Intervals! Sounds like that's what C25k is doing, but basically just alternate running and walking, one minute each or so. Do it for 20-30 minutes and that's all you have to do. Don't worry about mileage, speed, anything. Be happy and satisfied with where you start and that you've started. Breathe! Running is meditative…

when you puke at mile 7 and run the next 11 anyway, standing in the icy lake for half an hour after walking it off for a couple more.

I have heard conflicting opinions on this, but for ME, I really really need the recovery run the morning after a distance run. It supposedly gets the lactic acid to flush out of your muscles or something. I don't know, I just know it feels good for me. I ran a full 26.2 on Sunday, ran 3 (albeit very painful) recovery miles…

Rolled my first cigarette in '78 at 8 years old and started buying smokes regularly in 1982 at the age of 12. I was a pack a day by age 15. I quit Dec 30, 2011 (at 11:53 AM Pacific time), cold turkey and a supportive understanding family. When the craving hit, I breathed deeply, said an affirmation and waited for it to…

BMI is BS. I'm 5'5" and 153#. That puts me at a BMI of 25.5, which is considered overweight. I've always been stocky, my shoulders are 42 on a 5'5" frame.... However, last time I checked my body fat % I was at 15.3%. I'm aiming for 12%, but 15.3 is considered 'fitness' for me. I've been marathon training for months now and…

I prefer: YES!! I run when I can. I have two litle kids, a full time+ job, 3 hours in the car commuting each day, and a very active schedule in general. I'm taking a staycation in 2 weeks and i've blocked out every hour on my calendar.... So I go when I can. Sometimes that's in the morning after I drop the kids off…

I use my Amphipod w/ 2x 10.5oz bottles for 10 to 16 miles, and add my camelbak for longer (16+) training runs. I usually drop a Nuun in my amphipod when I carry the camelbak. Camelbak tightens down fine to not be annoying, i have the 50oz cycling one. Need to hydrate is time and distance related, but also environmental. I…

I quit cold turkey at 11:53AM on 12/30/2011. but who's counting... I've been smoking since I was 8 years old (I was 41 when I quit), and I'd quit multiple times before. Wellbutrin, the patch, gum, lozenges, etc. nothing took. Any type of 'aid' ended up being a crutch for me, and a constant reminder that what I really…
