I have myself racked up as sedentary, so anything that is beyond doing deskwork I log... Such as walking, gardening, carpentry etc... But this is a personal thing, so I can track for my own benefit. If other people think it is lame then they can unfriend me. That aside I do some good cardio burns most days 800 to 1600…

As method C25K is great... But this does not solve the biggest problem... Why are you running? When your body is aching and heart pounding, how are you going to answer the question, WHY?

For me I'm just a big show off and don't like the taste of humble pie. So I commit myself to challenges and then tell lots of people. My current challenges are: 1) Brighton Marathon 2) Triathlon 3) Cycle 10,000 km in 2012, including a 100, 200, 300, 400 & 600 km cycles 4) Cycle up & down Mt. Snowdon I have found the…

In 1977 Star Wars was amazing (I was 7)! I was hooked and it just kept getting better :-) That aside, the recent Star Trek movie was a great prequel (story line). The special effects were excellent too. But Star Wars will always have that little 7 year olds heart ;-)

^^^^^ that sounds like a good idea ^^^^^^

^^^^^^^ Dr Mekon ^^^^^^ has been my biggest encourager... he 'forced' me from cycling 10-15 miles to doing a 120 miles with a 2000m ascent in-a-day. The longest I had done before this was 60 miles, and I was fine. My butt was saw at the end, but I was back in the saddle the next day. I was doing around 15-25 miles a day in…

Hey Jeff, That's a great question. No sure how to answer really. Reason for weight loss / gain can be many. There too many factors to give you a clear answer. Like loads of people have said you learn to do things more efficiently, which means you burn less calories in doing routine activities. Additionally if you have lost…

I missed 40 already ... but like you would like to run a marathon... I have been reading the book "The Non-Runners Marathon Trainer" see on amazon: http://amzn.to/xYFjIC I have never really run in my life. I started last October and ran 13 miles and then tried again in December but suffered a calf sprain. A friend of mine…

Houmous is one of the best sandwich fillers, or dips around :-) It is best if homemade and fresh add a little lemon on top with olives or sweet peppers or chill peppers or or or .... yum!

^^^^^. This is my philosophy ^^^^^ I want to go for distance rather than pace. My goal is continuous uninterrupted running as I have signed up for a Marathon in April 2012.. Can do around 1.5 miles without stopping, then I need to stop for 30 seconds and start again. My furthest distance doing this is 4.5 miles. My pace is…

He's right 2 days is nothing ... go for it! Nothing to lose everything to gain :-)

Good post Angie :-) I use sea salt that has a variety of minerals in it and it tastes better than table salt. I also use electrolyte replacement tablets when I do endurance rides as I lose a lot of salt when I do workouts and actually need to replace the minerals I have lost thru' sweating. Sodium is not bad in itself,…

Just starting off (cyclist at heart) my usual route is 4.5 miles and I do it in 43 mins which works out about 6.3 mph or 9:30 min/mile...

Your BMR will depend on a lot of stuff... and it will vary on a daily, monthly and seasonal basis. It will depend on genetic factors, VO2 levels, dietary habits and exercise patterns. You would need a proper exam in a laboratory to workout your actual BMR. This site just gives you a good guess ... you may need to adjust…

This ^^^^ hits the nail on the head! You are programmed as an being to respond to your environment and behaviour... this programming is done in a variety of ways but a large factor is your endocrine system (hormones). If you do little exercise and eat little energy rich food (calories), your endocrine system will respond…

I run because I want to do a triathlon ... I love cycling and swimming, but running is starting to grow on me :-)

I have been loosing around 1 to 1.5 lbs a week and have not experienced any significant sagging skin... I think this in the main due to the fact that I do a lot of cardio, and try to eat the calories I have burned. Of course our skin looses it elesticity, this is true for all people not just those who have been overweight.

you can add me if you want support :-)

I am not impressed that the vegetarian diet rates are #9! First of all you cannot group all vegetarians into one diet! As there are so many kinds of vegetarian diet ... It is like saying the American or British diet is #....

Let's demystify what metabolism is... so as to understand what our bodies are doing. Metabolism is the breaking down and the making of cells. Our body is always working metabolically. The speed at which your metabolism works is called your basal metabolic rate. MFP has a tool that calculates your BMR and this will depend…
