  • I'll put my two cents in here and realize that this group doesn't support fasting, which is totally your prerogative. I've been LC and Keto for many years now and hit a weight loss stall through all of 2107. A friend began fasting and dropped 20lbs in 8 weeks, which put her at goal. At first I resisted, then I jumped in in…
  • Gosh, it's hard to say without knowing exactly what you're eating. I've certainly done a lot of experimenting with my diet to see what works best and this is what I've found to be effective I don't eat a breakfast til late morning, like 11am or 12pm. When I do eat it's super high fat, like 2 whole eggs cooked in pork…
  • When I smoked (years ago) and would quit, I'd have horrible hunger, at leas that's what it felt like. Perhaps you're still going through a bit of withdrawal from the cigarettes. I've read how most of our smokes are laced with 200+ chemicals and sugar is one of those chemicals in cigarettes. Since I don't know anything…
  • Yeah, if I don't blow like a typhoon, I'll get no results...I wonder it something is wrong with my unit
  • I bought one last month and I have to blow like I'm blowing a house down to get a result.
  • 5'9" 1/2 down 50 lbs from my highest weight. Would love to get to about 172, which would be a total of 100lbs lost. This is a great place to find help and good friends. Welcome!
  • Gosh Lynda, I wish I only had 20 to lose! I think I still need to drop about 40 after losing a total of 60. But I know that 20 can feel just as daunting as 100. Stay here, check in with us, read, read, read...find the thing that resonates with you and go for it. There are many philosophies on weight loss here. I think it's…
  • Sometimes I'll make a cuppa my mochacoconut recipe 1/2 C Decaf Coffee 1/2 C Canned Coconut Milk (like Thai Kitchen or Native Forest) 2T Cocoa powder 1T coconut oil (optional) 12-15 drops Stevia extract with vanilla Since I'm a traveller, I use the little one cup coffee maker. I put the cocoa in the cup and brew the 1/2 C…
  • Hon, you and I know it's because this is not a "normal" way to eat, even though it's been proven to be safe and very effective. The average person has never heard of anything like this and I guess some are a little opinionated even if they haven't studied alternatives. Don't be afraid to tell them the basics of why you're…
  • I've been fairly low carb since Jan 2012, and have dabbled in a ketogenic diet, but never had much success with it til now. I'm 2 weeks into this 'really good college try' version, meaning I'm being very particular in what I eat. No dairy except butter, no cured meats, no grains, no sugar, no beans. What am I eating?…
  • To answer your question about a cracker or bread for pate'... Instead of either of those options, I love slicing a cucumber up and using it for things like pate' or even brie. A little dash of a seasoning salt like Borsari on the brie makes it even better. (tho I'm not doing dairy just now...)
  • I'm not taking the chances with anything sugar for now. When I eat sugary things, it's like fireworks exploding in my brain, like the 4th of July up there. I LOVE sugar. I love the taste of it in desserts. I love the way desserts come out when sugar is used... I HATE that once I start eating it, I can't stop. So...I'm not…
  • I'm with ya. My theory is that it's all about insulin. Two of its main purposes are to lower the sugar in our blood and to help our bodies store (fat). If we eat a food that requires our bodies to produce insulin, our pancreas sends out insulin in our bloodstream to lower that sugar level. AND, for the 3 hours that the…
  • By the way, the Stevia Extract from Whole Foods comes in a little dropper bottle as it's a liquid. The small bottle is $8.99. I've used it nearly daily for almost two weeks, about 10-12 drops a day and am not quite halfway through the bottle. They do sell a larger bottle, but I forget the price. Even using it everyday, I'm…
  • My experience with the stix was rather bland. Not til I got the meter and started using it did I see real results. What I've read, the stix measure one type of ketone in your urine, but the meter reads the ketones in your blood stream. These are what really make the difference.
  • I think it's okay... I've been using it most days this week and have still been in ketosis according to my ketone meter. I've been using the Stevia Extract from Whole Foods that has a bit of vanilla in it. It doesn't say this on the front label...just on the back. It's been about the only type of stevia I haven't hated.…
  • Hey Kyanca, CONGRATS on hitting a major milestone today! That is amazing! I'm so happy for you!
  • I'm still around and just now really getting into ketosis. You're welcome to friend me...and chat here.
  • I'm finding being dairy free (except for plenty of butter) and not eating cured meats has made a crazy difference, at least I think that's what it is. I'm seriously in ketosis, this AM I registered 5.1 on my blood meter, the highest it's ever been. I've been dairy free all week and think I'll stay off it for a while…
  • Feel free to add me. Glad to have a new friend
  • I'm experimenting this week with the only dairy intake I'll do is butter. We shall see...
  • I have a Precision Ultra meter and get the test strips from an online Canadian pharmacy for about $2/strip
  • You might try buying a ketone meter to test your blood levels. I have one and am re-committing today to getting into ketosis. I'm gonna cut dairy exept for butter for the week and stick to meats, fats and veggies only. I'm the queen of stalls and I'm also the queen of not giving up. My weight loss chart is laughable for…
  • That there is a new found sense of calm and peace that happens over the long term when you're doing something right for yourself, like eating properly, exercising regularly, keeping on a budget etc...it's nice to find a little calm in this crazy world by simply taking proper care of things
  • I'd forgo the ketchup as it's mostly high fructose corn syrup these days, ugh. I travel lots, so I have to get creative when it comes to ketogenic eating. If I have a fridge and microwave, I'll get bacon and eggs, which you can microwave. A carton of heavy whipping cream is great to have around, I use it in the scrambled…
  • Good article, thanks for posting this
  • I would love it if the authors could have this book converted into a digital format so I could buy it for my iPhone. Being a traveler, it's so handy to be able to read books on my phone...no extra weight!
  • Upon looking up a little info on our protein needs, I found this webpage quite helpful. Looking at it, it seems there are different opinions from professionals on protein requirements (imagine that!). For me, Dr Rosedale's recommendation for my body's needs would be about 71g per day of protein. I'll wager I'm getting more…
  • The Ketostix measure a substance in your urine, but I've read they can be rather inaccurate. Evidently, a better marker of your body burning ketones for fuel is tested via your blood by a ketone meter. This substance is called betahydroxybutyrate. If you check out Jimmy Moore's "n=1" experiment on his livin la vida low…
