  • Allow me to address the concerns from the last two posts. I am most certainly NOT in favor of a "pay-to-win" model. Not in the least. Nor am I in favor of being nickel-and-dimed to death by paying for every little thing. For example, when Star Wars: The Old Republic first when FTP, they actually tried charging for…
  • A friend of mine graced me with a key so I played for a few hours over the weekend. The game itself is pretty huge (weighing in at just shy of 30G once it's all installed.) I'm assuming a lot of this is likely dialog, as virtually all conversations are voice-acted. On the plus side, it seemed quite stable for a beta. I…
  • Managed to score one for Christmas as a gift. It's a huge step up from the old PS3 camera in terms of resolution, light sensitivity, etc. Right now the only app to take advantage of it is the pre-installed "Playroom"; a sort of Augmented Reality demo that's huge fun with groups of people. It can also be used if you stream…
  • If they'd take a RROD'd XBox 360, I might look into it. However, I already have an XBox One. I might, however, take the credit toward another 360 (still a bunch of games I'd like to play on it.)
  • I haven't had any problems with mine so far, but it's apparently a common enough occurrence. Here's a Reddit link with some discussion about the issue. http://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/1qtxk1/is_anyone_else_having_to_hard_reset_the_ps4_due/ What I walked away from with this post is to hold/hover over the power button…
  • I've heard positive things so far, but since I wasn't at the CES to witness it firsthand, I'm still going to take a wait-and-see posture. I'm mostly concerned about how they handle spooling/buffering, and latency (how fast will it respond to commands.) If they can do that with reasonable results, I'm on-board.
  • Yep, that about sums it up! LOL I kept telling myself I wanted to go back and play both the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. Got them on sale. Started them. Aaaaand there they sit. Someday...someday...
  • Regarding backward compatibility: Both Sony and Microsoft have said (in very vague terms) that they intend to support some sort of streaming support of older games in the future. I'm not at all sure how solid this relatively new technology is going to work, but it's slated for both consoles. There are many unanswered…
  • I've had both since launch. Both are solid consoles, both have limited titles right now (but with many more to come very soon), both are comparable in terms of performance and graphics, and both have sought-after features that are in the pipeline to be supported by their respective companies. I got the PlayStation Camera…
  • Yeah, my buddy and I just signed up for it earlier this week too. He's a huge Star Wars geek, so the idea of going pew-pew in an X-Wing appealed to him. ;)
  • I have "hero" mechs (the ones you buy for cash), but to be honest my favorites are ones I've earned through C-Bills. The Catapult K2 is a beast, and is my go-to platform. Light mechs (and their pilots) are a special breed. They rely on speed and guile to succeed. They are definitely not a beginner's choice if you can help…
  • Never got into the Wii, although I still have my old GameCube (haven't hooked it up in years, but I still have it!) I used to play the everlovin' crap out of the Metroid titles. The Wii U is interesting, but not enough compelling titles to warrant a buy just yet. Not saying I won't get one eventually, just waiting for a…
  • Yeah, been playing since August. Went all in...got the Phoenix Overlord package, and the Saber Reinforcement mechs should be dropping in a couple weeks as well. I'm up to 24 mechs now, loving the game. Haven't played it as much the past few weeks because new consoles, but I still hop in for a few matches and I'm sure I'll…
  • Got mine on Launch Day, it's actually pretty slick once you get the hang of Kinect 2.0 (you don't have to, but the Star Trek cool-geek factor is at play here.) I figured it's is similar to having a wife. It only listens to you half the time, and the other half it gets what you say wrong.
  • Haven't heard of a patch yet, but they have a new name for the problem. http://v.cdn.cad-comic.com/comics/cad-20131115-de418.png
  • The UI is definitely minimalist, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I always thought the Cross Menu Bar of the PS3 was a little over-plumbed and almost always intrusive. Of course, we've had 7 years of getting used to Dynamic Themes and custom icons and the like, so this "one size fits all" probably grates on a few…
  • Yeah, I had nothing but a good experience all the way around (well, except for the aforementioned UPS guy...a pox on him and all wearers of brown shorts.) The shipping box was well-taped and stuffed to the brim with those little air-pillow fillers they use. The PS4 box itself was pristine as well. The only issue was…
  • Still waiting for the UPS guy to bring my PS4. Meanwhile, watching some folks on Twitch do their unboxing and testing the new system. So far, I'm liking what I see. The Playroom (used in conjunction with the optional PlayStation Camera, formerly the PS Eye) is a pretty slick virtual reality app that could make a hilarious…
  • Pretty much the same here: I allow the reviews (and reviewers) to inform my decision and not dictate it. Reviews are, at the end of the day, someone's opinion. and what they may view as a pro- or con- to a title may actually be the opposite of what your own experience and expectation may be.
  • I'm taking what many of the early reviews say with a huge grain of salt: many are based on "preview" builds, and IGN has a history of a certain bias against anything that doesn't include explosions and headshots (as I recall, they hated Kameo when it came out, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.) Regrettably, my UPS guy saves me…
  • Just got my email confirmation from Amazon. PS4 is on its way! Will be here Friday. :smokin: Unfortunately, Knack isn't scheduled to be here until Monday. Ahh well, I think they said they'll have some launch day goodies for download.
  • Will do, in fact Bungie has a deal where you get in on early Beta play if you pre-order, so I did. Will probably start the beta in the first quarter of next year. And I have Knack pre-ordered as well. Will be my first launch title for the PS4.
  • Mostly into RPG's and action games like God of War and the like. Not a real huge shooter fan, just don't have the reflexes for it anymore. Although ironically, I did pre-order Destiny...ostensibly it's a shooter hybrid, but there's enough RPG and MMO genes in its makeup to make it compelling. Plus, I'm interested to see…
  • Nerds rule! LOL I'm getting both as well, feel free to add me when you get them (gamertag for both is StarGeezerTim.)
  • Aaaand the countdown is on! As far as the CD's/MP3's on the PS4...no biggie. I never rip from CD directly to the PlayStation--on the rare occasions I actually listen to music over the PS3/4, I typically just stream off my PC through my home LAN. So when the PS4 gets MP3 functionality sometime early next year, I'll…
  • I can assure you there's at least one other person out there who doesn't quite "get" the whole MOBA craze.
  • I figured, "Why choose?" I've had every generation of both the Sony and Microsoft consoles all along, so why should this generation be any different. I'm all about the games: the hardware is just the vehicle to get me to those games. So, I pre-ordered Launch Day Editions of both the PS4 and XBO. Ordered them during E3,…
  • ^^ This Saw that it's supposed to be a Launch Day title available for download over PSN, so I'm going to wait. Seen it being streamed on Twitch, looks cool and all, but I'm not a big shooter fan. So I'm definitely on the fence over it.
  • While I'm intrigued over a couple titles coming out next month (Beyond Two Souls and Batman: Arkham Origins), I'm in a wait-and-see mode. I'm hoping they come out on next gen consoles (I have both pre-ordered) and would prefer to play either/both on a new console. If it doesn't appear they'll be next gen, I'll look into…
