i don't have kids, but one of my best friends has five! she's a terrific mom. one of her motivations for staying healthy during pregnancy is the baby. everything you put into your system, the baby gets too, so she is very careful to eat vitamin-rich foods, whole grains, and as few chemicals as possible. this means eating…

put it in your exercise! that's awesome. built in burning :) welcome, by the way. this is a great site. i love the food journal; it keeps me honest!

Wow. That's so tough. I'm sorry. I try (sometimes successfully) to do things for myself that don't involve eating, but are also treats. I am in law school, and we're in exams, but once in a while I tell the books they can wait and I curl up in bed and watch a movie. Or take a super long shower. Or buy a $1 nail polish in a…

I agree: little steps. Start with simple, broad rules that don't cause you to alter things too much, like "I will not drink my calories" leading to a ban on soda, juice, and any other drink but water. Or "I won't eat something if it's fried; I'll get the grilled or broiled option." These steps are small, but they build the…

I just started this program, but when I helped my Mom lose a lot of weight a few years ago, two of the big rewards were between us and her closet. 1) weeding out large clothes and giving them to charity. Good luck! I think this site is terrific.

Welcome, Sarah! This site may not make losing easy, but it certainly makes it easier, and the calorie counter is a big help because you start to know how much everything you eat "costs". Then you can make judgment calls about what's worth eating. Good luck!

I know two remedies for ruinous weekends. 1) plan what you'll eat ahead of time, including some treats for yourself, and then stick to that roadmap or, 2) eat a little under your calories during the week so you can go a little bit over your calories on the weekend. There's not a lot of room for eat half your calories…

oatmeal, yogurt, ice cream - anything that can be swallowed without chewing and with minimum contact with your teeth!

eat them for at least two reasons 1. your metabolism will adjust to a lower calorie intake by slowing down and storing more of what you eat as fat, because it thinks you are starving 2. it's a good discipline to eat a healthy amount of calories whether you want more or less.

i'm in law school, so i feel your pain. i also have an insatiable appetite, so instead of having willpower, i have to trick myself. here are a couple things that worked well for me and might work for you: 1. give yourself one day off a week. i know it sounds crazy, but i got the idea from the Body For Life program (which…

Your accomplishments are wonderful, and you should be proud! But on the other hand, you refer to your loved ones - they are a testament to the fact that you are more than a number on a scale or an image in a mirror. They are probably very proud of you, but to them, your weight loss is only one facet of who you are, and…
