I did not know about "The Joy of X"; it has outstanding reviews. I would most definitely like to read this book in the future, but I would like to cast my November vote for The Shallows.

I am exactly the same. This is my suggestion: The Shallows by Nicholas Carr: http://www.amazon.ca/The-Shallows-Nicholas-Carr/dp/0393072223 It was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction.

Absolutely. Bump.

There are many articles such as these with gender biased claims that have little basis in reality. Perhaps pull-ups are statistically not part of the exercise regimen for the average* female? Pull-ups require a remarkable amount of core and back strength, demanding time and dedication to perfect. While at the moment I…

I just got a trainer and she has me doing 3 variations of squats (with and without weights). So, in one training session, I am doing about 100 squats...

I believe it has to do with triggering the reward centres of the brain, similar to those triggered when gambling.

There have been many reputable studies that indicate that physical activity can alleviate some of the unpleasant symptoms that accompany menstruation. Personally, I find yoga, cycling, elliptical, walking, and strength training helpful. On a few occasions, the impact from running has caused pain in my lower abdominal…

Agreed. When I was anorexic many commented on how amazing I looked. No one ever commented on my massive hair loss, weakness, or pallor.

I believe her premise was an individual judging her to be an unfit role model based on her body weight, and little other information. He did concede that he had not watched this morning show on any previous occasion. He did make a valid observation: she is obese. However, it is my observation that when another individual…

Definitely true.

I do agree with many points above. Everything you ingest is a choice; however, to say that there are not legitimate environmental, psychological, and/or biochemical factors that contribute to an individuals physiological state is naive. Additionally, many are missing the point of the message: every individual has worth,…

I see that you received a BA in English. Unfortunately, you may have a difficult time finding a position you enjoy. I have colleagues and friends with an MSc or PhD (or both) in Chemistry or Physics who could not find a position for a year. It is a difficult job market, and the fact that you found paid work within three…

I recently went and had my body fat % calculated professionally (via ultrasound, error 1%). The BF% value I obtained from online calculators was about 10-12% LESS than the actual value. If you can afford it, I suggest having your BF% calculated professionally.

Exactly.

Just finished "Letters to a Young Contrarian" (Christopher Hitchens); I am in the middle of "Arguably" (Christopher Hitchens); just began "Mortality (Christopher Hitchens). I also have many books on the go, where I pick them up at random and read a few chapters before getting distracted by another book (this is a terrible…

That post was referring to the post of the nasty little *kitten* who posted the laughing face.

Absolutely. I was told by a plastic surgeon that toning over an appreciable period of time may make surgery unnecessary.

This sort of thing became commonplace among those who have undergone excessive weight loss which, unfortunately, is accompanied by lean muscle mass loss. If you focus on extensive*** toning to rebuild the abdominal muscles, you will undoubtedly see improvement. If you are older than 30 yrs old, you are not likely to…
