  • Hello, I’m Jon in the South West in Wiltshire. I’m a ‘serial restarter’ 🤦‍♂️ Back on it again using local gym for workouts and PT sessions, enjoy spin for cardio. Would be great to have some mutual support 👍🏻
  • First time I’ve tried Saxenda. Just 6 days in so started at 0.6 and haven’t felt too bad. Some headache perhaps and I’m sure it made my tinnitus worse but otherwise fine. Would be great to hear of others who have recently started or been on it for a while. Also anyone form UK? Thanks!

  • Well I’m wanting to get back to gym but not ready yet :-( A small scratch on my left arm from one of my dogs quickly escalated over a week to being admitted to hospital through A&E. Massive infection in my arm, blood tests all going a bit crazy and confirmed signs of sepsis. Last 5 weeks I’ve had 3 of them as an inpatient,…
  • Thank you lynnsgoals2020 and beckyrpl. Sepsis gave me three weeks in hospital in the last five. I got admitted before anything worse happened! As it is, my left arm wasn’t too great and I’m recovering from skin graft. It’s really made me think I need to get my eating and health in order!
  • 5 min walk at fast pace, light weight bicep curls and body weight squats as a warm up. Cardio: 30 mins on bike using random resistance but maintaining cadence of 80 throughout. 1000m row as quick as possible. Circuits: 30 sec each of the following with a 1.5min break between each rep x 3 Russian twists with 5kg ball 10kg…
  • I’m on Venlafaxine....it works and it helps me. I was feeling very down, quite complex issues related to surgery, chronic pain, stress and so on. I was particularly worried because I always feel low in the winter months but I started getting bad over summer... They do help, but I find that whilst I don’t feel quite so down…
  • No no no! Sorry, that’s a no from me! I have no issue with shorts, tracksuits, spandex, leggings even working out in your jeans (but I wouldn’t) on males or females - whatever you are comfortable with - but naked (or mankini) gym workout and that’s something that just can’t be unseen!

  • Spinning is magic, I miss having a local spin class I can join in :-( As everyone has said, plenty hydration and a towel are minimum with whatever gym kit you wear. I personally wore my bike shorts for comfort and to also have fresh shorts for the gym before/after/later in the day. We used to wear HR monitors and saw our…
  • Thanks Ann, I’m feeling that this is going to take quite a while to recover from properly....so frustrating!
  • Sorry tardy reply... It was a good session. Some good moves to help with old injuries. Got advice on running techniques. Slam ball, kettle bell, free weights, balance all worked in. It was great! Woke up muscles I’d forgotten about. I asked lots of questions and went through my specific issues and goals - was listened to…
  • In this case they do specialise in running - that’s their thing which was a reason I thought I’d have a session with them. I haven’t block booked yet as want to make sure it’s a ‘good fit’.
  • I can’t give an answer for the hip op- I imagine though swimming and low impact will all be very good - both cardio and in the joints. I’ve heard of plenty folk able to return to normal, including dance. Best wishes - I have arthritic ankle so I understand a bit of what it’s like.
  • I wear them but low enough that I can hear and I’m really vigilant, looking behind me every-so-often and very careful near junctions. I stick to well lit pavements and on route that I know (save learning new route during the day).
  • Hey there, Running with my dog is a disaster, she doesn’t get it at all. Randomly stops in front of me and all sorts. I don’t go running with her now! Take it slow to start with and work up gradually - Listen to how your body is responding and that should see you right. Running shoes are likely the most important piece of…
  • You’re off to a great start! Keep posting, keep logging and there’ll be plenty of support for you :-) Thanks for the add, can keep each other on track and supported!
  • Look for c25k as a starting point. When I started I just t some decent kit and headed outside. It feels odd at first but headphones in and soon getting along. Start slow, work up to a distance/time, too far, too fast, too soon and you might get an injury. Maybe do run 1 min, walk 2mins plenty programmes to get you to 5k…
  • Feel free to add me on MFP and let me know your Fitbit iD - always up for a step challenge!
  • You’re not hopelessly unfit, you’re already doing cycling and HiiT sessions! You’re doing much more than anyone who sits on the sidelines! What do you like doing the most of - can you do more of that? What are your goals and targets that motivate you? Doing something because you think you ought to is likely to be a bit…
  • Well, for me I find that if I have the recommended. 2.5l per day (as advised by hydration council in the UK that advises on these matters), and if I am spreading that intake out over the working day (less at night or I’d be up during the night) then it works out I’m having a bathroom visit roughly 30mins apart. Having also…
  • Don’t stretch when cold and don’t over-stretch. Make sure you’ve warmed up first! I think stretching will help but not just thinking about it before/after a run. That’s good but you likely need to do more during the day. Knee pain can be caused by all sorts of things, it’s a complex joint! It can be caused by muscle…
  • I find this, usually after 1 or 2 km of running, the breathing, pace and whatnot all seem to align. I think it’s the point where I’ve properly warmed up, adjusted to the environment (rain, warm, cold etc) and where the muscles and body have learned to settle into the repeating actions of the run.
  • Thanks for all the replies. It’s good to be able to learn and hear from your experiences. The salt connection sounds interesting, my water intake is higher than it used to be as I now make sure I drink lots during the day (which is fine apart from bathroom break every 20/30mins!) at the same time I’m also making sure I am…
  • So many experiences of food intolerance! Sort of glad to know I'm not the only one with a problem with onions but of course would rather none of us suffer at all!
  • Wiltshire! Add me fellow U.K. MFPers!
  • Thank you everyone for the replies and advice. In the end I didn't go for a run. I did get a chesty cough and avoided exercise for two weeks (I really didn't feel like it!). Did a short run on Monday just gone and it was still feeling quit achy on my chest. Went out again today and things are much better. I still have…
  • Wow that's an amazing transformation dude! Very similar starting weight to me so this is really motivational! Well done!!
  • Thanks for the replies, been helpful :-) I'll aim for a gentle run this evening after work so I'm not pushing it too much but at least keep the legs moving and fingers crossed it doesn't develop!
  • Hi, I just let mine log the steps. MFP gives an adjustment based on activity level and I also have negative adjustment on. I still put a status update in to 'log' the workout but that's it. If you sync them and enter the workoutnin MFP you run the risk of double-counting. Add me on MFP and Fitbit if you like! :-)
  • Hi there, I appreciate what this can be like through personal experience: I had a bad accident many years ago when I got knocked off my motor bike. I have had broken tib, fib and talus, a subtalar fusion and all sorts of other surgery. My left ankle is very arthritic, with loss of cartlidge and joint space. That said, I've…
