I find wrist bands/trackers to be a waste of money for me, as, well, I don't walk very much on a daily basis (nor do I plan to start) and thus a pedometer is pretty worthless. As for the scale though, I got a Withings scale because I'm too lazy to upload my weight every morning and it's worked out great.

I do 7:00am workouts twice a week but that's as early as I go, as even then I'm waking up at 5:45 to get ready and commute. That said, I love evening workouts after a long day of office work. The trick is to find what works for you.

I wouldn't call it a lifestyle but I follow a form of low carb diet most days. Feel free to add me.

You are really, really overthinking this. Pee when you need to pee. Drink water until you're sufficiently hydrated and when you're feeling thirsty.

You probably won't find a lot of support here for Optifast, as VLCD's are not particularly popular except under doctor orders/drastic circumstances for precisely some of the same reasons you list in your OP. You could give it a try, but there are other ways you can lose the weight while eating real food and without going…

Studies on the subject suggest that our bodies can support a much more aggressive deficit than most people typically run, while still preserving LBM with resistance training and if protein intake is set properly. Usually it's the mental aspect that leads to failure with more aggressive diets, as they aren't fun to go…

The problem is once you discover the wonderful world of aged balsamics, there's no going back to lesser vinegars.

I usually aim for a pretty aggressive deficit, but if it's starting to affect your performance, it might be time to ease off a bit on the deficit. Beyond that, it largely comes down to how aggressive you can mentally stand to be. Some people are going to do better slow and steady, while others are going to be happier with…

Looking good man. Nice work!

Or investing in their future. And on that note, I'll see my way out.

Agree with Dawn - if you really need a ton of dressing, your salad isn't interesting enough in the first place. But beyond that, there is no right answer. You don't have to use them to lose weight but there's nothing wrong with lighter dressings - I don't always use them, but if you enjoy the taste and it saves some…

Agree with kshadows. That said, I do sort of the opposite - I either workout fasted very early in the morning (well, 7am, which is "very early" for a non-morning person like myself) or I workout in the evening around 7-7:30pm and then eat a late dinner afterwards (usually 9-10pm). Experiment to figure out what works for…

I hear Kai Greene tried this and he certainly was well conditioned at the Olympia... but I wouldn't really recommended it.

It's always wise to have a back-up plan!

Is detoxify slang for hydrate? If so, go for it!

I haven't heard of a sugar detox for treating ED, but I hear there are some little blue pills that work wonders.

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I'm just being straight with my answer, but that you've failed in the long term and regain the weight is on you, not the diet. Blaming the diet rather than yourself, and thinking some double "lifestyle change diet" is going to fix all your problems is just nonsense. How do you not…

I'd recheck the facts. People who lose significant amounts of weight, regardless of how they lost that weight, have dismal rates of success. Calling it a nice warm, fluffy term like a lifestyle change diet – whatever that is – doesn't change that.

How about citing an example where someone who's a frequent poster/mod said that weight lifting is required for fat loss? Not just that it helps with reducing body fat percentage during a cut, but rather if you want to lose any fat you must lift weights. Or how about the statement that "all you need to do is lift weights to…

That's the problem with prose; word choice matters. They're right your statements beyond achieving a caloric deficit were inaccurate, but it's similar to correcting someone's grammar; yes, they're overstatements but correcting them doesn't really help the OP.
-
And if a regular tells you to listen to him simply because of his ticker, you should call him out on practicing broscience as much as a forum newbie who claims he's right simply because he's had weight loss success in the past.
-
The problem with that analysis is that I don't know anyone saying "lift and you'll be skinny" or even "lift weight because it burns all teh caloriez!" For the OP to have a point that such a statement is a myth, people would have to actually be making such statements in the first place. I know a lot of people that advocate…

One of the absolute worst things you can do for your health is to be obese. It doesn't matter what your blood work looks like today; you're at risk for all sorts of serious health complications down the line. Doctors and other people aren't trying to be ****s when they tell you to lose weight; they simply understand the…
-
I'm not seeing any myth; I'm seeing an OP that's apparently confused as to why people recommend weight lifting. It's not to burn more calories, although it does do a bit of that; rather, it's to retain lean mass. It's really that simple and no amount of cardio is going to give you that same benefit. But if you don't want…

This thread has potential. I'm in.

I'd focus on doing your own research and finding what works for you, rather than worrying about what other people think. Honestly the majority of people out there don't really know what they're talking about when it comes to fitness and nutrition and are more just repeating what they've been told; in short, broscience is…

This would indeed result in weight loss for me, as just the thought of drinking pure skillet drippings after cooking fatty hamburger meat makes me want to throw up. Keep it simple. Log the number, ignore the drippings, enjoy the burger and move on with life.

Barbell squats are a great exercise but they aren't the only good exercise for hitting your legs. Goblet squats, weighted lunges, leg press machines and the like all lead to gains and they don't require a barbell. Work with what you've got and if you later decide you really want to do barbell training, find a gym with a…

If you're the type of person that gets nasty "keto flu" symptoms when going into and out of ketosis, then taking a break is probably a bad idea because you're just setting yourself up to feel miserable for a few days. If you only managed to make it 10 days before dropping the hammer on some cookies, I'd probably reconsider…

Usually when people get bored of eating the same thing over and over again, it's because they're eating the same thing over and over again out of convenience. I'd just say try to get more adventurous with your meats and veggies. There are many of different cuts of meat you can learn to prepare, and a whole host of…
