  • I have no idea if this woud be appropriate for you or not, but have you looked into Trigger Point massage therapy? I developed a really bad kink in my shoulder blade a year and a half ago very suddenly that made it difficult to stand up, move my head, lift my arms, etc. Pain radiated from that spot and my arm felt numb and…
  • During the Burn phase, I used 5, 8, 10, and 12 pound weights, and 3lb weights for Burn Intervals. The 5lb weights were mostly for triceps and the little shoulder muscles. I'm in Push now and am using 10, 12, 15, and 20 for the most part.
  • Does it matter when the protein is ingested with relation to the workout? I exercise at the end of the day after dinner. Should I make sure to get protein after working out or is it enough to eat it throughout the day?
  • Holy smoke, that single leg lunge was impossible for me from a balance standpoint in Push 2 last night. I had to do it without weights just to get the form right, but even still I couldn't stay in the lunge formation while pulling my other leg forward. I may have to come up with a modification for that one... I've noticed…
  • Very good to hear!
  • Ahhh, marketing. :laugh
  • Wow, this is SO good for me to hear and remember!
  • Yeah, I guess it's just an artificial way to make it fit a 30-day formula. I'll just start with Push on the day I would normally start a new week, then. Just wasn't sure if there was some hidden benefit to taking a few days off. But, frankly, given my history where "taking a little time off" turned into seven months off,…
  • I keep seeing people mentioning a CLX/TF hybrid. How is the Turbofire different from Burn Intervals and Burn it Off?
  • There is! In fact, I was thinking about going over today on my lunch hour to try theirs. I've not bought bread in several weeks, so since we don't eat it very often I was thinking a splurge on some good quality bread might be worthwhile, particularly for those nights when I'm short on calories. Toasted and spread with some…
  • I've noticed the times that I've gone from cardio to incorporating strength training, I've gotten super hungry in the early days of it. I think the important thing to ask yourself is are you legitimately hungry (my stomach growls and feels like it's turning itself inside out) or are you just thinking about eating perhaps…
  • I googled this yesterday and found several blog hits mentioning this same thing, so we're not alone. One comment I found that sounded helpful was to imagine a steel rod in your back so it couldn't bend at all so that you have to bend at your hips and really focus on pushing yourself up with your heels and glutes and make…
  • Maybe I should do them without weights (or with wimpy 3 lb-ers) until I know for sure I've got the form right. But that means that those back muscles won't really get worked at the same time. I suppose I could always pause the DVD and do a set of rows on their own! (I should change my username to "Overthinker".... )
  • I decreased the weight I was using for dead lift rows in Burn 2 last night, but I still felt the burn/fatigue in my lower back after 4-5 reps and not in my legs or upper back where the row is focusing. It's not like a skeletal pain, it's definitely muscle fatigue. The problem is that I get that fatigue long before I get it…
  • How are you doing with your measurements? I am 2 days into Burn Week 2 myself and back to logging in MFP and am trying to keep myself off the scale until day 30. I did about 6-7 weeks of P90X last spring and saw a little difference measurement-wise, but I definitely got stronger with a bit more muscle definition. Problem…
  • How do you know how short to tie that band? I can't find anything in the guidebook about what size to make it.
  • Thanks, all -- I think you're right....I think I went too heavy. I'm starting week 2 tonight and because I'm trying to shift my workout days so that my rest days fall differently, I'll be doing Burn 2 tonight. I think that was the one that introduced the dead lifts, so I'll be more vigilant!
  • I'm bumping this, also, because I'd really like to know. When I was doing P90X regularly recently, several people suggested it was a strenuous workout, but not all of them felt strenuous to me -- partly because some of the exercises I just couldn't do to the level that some people could, so they weren't a strain on me. My…
  • I've looked at the Beachbody site, but I don't see a lot of details. Is it like P90X where you have a different workout everyday? The thing I'm frustrated with P90X is that while I enjoy the individual workouts, I feel like a full hour on one set of muscles is overkill for me, and if I miss a day or two, I've missed entire…
  • I question the accuracy of some of the calorie counts in your diary. Unless that is some SUPER THICK bacon, 2 slices of bacon do not equal 270 calories. 6 slices of bacon would equal 270 calories. And a cup of pasta doesn't add up that high, either. So, double-check that you've selected the correct foods from the database…
  • Thanks for the feedback on Power 90. I didn't want to waste money on something that I wouldn't enjoy. I will give myself permission to do only half of the workouts on nights that have abnormal interruptions. Otherwise, I'll finish the P90X and then look into the Turbo Fire/Jam workouts or Chalean in July.
  • I did great for the first 5 weeks until little things started getting in the way that I swear to you did not come up once in the first 5 weeks -- illness, evening school events, business trips, and vacation. Now that I've had some time off from it, I'm trying to decide if I liked it well enough to get into it again for…
  • I measure where my waist goes in -- like if you wore high-waisted pants. I do this because I have a belted shirt and that's right where the belt sits. I also measure around my abdomen under my belly button since I carry weight there and want to see that go down. That part will likely decrease before my actual waist does.
  • You can either join the group "Eat More to Weigh Less" or search for YouTube videos under "eatmore2weighless". There are lots of sticky posts in the group explaining how/why it works, but I found the videos really informative, too, since reading can get overwhelming. Sometimes hearing it explained helps more.
  • Okeydoke -- 2100 calories (or more) it will be for the next several weeks -- even if I have to keep a few gummy bears on hand for those "not-as-hungry" days. It is amazing how tempting it is to eat a little less.
  • This same thing has crossed my mind and what I've concluded was that I had no idea just how high calorie my food choices were. It was the more than occasional fast food lunch with french fries and a soda, or sitting down with a bowl of chips every night in front of the TV and the handfuls of cookies I allowed myself on the…
  • Does the math even work out that eating 1700 a day will cause you to gain a true 2.5 kg in just 3 weeks? That's 5.5 lbs in 3 weeks. You'd have to overeat by an insane amount to gain that much is actual fat in just 3 weeks. So, thinking reasonably and critically, it has to be water weight, right? Re-read the sticky or watch…
  • Thank you for the help. I do the whole program -- well as much as I can do -- and I've recently decided to abandon the yoga and will work in some light Just Dance cardio with my kids instead. Some days are more strenuous than others, but I definitely don't get the calorie burn (according to my HRM) that they guesstimate in…
  • I was doing it everyday through phase 2 and then dropped back to 2 days/1 day cardio/2 days/1 day cardio/rest. I liked that MUCH better especially given how challenging phase 3 was. And in hindsight I think that was the smarter way to go. I may revisit the program when i finish P90x, and if I do, that's the schedule I'll…
  • I'm definitely not an expert but your numbers are similar to mine. From what I've read, the MFP suggestion is definitely too low and if I were recommending this site to anyone else, the first thing I would tell them is to use numbers from somewhere else. I was examining the F2F numbers pretty closely last week and found…
