Just my 2 cents on this. I read a lot of posts extoling the virtues of the 6 meal a day method, so I tried it for a little over a week. First off, I found it was harder to keep on my target calories, but I did. During the course of this trial, I gained about 4 pounds. I quit doing this and went back to 3 meals (plus a…

How does this play out with regard to your target calories and how much you are actually consuming in a day? Healthy food =/= weight loss, unfortunately, or I would not need to be here. If you are going over, the reasons are obvious. But if you are way under, then you might be going into 'starvation mode' in which…

Yup. Use the food diary to track your calories. Stop when you get to the limit. Sounds like you are eating healthy enough. You just need to get a handle on the calorie count. Incidentally, many folks eat 6 times per day rather than 3 meals to promote weight loss and keep the metabolism up. You already have that…

Of all the things I crave, chips are at the top of the list. Congrats on your willpower!

I just recieved some video from my sisters wedding that was at the beginning of October. It was returning from that that I started with the weight loss('cause the stress got me started by losing 5 lb). Anyway, I couldn't put 2 pics side by side, but I'm pretty sure I look a lot better than in that video and it's barely…

Not when the description of your problem is "error blah blah..."

This site works wonders. Welcome and good luck!

Stop eating in the dining hall and make your own is the only way to be sure. Unless they can provide nutritional stats. Have you asked for them? Otherwise, maybe try this site http://www.calorieking.com/ , search the foods and make your best guesses on content and quantity. I sometimes use that after eating at a…

Tough one. I think a generally accepted motivation is envisioning yourself as you want to be. Get that mental image in your head: How you will look slimmer, standing on the beach and looking great! Some people are motivated by the idea of doing it for others, such as some posts where one partner is off in Iraq and the…

If you want some extra sodium, try a little smoked or pre-cooked ham. I'd been using that to up my protien, but just realized how much sodium is in it. Sheesh!

If everything aches most of the day, every day, then I'd guess you are over doing it. Aside from the importance of stretching that has been covered here, I'd suggest taking a day off every 2 or 3 days. IMHO, your body is telling you something. (I'm a big believer that our bodies tell us what we need to know.) It sounds…

Yup, that'll take some dicipline, but could be accomplished. I believe for ladies it is safe to lose up to 3 pounds per week. But, hey - if you don't manage to operate 100% on this, don't be discouraged or give up. Even if you don't precisely meet that goal, just think how much better you'll look and feel after 5 months.

It's sometimes tough, but worth it. Welcome to the site!

Combination of patch adn keeping the nico-gum handy for real cravings worked well for me. Though I did not successfully quit, I can say that I never had any unmanageable cravings. I just didn;t really want to quit yet. Right now I'm like jm and want to reach my weight goals, since putting on some weight comes with quiting.

That's a great site. I've been able to calc some otherwise impossible-to-calculate calories with that and I've used it to make a list of some good low calorie foods.

Here's one link with some machines on it http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc Here's another link to a thread on this site where some folks shared this kind of info http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1056-why-not-strength-training

I just work it, baby! Worse things could be happening. But seriously, as a guy I can only attempt to understand what it is like for a woman in that situation. Don't let the remarks mess you up in your program. As disrepectful as they are, they are sort of proof of your progress. I doubt that helps one bit, though.

I was never a sweets person. Until I started dieting. I am glad the leftover Halowe'en stuff is gone!!

Congrats! It feels good to see the scale down a bit, eh?

I'm looking forward to the day the fat melts off my belly. Should be at least a 4 pack under there by then. I do sit ups, but 4 or 5 other ab exercises as well. Hopefully I'm on track. My rule of thumb is to work any particular muscle group as many ways as I can. And I couldn't possibly do 200 sit ups anymore, so…

Hey, I do cukes n' vinegar, too! I hardly snack. Can't afford those calories on anything less than nutritious. :frown: But I occasionally have a few cals left over and have the mini bags of buttered popcorn. I never thought of getting unbuttered and spraying Pam on them. Does it actually tase like butter?

Pretty ..uh pretty good piano playing I mean.

Most upper body movements could be done from a chair. Light weights, side bends. Touching your toes... There's enough ideas in this thread, you should hardly lose any calorie burn! (Reading this made me think of my first "weight set". It was a suitcase which I filled with various amounts of canned goods. )

To honour my screen name origins I will change my avatar for the day. :)

Interesting link. I even caught a new (for me) triceps movement from one of the links in it. Sadly I am guilty of being a late breakfast eater. I shall go fix that right now!

I can relate to the tummy. I'm pretty healthy looking - everywhere but my gut! :ohwell:
