Good Morning Team! Not too much time today, but I will be spot on with nutrition, that's for sure. I'm getting ready to do Cardio Party 3, and hopefully I'll be doing KenpoX later tonight....depends how much studying takes over my life. Let's start off the week right! Bring IT! M

Way to Bring IT this weekend everyone! Let's hear how that elliptical is working out Sweet... M

Yeah, I definitely recommend open communication. The other day I totally *LOST* it with my dad. He is the unhealthy one (diabetic, overweight, ex-smoker who just had a quadruple bypass Feb 08) and he waved a cookie in front of me and asked if I wanted it. He full well KNEW that I have been eating clean and working out hard…

Thanks FC! I've been on the lookout for more articles... M

I don't think potatoes are the enemy either...it's what we do with them that's the problem. Baked potatoes usually come with some friends like butter, sour cream, cheese, and bacon bits for many people. Or we fry them and then dip them in ketchup...or cover them with cheese. I like plain baked potatoes too but I…

There is a difference between flavored vinegars and vinegarettes. Just to clear it up, vinegars are just that. When it says vinegarette, it's likely an emulsion of oil, sugar, and the vinegar...big difference in calories. Hope this helps!
-
You eat carbs on Atkins...from nutrient-rich vegetables. Unless you're eating meat and ONLY meat, there's no way you would be getting no carbs from food (which Atkins DOES not recommend).
-
Just a word about whole wheat bread...many "whole wheat" breads you buy at the grocery store are often still made with bleached, processed flour and then have caramel coloring added back in to make them brown. Basically, no different than any old white bread with one more chemical added to it. I'd look for 100% whole grain…

TurboJam Cardio Party 3 done! Going to go run a few miles after a meeting tonight...I can't wait! Great weekend everyone. Way to go! M

I agree with whoever posted about Jillian's podcast...awesome. Candy= diabetes in a box!   Sooo true! "If you're still smoking, give me a break! It's '09! Get a clue! You're not only killing yourself but those around you. You are that annoying guy that everyone hates because you're smoke is blowing in…
-
Aww, quit that smoking...:noway:

Vinegarettes for sure. Just watch the sugar content on some of the fruit flavored ones...and most restaurants add lots of sugar and high oil content. Even better? Just ask for straight balsamic vinegar on the side. 5 calories per T. Then dip your dines into the dressing and THEN into the salad. You'll get it on every bite…

Hey Mya, I think Osmium from NZ on our Bring IT thread weighs around what you do and is doing the Couch 2 5K program. I took a quick look at it last night and I think I might try it as well, though I'm feeling like I can run a bit longer these days. If you do a search on it, it'll give you a 2 month plan to get yourself…

Good Morning team! The reason I asked everyone is because some of the trends in Human Resources are leaning towards insurance plans that offer incentives or rebates for quitting smoking and losing weight. As many of you know, they look at unhealthy employees as a liability, and it's true. Smokers and obese people have more…
-
Well I have given up studying finance and cash flow calculations for the night:huh:  and I thought of a question. Does your company health plan offer an insurance incentive (refund/per pound lost or time without cigarettes) for losing weight or quitting smoking? If so, do you think that these plans actually work and…

If any of you are into podcasts (I spend a lot of time in a quiet office at work, so I'm addicted), there is a good one called Fat2Fit radio that's free and there are many episodes. They also have a website...if you get a chance check it out! M

I read that turnips are a good alternative to potatoes if you like that texture....
-
Yep, cut the pasta. Devoid of any nutrients really, and pretty calorically dense as well. Good luck! Mmm sweet potatoes.
-
Lots of calories...especially at night. Try tapering your calories throughout the day and you'll probably be fine...pasta makes me feel lazy anyway. And carbs hold a lot of water with them, hence the weight increase. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a pauper....works for me! Just thinking…

Yeah, even though I am doing Lean, I do Plyo instead of CardioX sometimes. The other night I made myself repeat the Plyo and Core Syn sections of CardioX just to make it longer. I think I got my calorie burn up to 550 then...but it took me Bringing IT really hard in the plyo section. I do love Plyo, but not too often…

Neeterskeeter! I figured you would drop right back down to 132 pretty fast. Tricep dips eh? Those are killer but I've been getting better at them too. I love it when I make huge gains in short periods of time like I am with my push-ups. My arms are starting to look good! I just need to cut some more body fat and they'd be…
-
Osmium, I'm running into the same problem with TOM and no weight drop, but I can still feel the changes happening! I have a feeling that once it's over you'll see a huge drop. I am going to have to look into the Couch 2 5K that everyone keeps talking about. I don't have a treadmill or gym membership so I might have to stop…
-
Miss Resa, I LOVE TurboJam! I'm not exactly queen of coordination either, but it's still really fun and burns a ton of calories. As Chalene says, mistakes burn calories too! I usually burn 500-650 in an hour of TJ and my heart stays up near 170 the entire workout ( I use weighted gloves too). I haven't done TJ in about 6…

Helloooo Everyone! Bringing it with TurboJam and Legs and BackX today. Maybe some FinanceX as well...lol. Lots of studying to do so I won't be checking in much but I know you kids can handle yourselves and Bring IT! Great motivators everyone; I have a pair of cute little jeans that hang by my mirror. Once my butt shrinks…

Woohoo everyone! I feel the same way Georg...I'm pushing myself hard just so I can come back and tell you guys! (Well, mosty:laugh: ) Mya, WTG! Little victories like that make you realize how wonderful it is to actually live life again. Once you get this weight off are you going back to work? I need my hair done…

Atkins does allow more red meat and higher saturated fats than most plans do these days, but it was waaay overplayed in the media. He said eat until you're full, not stuffed. Don't eat processed food. Get your carbs from vegetables and fruits. You can have whole grains when you get closer to your goal. I don't think he…
-
Yeah, in case you haven't noticed, once you drink the Beachbody kool-aid  you just can't help but want to tell everyone about it. Probably why the coaching business has been so successful. Personally, I don't use the coach much, but I know Emily is always there if I need to ask her something. Some people scoff at…

Get a heart rate monitor. The monitors on the machine aren't accurate anyway. The HRM provides a constant read and can tell you how many calories you're actually burning.
-
The more you weigh, the more you're going to burn. People who weigh more have a higher maintenance level and Basal metabolic rate. What activities are you doing? You should be able to burn 400-600 if you're keeping your heart rate up in your target zone for 40+ minutes per day...

I'd say it's safe to make one of these shakes a meal then...honestly, I am a big advocate of trying to get all your nutrients from whole, fresh, foods, but sometimes it's just difficult and I can't eat that much. Make sure you're eating enough too. I don't know if your plan sounds like enough food for me. Also, I choose…
