body fat percentage. BMI can be skewed based on height and muscle mass. BF% is more accurate. IMO.

hi there. i'm a mom of two (ages 4 and 2). I've lost about 40lbs. always looking for other moms out there who can relate and support. im very active. i run, do kettlebells, crossfit, biking, boot camps.

I do kettlebells, its sort of heavy lifting (definitely strength training) at times depending on the routine. My appetite increased almost immediately and now I notice a significant increase in my appetite following a decent kettlebell workout (the same day and the day after). Definitely more so than after a regular cardio…

wow! I gotta find one of those near my house! That's fantastic :)

I love kettlebells for the strength training and cardio. but yes, definitely get good training :) have fun!
-
I definitely suggest proper training before use :) You will get a better workout if your form is correct and you won't injure yourself.
-
exactly :) was also going to say on low cardio kettlebell routines the HRM will show a lower than actual burn as well since it can't take into account weight resistance. I got interrupted by the kids :) i always play it safe and try to only eat back what the HRM says I burned. unless i'm still hungry that is!
-
I used circuit training as well until I got a HRM (heart rate monitor). Just to let you know, the burn my HRM showed was much lower than MFP circuit training.
-
LOTS of stretching a foam roller helped me so much with shin splints and knee pain. just take the time to really stretch and roll those muscles out! especially the IT Band.
-
oh and for jillian michaels workouts I'd say the HRM would give you a better idea of calorie burn if that's what you want to know. the fit bit will show an increase in activity at that time but again it won't pick up on the increased heart rate (which you will definitely have with her workouts) :)
-
i have both (fitbit one and Polar FT4). I use the HRM during planned exercise to record accurate calorie burns. it does well for cardio workouts, underestimates for kettlebells/weight lifting or strength training. the fit bit i wear all day, including during workouts to determine daily calorie burn through normal activity.…

A vet, then a marine biologist. Was a marine biologist after grad school for a while. now i'm taking time off to be a stay at home mom, photographer, and I sew clothes for babies and toddlers. Still hope to get back to marine biology/ecology when the kids are older :)
-
My at home elliptical's counter over estimated calorie burn significantly. Once I got a heart rate monitor (Polar FT4) it showed almost half the calorie burn as the counter did. I recommend a HRM for accurate numbers.

Mine did that once but it was because there was a small drop of water inside the "snap" connectors from when I had wet the strap. Once I made sure it was dry it worked fine.
