  • Usually you have carb limits you try to stay under, and protein targets you try to hit close but fat is not a "goal". Its just what is left when you hit your carb/protein target. Dont "try" to hit your fat goal.... Use it just to round out your calories and keep you satisfied.
  • I scour thrift stores for all the good brands I would never pay for, and get some really cool things I never would have thought to look for at a real store. Also lets me cheaply "try out" different styles and brands. When I really like one, I look them up online and if I can find them I buy more - willing to pay if I…
  • This. But I set the alarm 30 min before I need to get up, take the caffeine pill and go back to bed. The second (real) alarm goes off 30 min later and its MUCH easier to get up then :)
  • He gave me some tips, and some cautions. 1) You dont want to lose your restriction - which is possible if you start really increasing volume of food. Even if your body is able to burn more calories, life happens and there will come a time you may have to take a break from exercise. If you are used to eating a larger volume…
  • For me the key to keeping it off is muscle. Lots of muscle. THe more muscle you have, the more you can eat without gaining. Seriously impressive. I got to 145 pounds after surgery and plateau'd for a long time. Then went through a depression time. I ate about 1400 calories a day (i am a simple person - 7x 200 calorie…
  • Yep - 5'5, 135 pounds, size 6... can eat 2500 regularly and maintain... at 45 years old. MUSCLE is the key to a happy life eating :)
  • Low vitamin D can lead to low testosterone, which even in women is bad for energy and hormones (i.e. period issues, achy muscles, exhaustion, etc). Get your vitamin D in order and start lifting weights (boosts testosterone more than cardio) - even if its just lifting a water jug to start with. You can do it sitting down.…
  • "Also I hate when people comment on my looks at all unless it's for a productive reason lol I dont want to be called pretty unless it's from my boyfriend... makes me uncomfortable. but I dont mind if someone says I gained weight." saying you gained weight IS commenting on your looks :)
  • You live in your body. You get in and out of the wheelchair multiple times a day. You put clothes on and off. You go to the bathroom and have to wipe. You notice your body. You pay more attention to your own body than I guarantee anyone else on the planet ever would. I can honestly say that someone sitting in a wheelchair…
  • THe conventional advice for hypos is to eat more often and consistently, along with never eating carbs alone. But I did read about another approach that has worked well for me. I cant vouch for the science or explanation so much, but it might be worth a try. I believe it is only for reactive hypo (after meals). The concept…
  • Ummm. no one can gain 100 pounds without noticing, unless they were grossly overweight to start with. At some point you had to buy new pants unless you wear the worlds stretchiest yoga pants! You want everyone else to be honest with you but you are seriously lying to yourself if you think you didnt notice you were gaining…
  • You arent going to "lose it all" in the last 8 weeks. Think about the extra weight you are carrying - you are your own weight machine - carrying around an extra 15-30 pounds already, and every week the weight will increase automatically. Thats enough weight bearing exercise for now. You will maintain some muscle just by…
  • Well, my thought is - are you satisfied with your body now? no? so... would you rather be fat and unsatisfied or thin and unsatisfied with your body (and healthier)? The benefits of losing weight are more than body satisfaction, so you have to decide if those benefits are worth the effort. One of the most inspiring (to me)…
  • But also, look into making low carb tortilla pizzas... kids love, they taste awesome, and if you have the kid help make his own he is likely to enjoy (kids always eat more if they participate in making it!) plus you can each have different toppings without any extra effort. Simple "recipe" : 1) Preheat oven (I use toaster…
  • Just because you freeze it doesnt mean you have to eat it that week... Make the meal, freeze the leftovers in single serving sizes. Make the next meal, freeze the leftovers. Make the next meal, freeze the leftovers. Do that for a week or two, then you have a large variety of choices and only have to make the number of…
  • I also think some people (especially here on MFP) object to cutting out more than is necessary. I.e. cutting out all carbs "cures" you when cutting out only gluten would have as well. You are restricting your choices more than needed because you simply dont know what is actually causing the issues. So going vegan if you…
  • I think people are upset because "confirmed diagnosis" diseases are not usually "cured" by this type of thing. But I also know that most of the diseases in this category are either difficult to accurately diagnose, are diagnosed by eliminating other diseases or causes, or doctors "give up" and say it is "likely" they have…
  • Yes, but if you immediately take a walk it tends to stay away for me. When I say immediate, I mean you get your portion of food out that you SHOULD eat (no eating until you are "full"), and as the last bite is in your mouth you stand up, put your dishes in the sink or whatever and walk out the door. Preferably with company…
  • Egg whites make awesome pancakes if you beat them to stiffness and then add in flavor. Just dont be expecting true old style pancake flavor.
  • Google cream cheese or ricotta cheese pancakes! You can also use protein powder and stiff egg whites to make HUGE pancakes. Lots of other options out there to play with :)
  • As much as I possibly can.... :) Used to drink 6-12 cans diet code red mtn dew a day. Found it much cheaper to take caffeine pills. It doesnt do anything but make me human and awake. Otherwise I nod off constantly all day and feel like I am walking through jello. No workout if no caffeine. Then again, I might just need a…
  • My take is that I have had wrinkles forever, its just that before I lost weight they were filled in with fat :) So I will take "empty" wrinkles over "full" wrinkles anyday. And it does tighten up over time - keep putting some kind of mosturizer on there and stay out of the sun.
  • I am reminded of all the posts around here where people say they don't want to go out in public to exercise while fat because of the comments of rude people... I.e. drivers passing them jogging on the side and yelling insults and fat jokes out the window at them. Everyone's reply tends toward "ignore them - you can lose…
  • So much this. I get up between 3 and 4 most days. If I start eating, I can easily eat my days allotment before noon, and I am always so surprised because I dont feel like I have eaten much - just grazing. So I learned to postpone eating as long as possible in the morning. If I can make it til at least 7 or 8, it will be a…
  • This is interesting and I am eager to hear what you find out. If you need a "cold place" even in summer, make friends with your local gas station attendent and ask if you can walk in their freezer for a few minutes a day and just stand there (in full sight). Or go to your local Costco or grocery store with a walk in type…

  • Exactly. "Everybody on the sidewalk" might actually really have a gun. If they are responsible and doing it right, you shouldnt even know that to be the case. You have no idea how many responsible CC gun owners you meet every day - not just on the sidewalk but in your place of business, when shopping, visiting your aunt at…
  • Another vote for the Can-can Concealment hip hugger or sport version (velcro). It not only holds your gun, but your phone, ID and keys, knife, whatever you want. And that sucker doesnt move once you get it right - run as much as you want. It works great under jeans, sweat pants etc as well. What is really cool is that they…
  • Ricotta cheese... add some sweetener of choice and it tastes like cheesecake :) Can be used to make smoothies too (in place of protein powder).
  • You can also add a small amount of guar gum or xanthum gum. One makes them thicker the other smoother, and in various combinations really make it like a "milkshake" should be :) can read more here; https://www.bobsredmill.com/blog/recipes/guar-gum-vs-xanthan-gum/
  • My mother had a double lung transplant last year after being on O2 for over a year. I am sooooooooooo tired of taking her through the hospital entrance doors both before and after the transplant and having to walk through the "wall of smoke" from the smokers sitting outside the doors (despite some sign saying the policy is…
