Some favorites of mine:* Keto Clarity by Jimmy Moore * The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz * The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung * The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living (and/or Science) by Dr. Volek and Phinney Good stuff.

The first month is tough, but if you can get past that and keep carbs under 20g and learn to eat enough fat, you'll feel great!

There are some great keto groups on Facebook with support, recipes, success stories and science. They tend to have great reading materials and links as well. One I really like is called Ketogenic Success. Check it out, if it seems like something you can do, then just do it. If not, it'll still be there for when you're…

If you're already fat adapted, it's fine, but if you're not fat adapted just yet, the time it takes for your body to convert from burning glucose to burning ketones may cause issues with the milk supply from what I understand.

I know 2 men with MS who I desperately wish they'd listen to me about keto, but they're just not interested in even reading bout the benefits. It's so frustrating.

17 months keto today. I love it. For those who may be interested in how it affects a person's blood markers: April 2014: Tri: 1.75/155 LDL: 2.5/96.8 HDL: 1.09/42.2 Total Cholesterol/HDL ratio is 4.05 (prefer under 5.0, ideal under 3.5) - GOOD HDL/LDL ratio is 0.433 (prefer over 0.3, ideal over 0.4) - IDEAL Tri/HDL ratio is…

Okay, you don't want to even consider what I'm saying, that's okay. Continue on. I'm content doing what I do and I feel bad for those who don't wish to expand their knowledge, but I realize there's nothing I can do to help those people out. Have an amazing day! :)

The Mediterranean diet is actually not a bad diet at all. It has a good mix of healthy fats and lower carbs. BTW, I never once mentioned anything about keto, the point I'm making is that metabolically, carb tolerance is different for each person and someone who is now gaining weight or unable to lose weight despite…

CICO is one way to look at it, but I guarantee one gram of sugar doesn't equal one gram of coconut oil to the body. The body treats both extremely differently. Again, suit yourself, but in my opinion, it's worth educating yourself about the science. I keep saying that if I were to go back 5 years and told myself what I…

The anti-fat regulations were followed quite well actually, but not in the way you're thinking. What happened is that food producers took the recommendations and removed fat from everything they could (think yogurt as one item) and replaced the tasty fat with added sugar. All this extra sugar is far from good for our…

Fair enough, not everyone is metabolically challenged. Many people can continue to eat as many carbs as they wish and stay thin. There are 2 parts to this though, 1 is that they stay thin, but are still in fact, metabolically challenged and as such have a very high amount of visceral fat. This is fat that surrounds the…

Suit yourself. It's proven that the body requires ZERO carbohydrates, it's not a macro that is required as the body has the ability to produce all the glucose it requires. That said, carbs are great, but we've been eating so much of them that we've become sick and obese over the past 40 years. (Since Ansel Keys anti-fat…

Keep in mind that as one gets older, their body becomes more metabolically challenged. They naturally become more insulin resistant and as such, their body doesn't deal with the excess glucose in their blood as well, so it stores it as fat. No matter how much exercise you get, you'll never escape this problem without…

Every single side effect that you listed is either from a study that was short term (less than 2 weeks) or it wasn't truly ketogenic (high fat, adequate (not high) protein and very low carb) I don't trust the people who run the diabetes centres as they're all bought and paid for by the drug companies that they're giving…

Suit yourself, but I guarantee it works extremely well and as I mentioned, many T2 have gone off their meds and by their blood tests are not diabetic at all. They need to keep eating LCHF of course to stay that way, but they have zero diabetic issues going keto. Keto is not an "eat at a deficit" or "diet" way of eating.…

You went ZC eh? I don't have diabetes, but since I've been keto for the past year I've seen so MANY others with serious diabetes to the point of losing limbs and even near death who have turned it around and are now healthy, normal weight, and off all medications. It really is incredible. I'm on keto for another reason and…

If you want to avoid (or reduce) meds, you really need to look into the ketogenic diet/lifestyle. It's free, but you'll need to do a lot of reading as most doctors don't suggest LCHF diets since they can't sell pills when you don't need them. You'll also lose weight, reduce inflammation and get overall healthier.…

I'm going to give some unusual advice as you seem stuck and frustrated. I highly suggest reading two books: The Big Fat Surprise and Keto Clarity. These two books look at the science of how we evolved as humans and may resonate with you. Why is this unusual? Because it's not how we've been taught to eat. Why does this…

They're finding now that as we get older, we need a higher cholesterol. Plus going low-carb requires more sodium as was mentioned. 3000-5000mg per day is highly recommended. Also, make sure to be taking magnesium and potassium supplements too or you'll see muscle cramps, even after you've adapted and are past the "keto…

For a diabetic or pre-diabetic, I HIGHLY recommend looking into the ketogenic diet. By eating low-glycemic foods you won't spike your blood sugar and after a short period of time your resting BS will be in the normal (non-diabetic) range. I know quite a few diabetics (type 2) who have actually reversed their diabetes…

Keto is basically, very low carb (I suggest keeping it below 20g/day to start), adequate protein, and high fat. Lots and lots of fat. I find my bulletproof coffee (8oz coffee with 1tbsp pure butter & 1tbsp coconut oil) every day really helps keep the fats up. I have 3 a day. You'll want to use a keto calculator to find out…

I'm in the middle of week 5. I love how I'm never really hungry. Lost almost 10 lbs on it. Down a total of 18lbs since I've been at the gym and watching my food. Trying to keep my carbs under 25. Still don't seem to have adapted as I'm still very tired (Suffered from chronic fatigue for over 20 years). Feel free to add me,…

Congrats on hitting your ideal weight! Such a fantastic story!
