Be careful running too much too fast. Beware the Terrible Toos: too much, too fast, too soon. 4 weeks is a fairly short lead up for nothing to a 5k. Obviously you're in good cardiovascular shape, or you couldn't have just jumped in at that distance, but you're prone to injury if you push yourself too hard too fast.…

4.4 today, 90.8 MTD. Going to be cutting it close on the monthly goal. ITHINK I'll make it.

Mea culpa, but a picture would help

Obviously you've never seen really good walkers. The world class speed walkers can do 6 or 7 minute miles just walking. That's faster than my running pace and I'm considered an average runner with an 8 minute mile pace. I definetely finish in the top third of most races I do. Most people can't walk that fast of course, any…

I second the running store. They're usually just as knowledgable about walking as running. Gait and fit analysis is helpful for any shoe you're going to be putting a lot of mileage on.

You probably have plantar fasciitis, but I'm not a doctor and even if I was I couldn't do a firm diagnosis via the Internet. It's one of the more common reasons runners get heel pain. If that's what it is, you want arch supporting insoles, not heel supporting. It's counterintuitive, but it makes sense when you understand…

I'm not going to promise that everyone you meet will be nice, there's jerks in every crowd, but by and large runners will be some of the most supportive people you meet. Take it slow, and have fun. As other's have said, if you haven't done so already, look into getting fitted for shoes. They'll help prevent training…

4.2 miles tonight. Heat and humidity were back. Takes me to 59.5 on the month. Half a mile short of half way.

6.1 miles today, 55.3 MTD. Pretty evening for a run, the heat humidity broke and left great running weather.

If you have a newer smart phone, one that supports Bluetooth 4.0, you can look at one of the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) heart rate straps. I use a Wahoo Blue HR, but there are a few more coming on the market. The phones have GPS built in, of course, the trick has always been heart rate monitors. In the past you've been…

My BFP varies day to day by nearly 3% according to the bathroom scale. Those things are incredibly inaccurate and highly influenced by hydration levels and water retention. At best they're accurate to +/- 2% and I doubt you can even count on that.

I ran the Chief Maloney Memorial 5.8 miler that Millennium put together in literally two weeks this spring. I've been meaning to sign up for one of their other races. The Maloney Memorial was incredibly well organized and put together given the time frame, I'd love to see what they can do with a race they actually had time…

7 miles today. 46 total.

It's a good idea to start slow with running, even if you're in good cardio vascular shape. Running is kind of hard on joints, stabilizer muscles and connective tissue. It's a good idea to get all of those used to the impact over a period of time, even if your heart, lungs, and large muscle groups could handle more faster.…

Are the shoes wet? My running shoes squish after a particularly long or hot run (from sweat), or when I run in the rain. The shoes are noticeably wet wet when this happens, so the reason is pretty obvious. If the shoes aren't wet you may have burst a Gel pack or air pack or whatever your shoe uses for cushioning. That…

This is an impossible to answer question. In theory the answer to it would either be running or swimming, but to burn a lot with either activity you have to be good at them. You have to maintain a strong pace over a long distance. Since most people can't just up and run a few six to eight minute miles on day one, you cna't…

Yesterday was my off day. Did 4 miles today, 39 MTD. Long run tomorrow.

For pure metabolic burn, the only thing that compares to swimming is running. They both burn a ton of calories when done at a good pace. If you really like swimming, take up running for the winter and maybe try some cycling. Next season you can do a triathlon.

I've done the Run For Your Lives Zombie Infested 5K, and use the Zombies! Run app. So yeah, I think I might be will idling to pay for that

As other 's have said, symptom are part of the answer. Mostly I'll people to listen to their bodies, blah, blah... But if you have fever, don't work out. Period. Your risk of heat injury is just too great. Exercise heats the body, if your body's already overheated bad things can happen.

An eight mile run means beer goes from "empty calories" to "necessary fuel". I love distance running, I eat normally, have a drink or two most nights, and I'm still losing weight.
-
As much as I love the idea of a magic bullet for belly fat (it's pretty much where all the fat I have left is concentrated), it sounds like this was just the last place you lost weight. Most of us have an area where the body is particularly attached to the fat, and it's the last place we lose. You're just finally losing…

Everyone else finds this  The treadmill is a good tool and great for bad weather days. It's fine for occasional use, or if your only goal is to improve your fitness generally. That said, it does some of the work for you, and is always easier than doing the same distance on the road or a track. You can improve matters…
