  • Heavens, yes -- as long as you are actually trying to dance and not just moving your arms to get bogus credit for moving the remote the right way. My kids always beat me, but I swear I get a better workout. I easily could burn 100 calories per 15 minutes depending on the songs I chose.
  • Thank you for the clarification, Chrisb75. I think the F2F philosophy makes total sense. I'm definitely not afraid to eat more, and if I had it to do over again, I would start off with that method because it's way better to eat and lose the healthy way than not eat and lose in an unhealthy way. Had I done that from the…
  • My husband did it with me. Made me feel better that he was in better shape than me and was still pouring sweat during it.
  • My HRM said I burned between 220 and 250 calories in the 27 minutes from warmup to cooldown. I'm 5'3" and started at 154lbs. From what I've read on other threads, that's pretty typical of the burn.
  • Keep a small stash of Godiva (or other good quality expensive brand) on hand for cravings. One truffle is about 50 calories. Sometimes just knowing it's there is enough to satisfy the craving without actually indulging. But if you're going to indulge, it may as well be on something worthwhile! :-)
  • Not just hard work but it gets boring otherwise. I wish I had started out alternating the days. And don't be surprised if about 6 days into level 1 you want to throw a brick at Jillan. For some reason the other phases didn't bother me but I came to hate her chattiness and cues towards the end of phase 1. That's what…
  • These numbers are similar to mine. I have understood this whole thing in theory but when it comes to figuring my actual numbers it always broke down because I didn't fully understand that the fat 2 fit column already included a deficit. Don't know how many times I've read that it does and it just didn't connect. So this…
  • My advice starting out if you've done nothing like it before-- 3 lb. I used 2 lb to start with because that was all I had and that was tough on some of the moves. Used 3 to 5lb by the time I got to Phase 3. My husband used 5-8lb weights and did not find it easy in the least and he wasn't a wimp when he started. Edit --…
  • One note about the EatSmart scale is that it is most accurate on a hard level surface, and if you move it you need to recalibrate it. So, it wouldn't hurt to try that to see if you get different results.
  • I've always weighed more at the doctor than first thing in the morning at home. What kind of scale do you have? I have this scale and it's accurate -- as in I step on, then step off, then step on again holding some hand weights and it displays the correct weight. Even stepped on it holding a big box to ship and the box…
  • I started at 173 and effectively lost maybe 1-1.5 lbs in the first 2 weeks. But it was pretty up and down in those two weeks that I think it was really water weight. It really wasn't until week 4 that I started noticing a true downward trend.
  • How is BFBM different from 30DS?
  • My boss made a homemade blueberry pie about 10 years ago, and I ate the lionshare of it to the dismay of my co-workers. My justification? Blueberries have lots of antioxidants. I'm pretty sure I could still take down a whole one of those pies. I make one every summer now and it's all I can do not to go back for piece after…
  • Wow, I bet your tastes have gotten more sophisticated since then. I know since starting this calorie control thing in August, I'm WAY pickier about what I binge on and the LIttle Debbies just don't cut it anymore!
  • Yeah, I cussed at her about day 6 into level 1 during the side lunge move. After that I had to go to the music-only option. Strangely I didn't have a problem with her chattiness during levels 2 or 3. Recently went back to level 1 after a 4-day break from exercising and once again wanted to throw my dumbbell at her.
  • Psulemon said: Ok, that does makes some sense because, you're right, it does only burn about 220 calories each time. I just wasn't sure if I should be going by number of times exercising, intensity level, or what. After chewing on this some yesterday, I've come to the conclusion that I screwed myself up by not eating my…
  • Can you please explain the reasoning behind this? Lightly active is described as exercising 1-3x a week, but I exercise 5-6x a week. I think if I understood the why behind it, the math would make more sense to me. It just seems to me that 27 minutes of 30DS is a lot harder than taking a 27 minute stroll around the mall,…
  • These Activity Multipliers have been dogging me all day. I completely understand it in theory, but since not all exercise is created equal, what feels intense to me might actually qualify as moderate on a scale like this. How do we know which one to really choose? For example, I've been doing 30DS regularly, burn…
  • I'm in the same boat -- well a bit....it's been a month for me after 6 months on 1500 calories. I had been losing about 3 pounds a month on average until then. I've been eating more calories for the last couple of weeks but no effect so far. Looking at another TDEE calculator…
  • Trying to break my own plateau here.... and looking at this calculator linked on a recent page: http://www.health-calc.com/diet/energy-expenditure-advanced I think trying to honestly answer the activity factor part of these calculators is the hardest part for me because I know there are people out there who exercise way…
  • This was an excellent article. Thank you for sharing. I think the clue to my own plateau lies in here somewhere. Gotta figure out exactly where.
  • What podcast did you hear this on? Always interested in new podcasts to try.
  • This is really great to know! I think I'll do that for the remainder of my 30DS days. Plus I really miss doing Just Dance and Zumba Wii....
  • YES! I was significantly hungrier by day 3 or 4 of level 1. Holy smoke. Go ahead and eat an extra couple hundred calories worth of something. It won't last much longer.
  • I just finished level 2 a couple of days ago and had no problem with my shins at all. BUT I did do the modification moves following Anita for the most part. I didn't try to do Natalie's version until closer to the end when my arms were strong enough to support me during the plank jacks and plank squats. Maybe you need to…
  • Perfect! This breakdown is exactly what I've been hunting for in past P90X topics. I'm currently doing 30DS and am planning to try P90X when I'm finished.
  • Thanks for the comparison. I just moved to level 3 of 30DS and am considering P90X next but was wondering if I should try Power 90 instead. Sounds like it would be a waste of money.
  • I find Ruby Tuesday to be one of the easier chain restaurants to eat at because they have a fairly good selection of smaller portion meals with the calorie count on them and also healthy (and tasty) fish/chicken meals. Also love their veggie selections -- grilled zucchini is my favorite. The problem is their prices are so…
  • I have a Polar FT7 and even if it's off by 10% or so (likely over than under), I don't think it would be enough to hinder weight loss. As long as you know that you can't hang your hat on it to the exact calorie, you'll be fine. However, I think it's fairly accurate. For example, the Leslie Sansone website (or one blog I…
