  • From an admin post back in June when they Beta tested “woo” Hey folks!! Thank you to everyone who participated in our poll for a new reaction. We had a very clear winner. The winning vote goes to... Woo! Since Woo is a different type of reaction than anything we've enabled in the past, we're going to start this off in beta…
  • I gave my granddaughter money and she had so much fun with it. I took a square tissue box and emptied it (saved the tissues). Then I used freezer tape and taped the dollar bills end to end and rolled them in a loose roll. I taped a Kleenex to the last one and tucked them all in the box with the tissue out. I hen she…
  • Machka - I have a spi belt. It works okay but bounces a bit if I load it too heavy. I also have a flip belt which doesn’t budge but it sits snug so I sweat on it lol. The sliver stretches quite a bit so it holds most phones. It is not waterproof. I did get my gait checked but have just over the years kept track of…
  • I found that I have to avoid any artificial sweeteners too as they make my body react just like sugar and lead to cravings. Read an interesting book, okay I listened to it. I have it in print but found it easier to digest if I listened to it. It's called The Obesity Code, Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss by Jason Fung,…
  • Weeks 2 and 3 1. Maintain 20g or less of carbs through Dec. 10th. Running a full marathon on the 9th and don't want to kill my fat burning ability and bonk mid-race. I did great through the race. No bonk! Plenty of energy. Been so-so on the 20g of carbs though, edging up to 30g a day due to holiday stuff and travel. 2.…
  • Starting weight 204 Goal weight - 145 12/03 - 155 12/09 - 153 (after the marathon.... knew it wouldn't last. lol but hey, I wanted to see the number in print lol) 12/11 - 155 12/19 - 155 Holding steady. Not complaining since I know how I've eaten lately. lol 12/24 12/31
  • @elize7 I have only seen purple once and that was the day after my marathon. I never achieve more than a light pink. My husband NEVER tests positive for ketones using a urine dip but he will with a blood prick. So each person is different. I would love to have the instant input of purple!
  • I've been traveling and so haven't had my regular scale and I'm a bit touchy about using a different scale.... I swear they all weigh differently. So... when I get home I'll weigh in the morning and see how a weekend of full-blown non-Keto Mexican food affected me.... There is no resisting it when you go "home" to visit…
  • Took four of the grandkids to a musical this morning. A production for kids called Rock Nativity. The Christmas Story in song featuring rock music. They all like it. I take them about four times a year to different plays. My daughter laughs and says I'm turning them into "theater snobs." lol Choir concert for a different…
  • Okay, so I had a regularly scheduled Dr.'s appointment and we talked through what happened after the race. Knowing my personal medical history he and I were able to piece together a good picture of what happened. I was not low on electrolytes. My sodium and potassium and magnesium were just fine as I made super sure of…
  • Do you know how hard it is to find fresh goose to cook?
  • Pickle juice is HUGE at trail runs. They sell it and it is at all the aid stations, plus pickles. Which I took advantage of. Yes, the run was at Brazos Bend State Park, known for their alligators, kind of an alligator refuge. I expected to see more so two was a bit of a disappointment. This race is known as the fastest…
  • The weather was beautiful for the race. Started at 30 degrees and got up to about 50. Only saw two gators on the run. Was probably too cold for them to be out. They like sunshine. This little guy was about six feet long. Proof. My first "medal" made of wood. lol Trail runs are awesome. The atmosphere is totally different,…
  • I stand corrected. I only know what my body was doing. I am fine and the addition of some sugar/carbs righted the situation. From MY research on the situation afterwards at The Diet Doctor and Dr. Volek's site I was not imagining the symptoms and while it may not have been diabetic ketoacidosis it was real and needed…
  • @elize7 - I am in awe of people who keep up with resolutions. I tend to forget them a week after I make them! That's amazing that you keep them and really work on them. Definitely inspiration for me! I love clean slates too, unfortunately clean plates too. ;) All good here, no soreness at all from the marathon. Had a bit…

  • It really helped that I read the book "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance" before doing the race. I was well prepped as far as refueling and keeping my electrolytes up. Keeping up the electrolytes really made a difference. I HATE gatorade and those gels they hand out so I used a low-carb electrolyte (Nuun)…
  • For a truly amazing feat..... not that my son did the 100 miles in 29 hours but that the winner of the 100 mile race finished in 14 hours! That means he ran an 8:24 mile for 100 miles! He passed me twice and he was really moving. He had pacers that kept him on pace. They were allowed for 3 of his 6 loops. He was trying to…
  • There were alligators in the entire park. This state park is known for the alligator. Kind of a refuge. But alligators aren’t out at night. They like sunshine. I only saw two on the whole run for me. Disappointing. Lol. You run about ten feet from them so you are close but they are well fed by nature only and leave people…
  • My son finished his 100 miles in 29:05:50
  • Did the Brazos Bend 100. I did the full marathon and my son did the 100 mile. He finished in 29 hours. The winner of the 100 did it in 14 hrs! Mymarathon Time was unremarkable but a finish! I like trail runs.
  • Oh yes. He actually changes socks and shoes and compression sleeves every 25 miles. And he has a change of clothing for one stop. He is prepared. This isn’t his first ultra long distance. He did a 100k in February. I wear compression socks for long distance and I have compression tights. Definitely helps me.
  • Finished my marathon! It was actually a long course, just under 28 miles. Not fair I had to do extra.
  • I finished! Full marathon. Course was actually long and about 28 miles. running with the alligators. it was a pretty trail, nice running most places but the snow two days ago made parts terribly muddy. It was like running in glue. met my son on the trail. He is still out there running an ultra-marathon. 100 miles. just…
  • Plan for December: Maintain 20g or less of carbs through Dec. 10th. check check... net carbs at least. Stay within calorie goal - 1385 Nope Meet sodium and magnesium goals check Drink more water - 2 liters minimum I have tried so hard to do this but am struggling with water intake Add 20 new low-carb/keto recipes to my…
  • How bad does it get with 4" of snow in Houston.... well...... North of us it isn't a problem. They get snow enough that people know how to drive in it, or on ice. The biggest problem in Houston is people refuse to slow down so they are trying to drive 70mph bumper to bumper on ice and you can imagine the mess it creates.…
  • Is snow Keto? Cause we got it in Houston. Lol
  • May not seem like much but hold on to your hats...... Houston has snow!!!! We got about an inch and a half at the city house. About 4” at Home (40 miles north of downtown Houston). Everyone is going nuts. It will be totally melted off in another hour but it makes it feel like Christmas a bit more. The cold weather will…
  • Blood pressure is always higher at the doctor's office, mainly because you walk in, they plunk you in a chair and immediately take your bp. For true blood pressure you should sit quiet for a few minutes. Usually I'm rushing to get to my appointment on time so the heart is pumping. lol And I'm amazed at how many nurses…
  • I've been really strict with myself the past two weeks. I want to be in strong ketosis on Saturday so I can do this race without bonking at mile 20. I'm set with electrolytes and at the half-way mark my husband will have a couple of fat bombs for me to snarf down. :) I guess I'll do anything to justify a fat bomb or two...…
