Alcohol-infused fruit cake covered in marzipan and white icing.

It can be a good starting point and very convenient for some, but it's not for me. Even though they've recently reduced the sugar content of the shakes by 30%, there's still 18g in one shake and it triggered sugar cravings in me. Not surprisingly I've returned to portion control of real food.

Wow, I'm blown away by the support from you all here. It really means a lot to me. I appreciate all your advice and all the laughs you've given me today, which has given me another kick in the right direction! And some good tips for future sabotage! I'm actually 44, which I believe is the older end of the scale for this…

Gigglegirl and xmarye, you are absolutely right. I'm certainly using it as incentive to continue on my journey - I just feel better for having had a little rant! Good luck to you too! khr771 - I would probably do that if she asked me how I was doing things as she wanted to make changes in her own life, but I…

Yes, I think I'll be taking a leaf out of the other colleague's book, who smiled and continued to lose her 30lbs. The colleague who made the comment to both of us is actually a really lovely lady in so many ways, who is great team player, as well as being excellent at her job, which is why I've probably taken her remarks…

If she'd said that, I would have directed her towards the mirror. I would prefer it if she said nothing at all to be honest. I wasn't inviting any comment on my weight, just as I don't comment on hers. She started the conversation 'You're looking very skinny now (which I'm clearly not), but you need to stop losing now as…

Thanks for your replies everyone - ironic that we both work in a doctors' surgery!

Thanks for your reply, zac, that's really helpful. You're right about her blending in. Before me and the other colleague started to lose weight, she was probably the 4th heaviest out of the 6 of us in our team, but now she's moved up to second place, so I suppose her way of dealing with it is to try and keep us up in the…

The 5:2 diet is recommended for health (particularly cancer prevention/risk reduction) reasons, with weight loss being a pleasant side effect. So my understanding is that it is supposed to be a way of life, rather than something you stop when you reach target weight. Some people drop to fasting one day a week when they…

It's the unit of weight measurement we use in the UK. 14 pounds = 1 stone (st), so OP weighs 116 pounds (8 x 14 + 4lbs).

Your post made me smile. :)

Presumably because they would appreciate the value of money more and make better use of the services if they were paying for them? But I appreciate that's not a given and maybe they are happy to pay for the impression of exercising ("I went to the gym for an hour today...(and sat around the entire time chatting)"). OP, I…

Wetherspoons chicken skewers are nice, and are 449 calories. I also like the superfood salad. With chicken it's 390 calories, without, it's 191. Also the superfood wholewheat pesto pasta is 581 without the chicken. I sometimes have the vegetarian sausage and mash is around 675 calories, and I leave a bit of the mash, as…

I agree with this. My activity level is set at sedentary, so I do include my weekly 'big' clean as 'light cleaning', as it involves dusting, cleaning, scrubbing and vaccuuming but not the everyday tidy-up stuff I do on the other days. The reason being, I'm being more active when I'm doing that cleaning than I am when I'm…

Yes, that's the problem when our goals are number-focused, and this is a common problem amongst those of us who have a tendency to yo-yo. Once we've achieved that magic number, there can be a huge feeling of anti-climax. And coupled with a vacation or special occasion where we allow ourselves to overindulge more than we…

Do your clothes feel any looser? Also, during this time, why not try measuring yourself? If you're losing inches, that is a better indicator of weight loss than relying on the scales.

Glad you feel better for telling us about it. :) It happens to me a lot, but the good thing is I'm learning to do it less. Sometimes when I have a binge, I can eat around 1500 calories extra, so 500 sounds fairly controlled to me. ;) When I wasn't watching the amounts I eat, as I am now, I was doing that regularly. But…

Well done for achieving those changes again! Similarly, I'm mainly motivated by refusing to go the next size up. Earlier in the year, I was the heaviest I'd ever been, but was more aware of the fact that my UK size 16s were getting tight and I refused to go out and buy size 18s. As well as the fact I was feeling…
