  • That is fantastic. Enjoy your 5K--running is addictive!!
  • Bill, glad you are still around, too! Hope you have a quick recovery, and good job keeping up with walks in the meantime! I was not so good about that when I was laid up. Holly, so jealous of you--sounds like you had a great time. Can't believe you lost on vacation!! Don't be embarrassed--you are working hard and you will…
  • Ok, I've been lurking periodically but not posting since I have been laid off of running due to shoulder injury. Thought I'd say hi to everyone! @FireStorm1972, glad you are doing better. I completely relate on the difficulty and happiness after being sidelined! @poke987, I admire you for just walking and elliptical; I was…
  • Glad you enjoyed the clinics! I am jealous--I keep looking for one to go to, but haven't found anything interesting. Either too advanced, too far, etc. I would love to try yoga on horseback. I found a farm in Connecticut that does it, so maybe I will just book a weekend there. When I can afford it. I also heard about a…
  • Congrats! It was eye-opening to me when I read that the food will go to waste either in the trash or in our bodies (by being turned to fat--which I certainly don't need more of!), so it is better to just throw it away. But I do still struggle with this at times.
  • This is my concern, too. I weigh (mostly) daily. I too usually know if I am bloated due to the way my rings fit and if I ate high sodium or drank alcohol the day before. There are apps that you can enter daily weigh in info and get a graph, if you are as obsessive/dorky as I am.
  • If you started at 164, then weighed in at 160, you lost 4 pounds in a little over 2 weeks. I fail to see why this induced panic and buying a different scale.
  • This times 1,000. I never, ever thought I would be addicted, but after being laid up due to an injury for 4 weeks I was going crazy. I always thought the runner's high was a total myth or that I was incapable of it, but after I actually gained some endurance and no longer felt like I was gonna die, I started experiencing…
  • Hi bookworm! Glad you are recovered from the pulled muscle. Sorry haven't been stopping in lately; super busy. I went on a two hour ride Saturday which was lots of fun. Then went for my first real "run" (ok, I run/walk) last night. I actually had the same time as before I got hurt! Couldn't believe it. Planning to run a 5k…
  • Good job, Amee, on working out even when you didn't feel like it! Bookworm, hope you are enjoying the workouts with your husband. If you don't mind my asking, why weren't you happy with the results? I haven't tried any of these workouts, but might want to in the future to change it up. I am still on the DL. Physical…
  • I saw your first two pics, and thought, good progress. Then I scrolled down to the third and thought, dang! You are doing great! It sometimes helps to just stop and remember where you were, and how far you have come.
  • I know a lot of folks have recommended getting up early, but it might be easier just to fit it in either right after work or even after dinner/kids are in bed. That was how I started, and now I do sometimes get up in the mornings to work out, but if I had tried that at the start I would never have stuck with it. Despite…
  • Just a quick note to say hi! Glad y'all are getting your exercise in. The good news is I don't need surgery on my shoulder but the bad news is I am still not able to do anything other than walk. I plan to do a walk workout on the treadmill tonight, hopefully won't be too tired. I'm thinking if I crank up the incline maybe…
  • So I'm being sent to physical therapy for two weeks. Also got some better meds which is nice. Think I may try a run on treadmill later with the sling. Also might go for a slow ride tomorrow or Monday maybe. Probably shouldn't but going a little stir crazy. Dr didn't seem too worried that I would make it worse. It'll either…
  • Holly, congrats on the loss and I am jealous of your upcoming trip! Bookworm, glad your dad is recovering well. And way to go Amee, for working out despite the busyness! Y'all seem to all be doing well with workouts! I'm still in a sling--no broken bones but seeing an orthopedic dr tomorrow. Still in quite a bit of pain…
  • Hey everyone, sorry I've been MIA, it's been really busy lately--end of school year, husband working straight nights, soccer season coming to a close (finally), and trying to fit in all my exercise. Holly, way to go on the C25K, you are doing great! I've been struggling on my eating, too, feeling really hungry from the…
  • You've gotten a lot of good advice, but I would emphasize: 1. Good shoes 2. Slow down You can do it!
  • Accountability. Logging what I eat, even when I get off track, has made a big difference for me mentally. My body is getting the calories whether I log it or not, so I might as well know how badly I've fallen off the wagon so that I can climb back on.
  • Being able to run (albeit very slowly) all the way up the monster hill by my house. It has taken me a year and a half, but I still feel like Rocky every time I get to the top.
  • Ditto the progress and improvement. Just like weight goals, sometimes setting a specific number for a specific date is counterproductive. I set some last year, most of which I achieved. I always have the caveat that I will not push too hard just to get a specific number (which is why my "run 50 miles in one month" hasn't…
  • Hey glad I'm not the only one shooting for September. I'm planning to do the diva half on September 12, which happens to be the day after my 40th birthday.
  • Way to go! Stick with it and you will be amazed at what your body can do. I do not exaggerate when I say that C25K changed my life, and my husband's as well!
  • Hey, I will stop back in and post a longer one in the old thread, too, when I have a minute--I got behind! I got up and ran 3.5 mi today. My 5 yr old said--"Did you go for a run? In the dark?!" He's a cutie. WTG Amee even if it wasn't 570 cal! Good job bookworm for not letting the upset in your life get you off track. Hope…
  • Totally agree with the every other day advice--that is what I did for C25k and it was great (no injuries, minimal soreness). As you progress, you might want to check out Hal Higdon's plans. I am doing the novice half marathon now (so working to increase distance), and it includes strength twice a week, stretching once a…
  • Hollyelise--congrats on the C25K intervals! I loved seeing myself progress doing C25K--it is amazing what our bodies can do. I am kinda sorta doing the bridge to 10K, but have mainly just shifted to just running certain distances with walk intervals as needed. Amee--hang in there and don't get down. You are back at it and…
  • Thanks for the condolences. It is getting a little easier being back to my normal routine. I think a workout minute challenge sounds fun, and maybe easier to keep track of! As I posted in the other thread, I plan to try adding lunchtime walks to my routine this month.
  • Happy Friday! I ran 3.5 miles yesterday and plan to go horseback riding today (if work cooperates). If not, I will go for a walk. Also planning for a walk at lunch--I have been having a hard time making lunchtime walks a habit, so that might be my goal for May.
  • Hi all! Glad to hear that everyone is still doing well. My eating was seriously derailed while I was out of town (we had amazing amounts of food from friends and relatives), but I did go for two runs while I was there. Also got in a riding lesson yesterday, which felt amazing. Was feeling down and thought about canceling;…
  • Sorry I've been mia. Death in the family so out of town. Ate like crap but proud that I ran twice anyway. Just wanted to say I'm on if there is a May challenge!
