  • feel free to add me if you'd like to - I will want to see a few words about yourself and/or a note with friend request, but I'm happy to support.
  • Yeah - it's the FAST WEIGHT LOSS! Thing that is such a nonsense trap, and so enticing to even people who don't need to lose all that much...
  • ooh, thanks for that.
  • Another thought for everyone - regardless of opinions on Dr. Oz (I think he's neither quack nor genius, and see him give some helpful information to people, but whatever) - there are definitely ideas that working out FIRST THING (...check out BODY FOR LIFE If you didn't already do that plan back in the 90s, for…
  • Here's to YOU!!! And the fact you're definitely going to have a longer, happier life now - in the end, that's the payoff - keep it up and happy new year!
  • Here I am! Weighed in at 180.8 this morning (3 pounds up from last weigh-in... but compared to that one, body fat monitor thinks I'm 4 pounds down in fat and 4 pounds (!!!!) up in muscle since 177.8, and hangin on to 3 extra pounds of "other" weight)... Got a goal to get rid of some of that water and another couple pounds…
  • My Timex unisex one, which I just got for less that $45 in a less popular color on Amazon, was well-reviewed on Amazon and seems to be working great for me. Most of my buddies on here have Polars, but Timex is certainly a good brand and could be a good option for you.
  • OH AND - one of the few foods I HATED as a child (uh, I was a gooood eater... and thankfully got fed whole foods, mostly!) was cauliflower... HUGE REVELATION for me as an adult has been ROASTED cauliflower. Someone suggested this with broccoli, I think cauli kicks it, tho, in the roasting dept. pan spray, small-chopped…
  • ...wow! ...I'm wondering how much great/whole food you've had in your life, overall - lots of people who were never exposed to vegetables cooked well think that they hate them, and suddenly find they like many of then when they have them prepared nicely, and fresh. Agreed with some below: first, if you can take tips on…
  • I'm with you on over-medium, also big into perfectly-poached, and scrambled right - classic French style, or hard/tender in frittatas/spanish tortilla.... And please with plenty of black pepper... and preferably the smallest slick of real butter (a fraction of a pat gets the flavor in)... And with seasonal vegetables,…
  • yep, stocking my closet with a permanent wardrobe - I'm SUPER happy dropping out of sizes, but I"m broke and know I'll continue to shrink, so I keep looking for little bargains on trousers and jeans that I can get for in-between wardrobe! But it's the first time I've ever felt so super confident I was on the way to a…
  • Re: 30 DS - I just got a Jackie Warner DVD for Xmas and it is a great deal tougher than 30DS (did the 40 minute circuit, it's a weights DVD, definitely kept my HR in the zone). Actually, lots of my workouts are tougher than 30DS, which I find "hard" because I find it TEDIOUS - challenging and quite a good workout, yes, but…
  • Have read advice in several magazines recently about this, suggesting that it's fine to exercise if you have a cold as long as you don't have a COUGH and aren't struggling to breathe (no serious bronchitis), and that cutting your normal routine in half and not pushing yourself too hard during the exercise is wise. If…
  • Yeah, not remotely in that boat, but I wouldn't probably consider that sort of surgery unless I weighed about 500 pounds. I know slow weight loss can be really challenging - I have had about 40 pounds to lose and have lost about 17 (dropped 10 before I started here, so it only shows 7) - over SEVEN months, not 2, as I had…
  • Definitely depends on the person. Likely to be underweight, but if you can set the goal but not be attached to the specific number, and then pay attention to how fit you are, you should be fine. I am gaining about a pound of muscle for every five pounds of fat I'm losing, and so my current goal at 5' 8", 38 yrs old, always…
  • And yeah, Kylieeee, I notice this too - if I eat a meal larger than about 500 calories (450's my usual max dinner/lunch size) now, I feel it big time - if it's over 600 I'm in trouble - I don't get sick, but I food coma out, even when it's good food. Just can't process that much any more...
  • I eat VERY little refined or added sugars and very little white wheat products, and very little pastry. I have started to notice a distinct correlation between a kind of sugar-butter/oil-flour combo and zits/inflammatory response. At first I thought it was in my head (and I DO feel it when I eat baguettes, for instance, in…
  • FRICKIN HILARIOUS I LOOOVE IT! I love random burny-face smileys at times like this
  • I never go with chains, no mattah what. Well, unless I'm with people who are going there, which is rare. Surely there's a local joint that's far, far better in Chi-town for $20 plates... gotta be... and they'd tell you ingredients no doubt, too, if not know the data.
  • Totally agree with what I'm seeing on here. Some people do use these things as an "excuse" but bodies are SO different, what's right for one is never going to be the same for others. I have a friend, for instance, with very narrow shoulders and bird-like arms (she's 5'5" or 5'6") but with broad hips (compared to her torso…
  • uh... a small pot like this is going to be 4 - 6 1.5 cup servings, probably.
  • Check the Cooking Light Web site, as well as women's fitness mag sites, for great ideas. You need a base-line concept, then work from there: A great starting point is to cook off diced carrots, onions, garlic as your flavor base, in scant (tsp or so), over medium. You can also add a chopped chipotle pepper to bring some…
  • Lot of good recommendations. Also preview long video clips at www.collagevideo.com, where you can also read a lot more detail about the videos. Excellent resource for fitness DVDs so you can really know what you're getting.
  • Also, WHAT you're eating could have to do with it. No idea but can be a thought if you're not focusing on food quality/cutting added sugars and stuff... And be sure you're taking your measurements! That'll be the real key to figuring out your progress.
  • feel free to add me as well - I've found this site super useful, and really value my MFP friends!
  • excellent topic and question! Yes and no... I am no longer willing to entertain conversation with people using religious, metaphysical or mythological ideas to discuss science, which is a massive problem especially back in the US, I find. On the other hand, religion should provide ethical and moral frameworks and should…
  • I also put up a long post on this that might be a little helpful, over in General Diet and Weight Loss Help.
  • Your BMR is NOT the same as your inactive metabolic rate. You probably burn closer to 1800 - 1900 in a sedentary day, not to mention walking, cooking, chores, etc. BMR is basically the calories you need to be alive. You'd probably be fine to just eat 1500 - 1600 cals a day and exercise, and not worry about the MFP numbers.…
