  • White wine! But not chardonnay, for some reason.
  • I got a book recently on Burning Belly Fat, before I joined MFP. Don't bother. The authors sort of assume that some of people's issue is air or inflammation in the tummy, so they recommended a lot of stomach-taming stuff, like ginger, avoiding sodas, etc. Otherwise it was just more calorie deficit and exercise. They did…
  • I'll never totally get away from true books. I love to read in bed, in the tub, while I brush my teeth, etc. But I love that the kindle is so easy to grab for doctor's appts, while the kids are at karate, etc. It's like bringing a huge library with me, in a five ounce package.
  • I know virtually nothing about this, but I have to say that I was given almost identical information from a trainer 3-4 years ago. He said to do more reps with lighter weights. But no idea if that's accurate. A few MFP people have been talking about a book just out about lifting, for women. Maybe it would have some answers.
  • My business name. Also, a cygnet is a baby swan. I always felt like an ugly duckling, so it fit!
  • Have to admit that I am done with "diet" foods that I don't enjoy. I am eating more of a French/Mediterranean diet these days, including real bread (baked at home, usually), good cheeses, tons of fresh veggies, olive oil, eggs, etc. My sweets, if I "need" any consist of a square or two of dark chocolate. So yes, I enjoy…
  • I have had this same dilemma. I tried going straight to the gym or pool after work, but found (sometimes very realistic) excuses not to. I tried exercising after the kids went to bed, but I am exhausted by then. Over the last week or so I have been making myself go to bed by 10, and never later than 11 (I have always been…
  • It may just be a matter of making yourself eat them at first, and developing a taste for them. I used to hate them, too. I swear, as a young adult I went months without touching a veggie (except potato chips! haha). Now I eat bell peppers and snow peas every day as snacks (with hummus), go through about 4 large tomatoes a…
  • Wow! That sounds delicious! That may be what I make for dinner, instead!
  • 1% cottage cheese, tangerines on top, green pepper strips and hummus.
  • Really good advice. Gotta say, though, that I did this very thing. But after years of letting him treat me that way, he was not willing to even consider changing. In my case, I left him, after 15 yrs of marriage, and have not regretted it for a moment. I'm not for a moment suggesting that you do that-- this is NOT a club…
  • Interesting article! Someone sent me a similar one from the New York Times recently. I'll post it if I can find it. That article focused also on mental fatigue and decision making. I found myself wondering if that's why so many of us eat when stressed. I make my worst choices at the end of the day. I would never eat three…
  • No, but I came close. Years ago I saw New Order in Pittsburgh. They came onstage, turned on their computer-generated music, milled around, and left the stage. 45 minutes later, they returned. The lead singer, in this sneery, contemptuous voice, said, "We're just so happy to be here in beautiful Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania."…
  • If this was me, thanks!
  • I swear, your responses always make me laugh!
  • That's probably about right. But I've found that it varies so much from person to person. I'm 5'9", and below 140, I look gaunt, and people ask me if I'm ill. But I see supermodels my height who are (supposedly) 110, and don't look ill. So it varies. BMI is a good starting point, but it does seem to vary a bit between…
  • What this person said. Just breathe.
  • I take a pork tenderloin . I slice it in half, lengthwise (to make a sort of "sub sandwich" cut). I spread sundried tomato pesto in the center, and then drizzle balsamic vinegar liberally over the top. Sometimes I add fresh basil or rosemary to the top. Bake till 165 degrees or a little over. Delicious!
  • Your NSVs really brightened my day! So happy for you. :-)
  • It really varies from person to person. I'm 5'9 1/2". If I go much below 140, people ask if I'm ill, and I look gaunt. I see supermodels my height who (supposedly) weigh 110 and look healthy, so who knows? For me, I won't go much below 140. :-)
  • Your plan looks pretty nutritious and filling. I think it should work great for you! Do you like greek yogurt? Just an idea, but you may want to use it as an alternate snack-- TONS of protein, not many calories, no fat. As for soups, I try not to eat a lot of canned soups because of the salt. I ate one of the low-cal…
  • I like the consistency and texture of the Greek yogurt. The LIght and Fit is too smooth, and feels sort of "fake" to me. Chobani also keeps me full much longer. When I eat the vanilla, I add fresh or canned fruit to it. Delicious! I tend to not eat the plain. I eat Greek yogurt at times for breakfast as a stand-alone, for…
  • Helen Hunt and Linda Kozlowski (Crocodile Dundee).
  • I became very ill a year ago with a cancer with no risk factors. After that, instinctively I'm trying to limit the number of Frankenfoods and chemicals that I ingest. I'm not crazed about it, but my coffee is one area where I made some changes. Like you, I used to use Splenda and flavored creamers-- have you ever looked at…
  • There is a set of steps on an island in Ireland that I want so badly to walk without keeling over. It's on Skellig Michael, off County Kerry. It passes a bunch of "beehive" monk huts and a couple of stone oratories from around AD 600. http://www.skelligstrips.com/about4.html
  • Ya know, that didn't occur to me, that food in other areas of the country and world may have the same name and different nutritional info. To save time, I have been taking people's word for it most of the time, but sometimes I hit one that is obviously way off. Frustrating. I may go back to checking with my calorie count…
