made me keep my kitchen cleaner, and keeping my kitchen cleaner made me start keeping…

@themedalist—I’m sorry you don’t feel terrifically successful about your goal for this month, but it’s helpful to me as a newbie to see your example of a thoughtful self-assessment and recommitment to a goal. Thank you for that.

My last Sunday check-in for January, with less than a week remaining in the month. I’ve kept to my goal so far and have logged all my food every day! Hooray!
