  • Well, you do look pretty fit. Keep up the great work. I sometimes have a hard time responding positively to something my wife says too. I'm not sure why. Probably it has something to do with growing up without much verbal affirmation myself. It has to be learned and I'm sure you can, with enough patience, teach your…
  • I've noticed my moods have evened out a lot on fewer carbs. If I do feel discouraged then exercise is the quickest way out. Not always easy to do but it does usually work.
  • I don't plan to count or log food forever but I do think it makes sense to check yourself occasionally to make sure you are estimating fairly closely. Of course if it helps motivate you and you think it's fun, why not? As long as it doesn't become a demotivating chore.
  • Good for you. If you can make it through 50 minutes of Zumba I don't think you'll have too much trouble running 3 miles. Just carry a quick energy carb snack with you and use it only if you need it. Good luck!
  • Can you point me in a direction toward determining what this amount might be? Or just telling me a number would work well too. I just figured out how to modify my goals to 10% carb, 45% protein and 45% fat. Less protein than that? (Those are gross carbs. Net carbs would be more like 7%.) Thanks!
  • Thanks for that! :flowerforyou:
  • Thanks for the good information. That all sounds pretty reasonable to me. In the FWIW (for what it's worth) department, the ketone test strips have been working well for me over the past week. They appear to correlate well with what I would expect from my daily net carb intake. In only about a week I've found out that I…
  • I've done low carb before but thought it was dangerous in the long run. Now I'm convinced it's not. Gary Taubes and Peter Attia are why I'm here.
  • There is no shame in falling down. We've all done that. The rookie mistake is in not getting back up as soon as you can. Having said that, it's much easier to stay on the wagon than to pick yourself up and get back on. When it's all working for you, you should not feel cravings or deprivation in your body. You might feel…
  • I tried the savory version today and also used half almond meal/flour and half flax meal. (The almond flour adds 1.5 net carbs to each serving.) It was great with eggs and sausage. My wife added a quarter cup of shredded cheddar cheese and a little cream to hers, and it was much more moist. You can definitely play around…
  • Sure. You've lost 86 lbs. You can do whatever you want. Well done! Actually the answer depends on who you ask. Some folks are purists and say you can only count water. Pure distilled water presumably. If you want to read some of their opinions, you can Search for 'Water Consumption' on Message Boards. But I would…
  • Tried my first one this morning and would have turned my nose up at it back in June when I was addicted to carbs. But it wasn't bad, along with plenty of coffee and cream cheese. I like the idea of just making one fresh and not having a whole plate of them to tempt me later. Although they're really not all that tempting…
  • Point well taken about the unreliability of the pee stix but I still think they're better than nothing if one is still learning and has $6. I will definitely take your cautionary observations into account and not get too obsessed over the individual readings. Thanks for your feedback.
  • I tried WW online and, when that didn't work, believed the hype that people who attend meetings have more success. I knew it was a mistake the moment I walked in the door and saw all the tempting WW snack food for sale. But I gave it a try, lost some weight and promptly gained it all back when I finally quit. Now I look…
  • I'm also trying to figure out a happy place for my body's ability to consume some carbs while still losing weight. I didn't see anyone suggest testing for ketones with test strips but that's what I'm doing so I can experiment with different amounts of carbs and then see what the results are on the test strips. Wal-Mart has…
  • Thank you for the warm welcome and great advice! I've done low-carbing and some light fasting before but have never stayed with it because I bought into the advice that it was dangerous. I understand more about it now and something has clicked for me so I'm sticking with it this time. Real Name: Ed Height: 6' 1/2" HW: 295…
