I was obese for both my pregnancies (about 5 lbs lighter for the second), but controlling the weight gain makes a huge difference in how you feel and how quickly you recover. The first time around I gained about 35 lbs; started out ok but then just gave up mid-way through. Was miserable by the time I delivered and my…

Oh, I think I love y'all. I always get shouted down when I say that. Ick.

Um, no, it doesn't. But then I'm silly and believe things on the CDC website. "Does pasteurization change milk’s nutritional benefits? No. Many studies have shown that pasteurization does not significantly change the nutritional value of milk and dairy products. All of the nutritional benefits of drinking milk are…

Definitely think you'll be smaller than a 10 at 150. I'm 5'7", 170 and wear a 10. I'm pretty pear-shaped, too.

Wow that is a big change! Funny how our minds don't recognize it sometimes. Thanks for sharing, and good luck!

If you are interested, the book The Beck Diet Solution was very helpful to me. Don't worry, it isn't some fad diet--she is a behavioral psychologist that helps you change your relationship to food. I have been overweight to obese most of my adult life and have/had a very unhealthy relationship with food. I have found her…

Thanks--even though I "know" this, it is helpful to read it when the scale is not being kind to me, like the last couple of days. I also found the asymmetrical part very interesting, as I think I have experienced that.

I always find it helpful to imagine what it must be like being that person--angry all the time. Instead of feeling attacked, and like the anger is directed at me, it makes me stop and realize that the anger is within the other person. It would be awful to be angry all the time, and that sympathy helps me to overlook…

"If you're too busy to workout...then your priorities need to change." (I need this one a lot). "The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach." "you are entirely up to you. Make your body. Make your life. Make yourself." "Allow yourself to be a beginner. No one…

That sounds fun! I once did pole bending with my walking horse mare. Enjoyed it but it kind of freaked her out. I am trying to motivate myself through the holidays with the thought that my horse deserves for me to be lighter. I gained five pounds since before Thanksgiving--argh.

I struggled with this, too, until I read the Beck Diet Solution (which isn't really a diet). The author's take was: yes, it is unfair that you have to track while other people don't and are naturally slim. But being upset about how unfair it is won't make you lose weight. You have to live with what is. I've finally…

If it makes you feel any better, I have even had doctors question whether I am really allergic to cranberries. I haven't been allergy tested, but multiple episodes of my lips, tongue and throat swelling and getting hives is pretty good evidence, I think.

Ok, I'm not the best at uploading pics, but I will try for a fellow horse-person. I'm 5'7" (ish); starting weight was 230, not at goal yet, but have lost 65 (ish) lbs. Before (2010): Now: Stick with it--you can do it. It has taken me many tries and fails to get this far, and I'm not done yet (goal is about 12-13 lbs from…

Ok, I am belatedly in. Thanks again, Dave, for doing this and for the gentle nudges. And btw, your avatar is hysterical. 50 miles this month. This is only one of two fitness resolutions (out of 6 total) that I did not accomplish for the year, and by damm, I'm gonna do it. 12/1: 1.2 mi walk 12/3: 1.21 mi walk 12/4: 1.14 mi…

Ok I bolded the two parts that stuck out to me. If you run over something in the road and have a flat tire, do you get out of the car and stick a knife in the other three because it is pointless? Yes, it is a ridiculous comparison, but so is the thought that you made a mistake, so let's give up and continue to eat poorly.…

I agree that the portioned dining room food is easier than buffet. And running on a treadmill on a moving ship is hard. That's all I got. As you said, OP, it's only 7 days--have fun, don't stuff yourself, accept that you will likely see a water weight gain on return, don't let that discourage you. Oh, and I am soo jealous!

This. Plus you are more prone to injury if you overdo. I'm impressed that you want to do more than 3x per week; I'm still sore from Wednesday! Edited to add: If you feel that it is too easy, add more weight in the class. I try to always add enough that I am struggling to finish the reps. (And don't be afraid to skip a rep…

You don't have to buy the pre-packaged meals. Beware the "free" fruits, I think that sabotaged me on the new plan. I also find that the database on MFP is much more comprehensive and accurate, which is the other reason I was failing at the new plan. There is not much wiggle room for "guesstimation", I eat out quite a bit,…

Brine or marinade, definitely helps with flavor and juiciness.

+ 1 for starting with a basic neutral shoe. Once you have a wear pattern, you can go online and figure out if you need something else. I love, love, love my Brooks. Ghost and I think Glycerin are their neutral models.

I opened this thread intending to be the peacemaker, stating that I love all types of pizza (thin crust, NY style, Chicago style, crap from the freezer), and you go and ruin it with pineapple. I mean seriously, why don't you just put some anchovies on there, too? :'(

Hmm, ticker didn't post right. Trying again.

11/12: 1.17 11/5: 1.16 11/4: 1.18 So while I went on vacation, I forgot to track. And I haven't yet motivated myself to restart running, and the month is almost over. :( Picking myself up, dusting off, moving on...

I had always wanted to learn to jump (on horseback). I took some lessons in college, then drifted away from it after. Eventually got out of horses all together, and felt too fat to ride, never mind put on tight spandex breeches and hang out with pre-teens (which make up the bulk of hunter-jumper riders). Sooo, after losing…
