  • 144.12 mi - Continues cold, gray and windy.
  • I have 10. Various sizes. Some appear in my profile pics. Have plans for more over the next few years. I tend to follow one rule for placement; I must be able to cover them up in a nice pant suit when necessary. Rarely is an issue at work. Most people don't seem to care that I'm tattooed now that I've been working in the…

  • 107.46 mi - Cross a small stream but not quite ready to camp for the day (Yule)
  • I have tiny hands. My fingers don't go all the way around most of the dumbbells and barely make it all way way around the oly bar. That said, I do wear gloves because I found my grip was worse without them. I have weak forearms and grip so two exercises I've been doing is holding heavy dumbbells in each hand for 60-90…
  • No. I tend to get energized. I usually have to set an alarm that tells me to put down the book and go to bed if I'm reading in the late evening. If the book is written well, I've been known to stay up until I've finished it. Reading all through the night is pretty common for me. Again, I "blame" my dad for this behaviour ;)
  • I read 2-3 fiction books (sci-fi, fantasy, crime procedurals, mysteries, etc.) a week and way too many academic texts and papers to keep track of. I attribute my appetite for reading to my dad. When I was wee, my dad used to take the family to the library and check out as many books as his card would allow. Every evening…
  • Where I'm from it's illegal to ride your bike in a cross walk. If you want to cross there, you have to dismount and walk it across. Otherwise, you follow the same rules of the road on a bike as you would in a car.
  • Reaverized or non? I'll take the one you don't want ;)
  • Feel like I'm going a tiny bit backwards these days but I'm determined to focus on form as opposed to strength for the next few weeks. Squat - 90x5/5/5/5, 85x5 Bench - 62x5/2, 60x5/5/5/5 Rows - 70 Still deloaded quite a bit on squats but got my *kitten* to the ground on all of them. Dropped to 85 on the last set because my…
  • Funny, last night at a BBQ with friends we were all talking about our celeb crushes (of which there are many). I've met one of mine a number of times and hubs has met another one. We were both in separate areas running errands when hubs met crush #2 and his response was "if I'd known he was going to be there, I would have…
  • Most definitely, I was just lamenting the other day that I have clothing in my closet that I wear daily that have size ranges all over the place. I wear a XS, Sm, Med, 2, 4, 6, or 8 in pants/shorts/skirts and a Sm, Med, 8 or 10 in tops. My favourite dresses range from a 6 to XL. I'm consistently (across multiple brands) a…
  • I've been on the local news (and in the local paper) a few times over my life for various reasons and as a child was on the locally produced version of Romper Room (one of the Cdn ones).
  • Late chiming in but it's because I spent Joss' birthday throwing a monster big shindig - our local Can't Stop the Serenity event! Didn't get him a card but we're shooting lots of cashy monies to his favourite charity so I think that makes up for our thoughtlessness ;)
  • Took a look at the pic and discovered that my hands look like that on a standard OLY bar. I can't imagine what my hands would look like if the Fat Gripz were installed. Twice as thick likely means I wouldn't be able to get my hand around 1/2 the bar...
  • Since I was struggling with getting past parallel so much last session, I ended up deloading my squats by a fair amount yesterday. Then I worked my way up in weights once I'd gotten form straightened away (without the box this time!). I expect it'll take me a while to get back to where I was pre-box squatting but each and…
  • Bumping for reference
  • I know this is a resurrected, stinky old post - but I love me some Zombies so I thought I'd chime in. I did Curves for a few months a number of years ago and left out of frustration with their staff. The late teens/20 something teeny bopper employees had no sports or nutrition training but spouted off the latest health…
  • That's a fabulous idea. Thanks!
  • In a not-so-funny coincidence this also happened to me last night. I kept asking hubs if I was reaching parallel because something just felt wrong about my squats last night. He kept saying yes. Recorded self and *bam*.. not even close. So, I ended up doing box squats for the rest of the set to ensure I was getting my…
  • I wear gloves. My hands are tiny (barely wrap around the OLY bars) and I really struggled with grip as chalk seems to be a no-no at my gym. Sicne I started wearing the gloves I've found it much easier to hold the bars. If you can't circle them, you gotta find ways to modify ;)

  • Yep, they're me. Well, they're of some of my tattoos & bits of me ...
  • I’ve loved watching B.B.King perform. I gushed over the great performance from LIVE and storytelling of Gordon Lightfoot. I had a ball watching Elton John in his element and gained a new respect for Rob Zombie at an Ozzy concert. I go see the Boys of St. James Gate at least once a year and sang along with Sarah McLachlan,…
  • I've just finished the Bag End to Rivendell challenge and am moving on the Lothlorien. Hope you don't mind my jumping into your thread ;) 27.88 mi - Empty country - rough and barren.
  • 459.72 mi ... Wheee! I made it to Rivendell on June 1 and am now marching off to Lothlorien. Keep it up everyone. You can do it! Edit to add distance.
  • Also, do any gyms in your area offer free/reduced cost memberships? My sister qualified for a free one year membership (she has to requalify each year) at our city rec centres due to her low income. It's the same gym I go to, so I guess I'm subsidizing her free ride... Then again, as she's currently living in my spare…
  • *hides* When I'm lifting alone, I'm a huge squat rack hogger. If I don't have a spotter, it's the safest way I know to lift and avoid hurting myself if I fail. Luckily we have two racks at our gym and it's usually not busy when I tend to go. I don't lift with music and I never mind being asked how much longer until I'm…
  • My absolute favourite thing about my gym and the SL 5x5 program is that I can do it alone if I need to. My usual partner, my husband, is in the military and has to leave on exercises continuously. When we first started SL, he spent the time showing me how to drag a bench under the squat rack (for presses) and how to set up…

  • Fabulous progress. Can't wait to start seeing body re-comp on my frame ;)
  • ^^ THIS. For instance, I'm working on improving strength and endurance as well as rehabbing a large number of injuries, so my schedule likely won't work for others as well as it does for me. 1 day a week = 60 minutes = work on endurance/flexibility/range of motion with PT (usually body weight and/or lower weight/higher…
  • I agree that sometimes, the people, rather than the equipment or extra services make the gym. Mine is filled with current and ex CFL football players and training staff. They're the nicest people who are frequently willing to give advice, provide a spot when needed, or help you with your form. Perhaps that's why the other…
