I had about 2 weeks of bouncing between 205/207. (Down from 220 with a target of 180.) There are some theories. Some say having a day or two of indulgence (to heck with the calories!) will give your system a little jolt and mix it up a bit. I assume it triggers the metabolism in some way that the calories begin burning…

I follow it pretty closely, but I am always hungry, so it's rarely a problem keeping up on them. Usually it's just a really wierd, busily-unscheduled day when I just can't make it. Weekends and the like. One thing to remember as Denmother points out is that we are each different. The best thing to do is to try it…

I agree with Furpaws to an extent in that if I am under my calories one day or another I don't worry about it. However, I do find it easy to make up on them. If I'm way low in the evenings, I'll just have a couple handfuls of peanuts. Lots of calories, protien, fiber and other good stuff. Only takes a couple handfuls of…

I doubt one person here can post that they never did the same thing. Nobody's perfect, so just get right back on track asap!

Some people say they have trouble eating all the calories they are alloted. Give it a try for a week and do your best to eat all your calories. (Remember, exercising means you need to eat more.) If your weight does not move in the direction you want, then re-evaluate your profile settings. Maybe you are less active than…

I'm pro fibre! BTW, William Shatner could take Dr Oz. :smokin:

It works as well as one is honest with one's self.

Both kinds are important for health. What's the good of pressing 200 or 300 lbs when running up the stairs leaves you flattened? There will be more informative posters than I to follow here, I'm sure, but my understanding is that aerobic exercise - when done properly - is the best way to burn fat. It uses up the…

If you are making progress, maybe put up a newer one. Speaking personally, I'm halfway to my goal, but when I see in the mirror what's still left to go, it can be a bit demoralizing. Still, I can see improvement. I guess it's motivating. I haven't decided.

It's true. Tips and advice only get you so far as you've already discovered. The first couple of weeks were the hardest for me. It's takes a little 'pain and sacrifice' but after that it gets a little easier. You have to Want It. If you can't stop reaching for the food, you'll never get anywhere. One thing I personally…

Congrats! Keep it up!

Correction. I only went 585 over. Still bad but less dispiriting. I'd forgotten to log my exercise. I would have been fine if not for those stupid corn chips. :grumble:

Getting your exercises worked out here is a bit of a challenge. Anything you want calories counted for need to be entered under Cardio, regardless if whether or not it is strength training. I find the database a little touchy when searching for exercises. I lump everything I do under "Work Out - Moderate" That's about 80%…

I went over 900 myself. No wonder I'm hitting a floor. As far as advice - and speaking only for myself - it really doesn't matter what anyone says to me. I've heard it all before. I know the consequences of going over my targets. I wish someone could say a "thing" that would "cure" me, but no amount of advice or…

It's a great site. Doesn't try to get you to do anything except pay attention. Welcome and good luck!

I peaked at 220 and made my decision to lose. I figure I should be about 180, so 40 lb total for me and I'm down to 204 since the end of October. I don't have a particular goal date set. It took me 16 years or so to put on this extra weight, so a few months give or take to get it off is peanuts. (While I can still…

That's too bad. I could use a good 3 cal bagel.

Hello and welcome!

I started out with a sedentary setting as well. I didn't use a pedometer, but I found myself really lethargic after a couple of weeks. I couldn't get out of bed and I'm normally a very early riser. My brain didn't seem to be working well; I just felt icky all 'round. After one day over-eating my calories by a fair amount,…

Definitly all good points but "something as trivial as gravity "??

When you enter exercise it "earns" you more calories. You should eat them. Your net calorie deficit remains the same. Oh, and congratulations!

Congrats!! Happy stories for today? Under 205 2 days in a row.

Here's a great no-frills site for strength training and stretching and stuff. http://exrx.net/ (I find the using the drop down over the main area of the page is helpful for getting around the site.) Most explanations have a picture or sometimes an animation that might help in place of 'flash cards'. If you click on a…

M-F Daytime. I work remotely, so less stress than I might have otherwise. To be honest I don't track my water because I drink a lot of it naturally, but I know it fluctuates, as does my salt intake. Sodium is the thing I am having the most trouble controlling, so it might be that. I'm systematically eliminating…
