HIIT (high intensity interval training) I do 1 minute hard and 2 minutes of recovery and go for 15-20 minutes. My recovery is walking at 4mph 1% incline, my hard is 9 mph at 4-6% incline. The nice thing is that these workouts are short but they SHRED calories like none other. Also, similar to wieght lifitng, your…

I feel you on this one. About 2 years ago I sprained on of my paraspinus muscles (the long ones that run along side your vetebral column all the way up your back). It was incredibly painful and all you feel like doing is nursing yourself back to health with not so great food and sitting around. You've got the right idea…

Seeing patients in their 50's who can't get out of a chair without pain or walk down the hallways without losing their breath. I thougth that 1) I have to set a good example and do what I ask others to do and 2) I cannot let that happen to me

OMG how do you even eat veggies on that?! I rely so much on whole grains to help me feel full and power my day, I don't know how people do it! I guess to each his own...

I'm curious as to what everyone's idea of low carb is? Right now I'm doing (trying) 40% carb, 40% protein, and 20% fat which is a bit off from the 40/30/30 I've seen recomended but I've upped the protein because I lift heavy. I make sure that the was majority of my carbs come from whole wheat, slow release carbs. For…

I think the authors included the special workout as a motivational tool to show you how far you have come. Judging from your pics, motivation is not something you lack! I say skip it and jump right into 2, although 1 rep max does sound pretty badass....

thanks ladies!

OMG fantastic! I started heavy lifting about 3 weeks ago and I love the results so far. Your pics really motivate me to forgot the scale and focus on inches and shape. Every woman should lift like this!

Have you tried buckwheat pancakes? Still a little high in calories but you feel really satistified from all of the fiber/ whole grains. As for the topping, someone else on MFP suggested cutting the syrup with hot water so you can still saturate you pancake but use 1/2 the syrup. Lite syrup and honey are also good choices…

Wow, you are doing such a fantastic job. If nothing else, the fact that you are saving your body from the pain that is diabetes is an acomplishment in itself. Top that off with your fantastic new body and you should be very proud!

a ginger marinade/ glaze tastes amazing with salmon. Take equal parts of honey, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil and grate in some fresh ginger and garlic. Marinate for 20 minutes then grill or sear the salmon. While cooking the fish, add the marinate to a sauce pan and reduce it to a glaze consistency. Delicious!

I saw the same thing!! This makes me so angry! There are plently of people out there trying to make healthy choices but are not aware of how careful you need to be with things like that. Hmmm... maybe a letter to congress of the FDA is in order lol

Don't do it!!!! You are microwaving your DNA every time you are exposed to UV rays, it literally causes physical damage to the structure of your DNA which can lead to cancer. On top of that, it causes wrinkles, age spots and a host of other skin problems. Don't get me wrong, I love being tan but I have found that tinted…

At first I tried to really balance my cals over the entire day but I found that I was really hungry at dinner but I can go with a lighter lunch. Dinner is the only meal I eat at home during the week so I really like to slow down and cook and enjoy it. What I've been doing is pre-planning and packing my breakfast, lunch,…

i preplan my workout based on something I know I can do. For example, I did 1/2 mile intervals at my target 5k pace. It was pretty hard but I know in my head I can do it so I just stick to the plan and convince my body that it is possible.

Because "dieting" sucks. When you give yourself to many rules you are bound to fail. Let yourself eat what you want just watch your portions. Hit the gym a littler harder so you can have that martinit (or two *cough cough*). That's what I've learned most from this site so far.

hint of lime tostitos, 150 caloires for 6 chips!! Who eats 6 chips? (and never mind the sodium) I still have them every once and a while but I actually count out induvidual chips and then eat them with big scoops of homemade salsa to add something good into an otherwise terrible but delicious snack. Most of the time when I…

hmmm it way be just you're not use to the movement/ form? If you get a chance, ask the instructor to watch your stride and make sure it's nice and fluid. You want to focus on pulling up just as much as you push down as if you were wipping mudd off the bottom of your shoe. This will make sure you engage your hami's and…

yes, make sure your bike is fit properly. Also, make sure you are keeping the sole of your foot parallel to the floor vs. pointing your toe downwards when you petal, this ensures that you are using you quads and hamstrings rather than you smaller lower leg muscles to constant flex and extend your foot.

I love a strong back and shoulders especially if I can see their teres minor, it's my favorite muscle on a man

Iift weights (not barbie dumbells) to add lean mass. you can't spot reduce your abs but adding muscle really helps boost metabolism and you'll feel awesome. I've lifted for a while but I'm starting the New Rules of Lifting for Women plan and I'm super excited about it. Give it a try!
-
Welcome to Wisco! Best of luck with your weight loss.
-
Vote up for New Rules it's fantastic. Uber vote up for nixing the bunny weights and going for it. Muscle on a women is awesome and unless you shoot up testosterone you will not look like a beast.
-
Yes, avoid the scale! If you weigh everyday you'll get tied up with all the normal fluctuations your body goes through (I did). Pick a weigh in day once a week or so and let that be it. As for loosing, as long as you are being honest with yourself and logging every bite and staying under your caloire goal then you will…

Adding lifting would be a great help. And don't do barbie weights. Lift heavy, build muscle!
-
Same problem here which is why I took measuremetns at my last weight in. Numbers don't lie!
-
Do you take measurements? You could be shredding some inches and not lbs if you're adding some muscle.

Have you tried Kashi frozen dinners? They have more fiber than most of the LC's and they are delicious. On most days, I do more smaller meals so their portion size of 290-380 is perfect for me. I agree with everyone about fresh foods but these have saved me from poor choices when I'm tired or stuck at school.
