Oats that you make yourself are the best - no added sugar and good for keeping cholesterol at bay. If you like to have it a little sweet, add some fruit - all natural or a touch of honey. Much better than the processed cereals

I hate that comment!!!!! I am now maintaining but got it lots when I still need to lose - almost all are big people so are actually jealous of those who are doing something about their weight!!!!
-
EXTREMELY well said - totally agree - people need to realise that it is a lifestyle change and that the body needs to stay healthy. I have lost around 50 pounds since the end of January - averaging around 1 pound per week - doesn't seem much, but I still enjoyed the food I love - didn't deprive myself of anything - but…

it's not healthy. It is better to lose around 1 pound per week - you are more likely to keep it off that way. Net calories for that should be no less than 1500 to still be able to get all the nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy

FAB-U-LOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done on a really BIG achievement - you look fab - very happy and it sounds like you have been doing this sensibly and not doing anything which is a fad - keep up the good work

Sometimes people are afraid to say anything because they don't know how mentioning weight loss will be taken. I am sure they are noticing, but are too scared to say anything. I know that once I mentioned to someone how well they had done, but they took it as an insult...so I generally don't say too much now unless someone…

I have difficulty posting photos, but my profile pic is now a comparison - the 'bigger' me is 8 December 2011 and the 'smaller' me is 1 August 2012. I have lost a little more in the last couple of months, but these are the best photos I could find to compare the size

Mine has been slower than most people like, but it is better that way to keep weight off and to be healthy. However, the difference is quite dramatic. Unfortunately alot of women 50+ are told, and believe, that they are unable to lose weight - complete fallacy. If you want to do it, and stick to smaller portions, the right…

I'm 53 and since the end of January have lost almost 3 and a half stone (just over 47 pounds) - almost 10 inches off the waist, and inches from bottom, thighs and arms as well. I have dropped 3 dress sizes in the process. I have trouble positng photos, but will try later.

Forgot to add that I eat 1400 cals per day

Interesting that alot of people say that MFP sets 1200 for women. When I joined and put in my goal weight and target weekly weight loss (1lb per week), it said 1400 for me. Now because I am near my goal, everytime I put my new weight in, it puts me to 1200, but I change it back to 1400 because I know that is best for me.…

I am 5'2" and looking to get to about 105-112lbs. (BMI around 20). I'm 53 and this is very achievable, even though many people my age and older think that they need to be heavier. I am about 9lbs off my goal weight so I know it is achievable. My understanding is that BMI for the normal weight range is 19-24. I know that…

Well done, but if you find it difficult to do both at the same time, quit smoking first and then concentrate on the weight loss.

700 cals is far too low to be healthy and won't do your body any good
-
Definitely need to be getting natural fibre from fruits and vegetable - preferably raw rather than cooked.
-
That amount is a very good amount - if you lose too much at once you are more likely to put it back on quicker. How many calories a day are you eating now? Around 1500 is the ideal amount to lose around 1 pound per week which is the most realistic amount to aim for. also, are you making sure you are eating from all the…

It is too low for anyone - body could go into starvation mode, which means you won't lose weight. Ideal for women is 1500 and men 2000 if you want to lose weight and be healthy - getting all the right food groups and nutrition. Should lose around 0.5kilo (1lb) per weekd - slower, but much better for the body and better…

Try to get the smallest you can. If you must have butter have a small scraping. Otherwise a low fat cream cheese, or cottage cheese are ideal to have with them. Then load up with veges - I put on peppers (red and yellow for variety of colour), cherry tomatoes, onions (steamed) and mushrooms. If you like corn, this can be…

750 cals for breakfast is way too much. Add some banana or berries to the cereal and also have an egg - the protein in it will help fill you up. It's OK to have a snack mid morning but try to limit it to a piece of fresh fruit.

Night time hunger is often more boredom than hunger. Try drinking some water instead, that helps to keep you feeling fuller.

Well done and you look fab

Hi. I've just turned 53. Since the end of January I have lost 42 pounds and feel fabulous. Nearly at my goal weight and it is staying off. I am going to start training for a duathlon to be held in 12 months. I already cycle to work and aim to start a running programme soon.
-
Try having a few sips of water instead of eating - after about 20 or so mins the 'hunger' should go away.
-
Fantastic!!!! Looking fab
-
In most cases you usually lose a fair bit in the first week. It tends to steady after a few weeks
-
Men trying to lose weight should have about 2000 cals, so 1930 is not too high
-
Well done - you look fab!!!!!

People have told me I look younger - especially since I lost weight. They are shocked that I am old enough to have a 30 year old daughter.

It is a fact of life with most sporting events - try to encourage fitness, but the sponsorship is almost always from companies that provide unhealthy eating and or other habits (eg smoking when they were able to advertise cigarettes).
