  • Outside hands down. I get bored instantly inside on my elliptical.
  • Go for it. Take it nice and easy and I'm sure there will be plent of walkers, there always are at 5ks. You won't come in last. Don't get caught up with the bunnies and run beyond your pace. Congrats on your first race. Be prepared, you're going to get hooked.
  • It's a great feeling isn't it! Congratulations! I was on top of the world a few weeks ago when I upped my distance from 5.5 miles up to 7.5 and ran for 1:05 and I felt great afterward.
  • Hey There, You've done a sub 1 hour 10k, that's not that bad. There are people a LOT slower than you. I think it all depends on your goals. Do you want to run a marathon some day?? If so, then start increasing you long SLOW runs and build your endurace. You should also do some speed work and tempo runs to increase your…
  • My last PR was 22:59! Made my goal by one second! Running again on Sept 1 and shooting under 22:00
  • It is hot right now, but I'm on the blacktop morning and night all the time. We have it in CA too
  • Hey, I run barefoot outside all the time. I've done a 5k barefoot too. If you don't like shoes, then don't wear them. Start off slowly and listen to your feet. Give it a try, I think you'll like it! Ran ran laps on a brand new rubberized crushed rock track and that was the best feeling ever on my barefeet.
  • You've been running on that little sleep! I think that's it. I'm nervous before races and don't sleep and all my races have been crappy runs as a result. I agree with the others, take a break and get some good sleep before your next run. Good luck! I have my first half a month after you. I'm right there with you on the…
  • I'm going with the SmartCoach on RunnersWorld.com. It builds a pretty good plan customized to your speed goals, training level and how long before the race. My plan is 4 runs a week. short, Tempo or speed, short and then long on Saturday. I do my tempo runs uphill  . That's a workout! Have fun and good luck!
  • Avid runner here too! Training for my first half in Oct. I would love more running friends. Feel free to add me.
  • I race for the competion between both myself and the clock and the other runners. Racing gives me a goal and a reason to train. I want to become a faster and better runner. Also, it's just fun! Being around all the people and the exitement.
  • Los Angeles Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon on Oct. 28. I'm might throw a 5k in this month or next to see how my training is progressing. After that the Orange County (CA) Marathon (full) in May 2013.
  • Thank you nicole. I'll look this up too after work.
  • Carson, Just checked your profile on runningAHEAD. I like it. Great mileage. When/what's your next race.
  • Thanks for the replies everyone. These were the sites that I had seen mentioned before, but couldn't find again. I'll start giving these all a try. Happy Running everyone!
  • Great Job! I'm scheduled to hit that milestone in 4 weeks! Thanks for the inspiration! The progress is amazing isn't it?
  • I don't normally, but i did get some minor chaffing form the seams in the lining on my last long run. I going to monitor that and I might try my boxer briefs under.
  • If you can't do it, then I can't. My long run two weeks ago maxed at 5.6 miles. I'm running a half a month after you. I just did 7.5 on Saturday. My training plan from runners world SmartCoach has me up to doing it no problem. You're way ahead of me! You'll be fine.
  • That does sound a little scary. Don't push too much if it's hurting. The 5 miler is probably not worth it. I haven't heard of this injury. Does anyone else have any ideas?
  • Or, you could learn to run barefoot!
  • I'm hijacking this topic to talk about me  I ran a 5k on Saturday and managed to run a PR of 22:59 (my goal was 23:00 ) I put my numbers into the calculator and it says the following paces for endurance runs. Recovery Jogs 9:36 to 10:20 Long Runs 8:34 to 9:51 Easy Runs 8:29 to 9:30 I have been consistently…
  • I have a new fav it's Borra Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel. It just being released and should be just under $20. Yummy stuff. Their 09 Fusion Red is also very good.
  • One more thing about naysayers. There are a lot of vested interests that spread information like "barefooting hasn't been proven to be better." That's false. Studies show huge decreases in impact when running with barefoot technique. The other side of this coin is there are exactly ZERO studies showing expensive running…
  • I run barefoot or in Merrell "barefoot" shoes. It's all about your running form and technique. Running barefoot helps you learn good technique. Once you do that, you won't need they big, expensive shoes anymore and can run barefoot all the time or in minimals or VFFs. Chi and Pose are both good methods. I read "Barefoot…
  • This is all great advice. You don't want to run on your tip-toe and it's harder to do that in regular shoes with a big heel to toe drop. If you're on a track, you should be able to barefoot w/o too much trouble. This will improve your form even more. Great work so far!
  • I am.
  • I like the early morning for the following reasons. 1. It's cooler 2. Less people and cars around 3. It's quiet 4. There's a community among the early morning people. I see the same folks all the time. 5. It's cooler 6. No question on my hydration and energy level. 7. It's a great way to start the day 8. If I run at night,…
  • Stretching before is usless for runnings. Make sure you warm up, that's what prevents injuries. Walk for a bit or do some jumping jacks before you run. I run barefoot and in minimalist shoes so I learn to run lightly. Pretend your a cat burlar and try to run as quitely as possible. Keep your steps small and quick which is…
  • Hey Guys, I do like wine. Trying to drink less however to avoid the calories. Favorites include Sauv Blanc, tuscan reds and Zins and other bold reds. We're taking a trip to Lodi and Napa soon! I'll have some good stuff then! I don't like most Chard. We're big Paso Robles fans too. Edward Sellers, Tobin James and Justin are…
  • I ran 5 miles on an empty stomach Sunday and then ordered breakfast at the restaurant I ran to. But you know, I wasn't really hungry and I didn't eat it all. I think you're not alone.
