  • I'd say you'll see toning from the yoga...but an at home weights session wouldn't do any harm if you can fit it in! I do 2 running sessions, a yoga and a weights session and it's working for me! Try looking at runner's weights sessions online, there's a bunch free here: http://www.womensrunninguk.co.uk/workouts.obyx I love…
  • Well I'm 5'11 and my goal weight is 170, currently at 180 so not too much to lose I guess. My BMI is 25 at the moment which bums me out so I just want to get into the normal weight bit. What makes it abit more complicated is that I'm a runner...so losing muscle mass is highly undesirable!! Gotta keep the speed up! lol!…
  • Hello there! I've ran a couple of 5ks now....first time I just trained on a treadmill and didn't really follow a plan. Did it in 40mins! If you follow a couch to 5k plan you'll do much better :) It's not a long race and generally the atmosphere is jovial and relaxed. Raising money for a good cause is good motivation and…
  • well I've run with the same friend twice at half marathon distance. First time, we stuck together because we were raising money together so needed the good shots for the papers etc... I had a very emotionally hard race and ended up slowing down quite a bit which really frustrated him. I was just happy to finish and he was…
  • I got my first pair of running shoes for £20 in sports direct but I didn't have ankle problems. Other than that, have your gait analysed so you know what kind of shoe you need then try wiggle or sweatshop online sales to try and find a good pair for cheap :)
  • I ran my first half in them and I still love them! Even though I can't run in them anymore... I'm a neutral runner so I can wear most shoes without issue and I'd always recommend you try them out in a proper running shop. That way the assistants can tell you if they are right for your gait :)
  • Well I consider myself a runner and I always look about 2 metres infront of me. Especially if you're going up a long hill, you don't want to focus too much on the distance :P I find that it's kinda natural since that distance keeps my neck neutral while I'm leaning slightly forward to run (helping with forward motion and…
  • Hello! Well done on the 5k! I remember my first 5k fondly...it was hard but awesome :) I've recently done a half-marathon and I guess I need inspiration about what to challenge myself to next (one of the many reasons I trawl these boards :P) What are you planning next?
  • I never stretch before a run (like many of the others here!), I start at a slower pace then gradually speed up. I always stretch after though! Quads, calves, hamstrings and glutes for at least 30 secs. If I've done an interval run or run for more than an hour, I do my arms and chest too (again for at least 30 secs). I…
