As a child of Scottish immigrants & pipers, I've grown up around men wearing kilts all my life. My da gifted his uncle's kilt to my husband many years ago and he's worn it to a number of formal and casual functions. With a Prince Charlie jacket, it's as formal as a tux (which hubs also owns) or, for less formal occassions,…

184.77 - Finally got out of the Chetwood and am wandering through Midgewater Marshes.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice. Talked to my physiotherapist at our appt and she recommended 3 different trainers. She did have an order of preference but said I should be able to safely learn to lift heavy things from any of them. I have an appt with the first one on her list later this week.

@slbeutler & @ezak86 - Thanks. I don't belong to a gym per-se. I have a city rec pass which provides access to city golf courses, swimming pools, fitness classes, sports fields, etc. Through the city rec centres, I can access personal trainers for an addtional fee. The city blurb about the trainers is "All Recreation…

Until you wrote this, it didn't occur to me to call my physiotherapist and ask if she had any recommendations for trainers. Thanks for the "ah-ha!" moment. ETA: I'm going to skip calling her and just ask when she's torturing me with silly exercises tomorrow ;)

Good point! I never even thought of that and yet with my balance issues it's likely going to be something to be expected in the beginning. Most definitely. Since many foods can either make me very ill (doing long term damage) or quite literally kill me, I don't tend to take advice re: foods and eating from anyone outside…

Suggestions? Anyone? I know there are some very knowledgeable people (and some professional personal trainers) on MFP so I'm hoping to get some advice before selecting the PT. Thanks.

I have child sized feet (and hands, I'm such a freak) so heels usually aren't an option for me. On rare occassions I can sometimes find 1-2 in heels when visiting Europe, but in Canada it's darn near impossible for me to find adult looking shoes in a child size 3! Ergo, I wear flats. A lot. I dream of the day when I can…

A long time ago (circa '93) I used to write short stories in the round with a group of friends. Numindan was my character's name. She was a 500+ year old vampire kitty cat with a crotchety (& often hungry) group of friends.

Since I'm allergic to nuts, I'm going to go with 1/2 banana and some milk.

I did a purge a few months back and donated all the oversized items to charity. Only clothes that fit are in my closet and drawers. That said, they range in size from a size 40 dress from France, a few size 6 dresses, and one size L dress. My dress pants range from a size 2-6 and my jeans from size 5, 7 and 27-29. Tops are…

03/11/2012 - On my way to camp in Eastern Chetwood. Sick, so not much actual walking. How did the hobbits manage it? (152.73) 03/12/2012 - Still working my way to camp in east Chetwood (156.73)

Usually, I sleep through my tattoos (I've got 10 of various sizes). Not including times when my artist woke me up to shift me around ... I woke up during the outlining of two of them. Poppies (breastbone, few inches below collar bone area), and Dr. Who (top of my thigh, just below my *kitten*). If I recall correctly, the…

I'm a little bit behind posting my walk. 03/07/2012 - Reached Bree - Reach Bree. Stay at The Prancing Pony. Meet Strider. Ponies stolen during night. I'm coming into this group late and using my walking records since Feb 6th (129.3) as my starting point. I hope that's ok. So, based on the tracking chart at http://home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/Tools/Bag_end/bag_end.html, it appears I'm 6.8 miles into "Return to Great East Road (ca.5:30). Tom departs. Strider sees…

Good morning. I'm Sheelagh. Currently residing in Edmonton, AB, Canada. I've been tracking my walking for the past few weeks and just found out about this group. Seems an awesome way to keep me motivated AND my get my geek on. My first goal is to walk from Hobbiton to Rivendell (468 miles) and I've already managed 129.3 of…

I adore the show and the cast is incredibly talented and generous. Felicia is a self-declared Browncoat and is always front and centre donating items for our charities. And the show. Complete awesomesauce. If you haven't already, consider adding Sandeep's (Zaboo) "Legend of Neil" to your must watch list. It's a hoot!

If your breasts are mostly fat tissue, you'll likely lose. If it's mostly breast tissue (I'm told they're different) you may not. I lost 4 band sizes but ended up increasing in cup size (from a DD to an H) when I lost 65 lbs. I'm in the process of arranging for a reduction as the new size is just ridiculous on my smaller…

Me too. Although, I am trying to relieve my TV viewing guilt lately by only watching when I'm jogging on a treadmill.

Rudy - When his friend dies Dead Poet's Society - When Sean Robert Leonard's character kills himself Platoon - When Willem Dafoe's character is killed Leon - "for Mathilde" *kitten* Out of Carolina - Entire frakkin' movie! It's a powerful beast and a movie I'll never watch again, but in well over a decade, I've never…

My favourite ;) Just be careful to select the no fat option (if that's what you're in to) as some can be upwards of 8% fat. I suspect I don't have as many options as our US counterparts as I've never seen Chobani or Fage on shelves in the stores I shop it. Have heard tonnes about them though and usually all good. Nor do we…

when I first started losing weight, I rewarded myself with small non-food items along the way - new haircuts, a dress, shoes & a fancy purse. the purse took forever to save $$ for, so was my 50 lbs lost goal item. When I hit 65, I got a few new tattoos (I have 10) including a large one on my right thigh. My new reward when…

Hubs attended Nijmegan in late 90s/early 00s (will have to check with him for exact year) as part of a military team and always said it was the most wonderful experience. The teams rotate here so he's never had another opportunity to go back but I know he'd sign up in a heartbeat if his current Sqn had an opportunity to…

I started losing weight 2 years ago. For the first year, I was constantly cold - even in the midst of 30C temps in summer! Per my doc my vitals were fine (I lost on 1600-1800 cals a day). I just wasn't used to not having all that lovely insulating blubber. After losing 65 lbs, I went into a maintenance phase and after a…

There's a few decent cons in Canada. Polaris in TO, CCEE in Calgary, Wizard World puts on a Con in TO a few weeks before CCEE. HalCon in Halifax has been growing these past few years. There's smallish, specialized (less hollywood, more authors) cons in Edmonton, Winnipeg & Saskatoon as well. Creation runs a bunch in Van…
