I read somewhere the contract is coming due and the company DirecTV pays to use those networks is trying to raise their rates by 40% which would make our bills go up again and they are fighting it.

Food and alcohol should never be rewards! Reward yourself with getting your nails done, or a pedi, or a new hair style, new clothes, jewelry etc. Using food/booze for your rewards will keep you in that cycle you are in.
