I am 56 and love triathlons! I would recommend starting off slowly and build a base before you start racing a lot or even jumping to the longer races. You don't want to injured!

I would try to acclimate yourself slowly to open water. Getting a coach can be very helpful! I help several athletes in my area with strategies for open water swimming and racing. One main tip would be to get a wetsuit. It makes you more bouyant!

The recovery is very important! I tend to over train and make impulsive training decisions based on what my fiends are doing and this at times has caused injuries. I sought out a coach last summer and that has helped a lot!
