Heel striking is not a proper way to run. It will lead to injuries. The proper way would be to land mid-foot, with the foot underneath the body.

You look amazing! Congrats on all you have achieved.

I don't know, such an individual decision. I have a friend who starting graying very young, and she let it happen. Her original color is very dark brown, so she has ended up with beautiful silver streaks that look really cool. I, on the other hand, have kind of mousy brown colored hair, and my graying hair doesn't look so…

Sometimes after my long runs, I will deal with what you describe. You could try adding magnesium as a supplement and see if that helps. If you don't have one, invest in a foam roller and try rolling your legs before bed. That has helped me. In general, a foam roller is a runner's best friend!

Just going to say the same: calipers need to be used by someone who is trained to use them....a trainer should know how. They take measurements from a lot of places, not just one.

I run very early in the morning, so I typically eat a piece of wheat bread with a little peanut butter before I start out. My stomach is not affected by eating right before I run. For long runs, typically between 8-12 miles, I will eat the toast with peanut butter and a banana, and make sure I am well hydrated. I do take…

I am very curious to hear responses to this, as I am in the same boat!

What I have learned in life (and it took me quite awhile, sadly) is that the only thing I can control is myself/my reactions/my behavior. What I mean is you are never going to be able to change your sister, or how she acts, but what you can address is your reaction to her. She can only make you feel bad about yourself if…

This one is kind of tricky, and honestly, at this point, I would try not to be too focused on calories. You are only 7 weeks pp, and your body still needs to get back on track. It is awesome you are exclusively breastfeeding, and like you said, you don't want to mess up your milk supply. I really think you just need to…

I actually don't weigh myself at all anymore. I go by how my clothes feel, and periodically measuring my body fat percentage with calipers. But prior to stopping the scale, I probably got to the point where I was weighing once per week, or once every two weeks.
-
I have this issue, too....I don't have any pictures to share, but what helped for me was squats/lunges with heavy weight (really focusing on making sure I was engaging my glutes), running, walking a steep incline on treadmill, and cycling.
-
I think one of the worst things people do is weigh themselves daily....those numbers mean nothing but it will discourage you. Please only weigh once a week. And better yet, you could monitor your success by measurements and body fat percentage....but I know it's hard to get away from the scale. It took me a long time to do…

I never feel like I am in the groove until mile 3-4. I thought this would get better with time, but it never has....so I'm figuring that is just the way it is going to be. This is the reason why I don't do many 5ks, and like 10ks and halfs!

Other people have said it, but I just want to reinforce: make sure your pace is slow enough. It is hard at first to feel that out, but you do not need to be running fast. And don't give up! Running is really hard at first, and it is a struggle for most people, so you are not alone. I exercised a lot before I started…

I work in a clinic and we are required as well. I gladly take the vaccination because I work with women battling breast cancer. The last thing I want to do is expose them to an illness that could take their life as they are undergoing chemotherapy. It is a small thing to do for the health of so many other people who are…

The only way to know for sure that you have a stress fracture is to see your doctor. If you are having intense pain, I would advise that you have a doctor diagnosis it. I know it can be bothersome to go to the doctor just to be told to rest it, but these are the types of things you don't want to mess around with. If you…

distance should always come before speed. You have to learn how to manage the "time on your feet" before you should be thinking about how fast you are going. Long run speed should always be such that you can carry on a conversation while you are running. It may seem slow, but you are doing important work by building up…

You have to condition your body to running, even if you have been very active doing other physical activities. Yes, you can get past your "wall" and run further distances, you just have to build slowly. Like others have mentioned, a program like C25K may be a good idea. You will probably think it seems easy at first, but…

Honestly, I think a lot of running is mental conditioning. I mean, obviously you have to build up to it physically as well, but any time I have struggled on a run, it is because my mind is trying to stop me....not my body. I would say that 10 miles was a block for me....I was really scared of going 10, even though I had…

If MFP is not a healthy thing for you to do, then DO NOT use it. You say that you lost 50 pounds without counting anything, so what you did before obviously worked for you. You can use MFP just for support, for posting topics you want more info on, etc. You do not need to log your food here. Obsessing about calories and…

I use flaxseed oil, take it in capsule form. It has helped to lower my cholesterol, so I'm sticking with it!

People will probably have different opinions on this, but I do not like "diets." What I like is making sure that the food I am putting in my body has nutritional value and is not processed crap. So while I try to stay within a certain number of calories, I am also watching my macros and making sure they are balanced. I…

I'm a little over 5'9", if you want to add me!

flax seed oil (in capsule form) worked for me. I do know, however, that high cholesterol runs in my family, and that it is just a matter of time before I need to take medication. I am not overweight, I exercise a lot, I eat well, but still my numbers rise. Some of this can be out of people's control. I totally get wanting…

Thanks for all the responses.....I think what I will do, since I'm running 13 this weekend, is drag my poor husband out, carrying some water, and have him at certain points in my run that would mimic water station points. I won't take my belt this run and see how it feels. I agree that realistically I should be well…

You will get there if you keep at it! Just do them daily and you will amaze yourself over time....

I have personally never heard of a certain diet being preferable after thyroidectomy. I would imagine the best diet would be the kind they would recommend in a general sense....stay within your alloted calories, and keep your macros in balance. And obviously the less processed, the better...and no simple carbs. :)

Yes! I am currently training for my first half marathon, which is on Sept. 23rd. Just had my longest run ever last Saturday, which was 12 miles. Feel free to add me if you like.

I had the same experience, feel free to add me if you like. I know it's tough to get on track when you are still getting regulated with your tsh levels, but it will happen! After a diagnosis like ours they keep you hyperthyroid for the rest of our lives, so things will calm down. As long as we are taking our medication…
