Does your body have a weight it "likes?"
I know this is probably ridiculous to ask, but is it possible that your body has a certain weight range it "likes" to be at? I am 5'9" , 140lbs, and 21% BF. I know I do not need to really lose more weight, but I wouldn't be opposed to another 5 lbs (I am small framed). Right now my settings are set to .5lb loss per week,…

only work out 2-3x per week?
Hello, I began NROL4W in mid October. I love it, and am very glad that I found the program. My question is this: do most of you adhere to the recommended 2-3 lifting work outs per week, and leave it at that, or do you do other forms of exercise in addition? I know the author advocates for only following the program, and I…

how should I feel after just beginning?
I'm sorry if this topic has been done to death, but I really feel like I need some guidance. I just started, having done Stage 1 A and B workouts each twice (hope that makes sense). I have increased the weight used when I did the workouts for the second time. Here is my question: I do not feel exhausted afterwards. Is that…

NSV - ran my first half marathon!
In the beginning of January, I decided that I wanted to run. I had never run previously, and was never very athletic, so as a consequence I could only run about half a mile. A very slow half a mile. But I stuck with it, even though I hated it in the beginning. But as an MFP friend had told me, there wasn't really any…

Tibia stress fracture
Short story: My doctor feels strongly that I have a stress fracture in my tibia (shin). Fantastic timing, because I am 10 days out from my first half marathon. Doctor and I mutually agreed that I will run the race, and then we'll address the fracture (have not done any imaging yet, his diagnosis is based on exam and…

Please help with my half marathon training plan!
Okay, I am about four weeks out from my first half marathon. I am not a seasoned runner by any means, but have done 5ks and 10ks in the past. So far my longest run has been 12.5 miles, which was last weekend. I completed that without any difficulty, so I feel fairly confident with running the distance of the half (I do not…

Half Marathon: hydration belt?
Question for you runners out there: I am running my first half marathon in a few weeks. For long runs I carry a hydration belt, and I'm trying to decide if I want to wear it for the actual race. Of course they have water along the course, but I'm kind of a control freak and I don't know if there is any benefit to having…

Jogging vs. running
It really bothers me when people say self-depreciating things like, "I'm a jogger, not a runner" just because their pace may not be the fastest. If you are out there running, no matter what your speed, you are a RUNNER. It doesn't matter how fast you go, or how many races you have run (or maybe you've never even run a…

Run Less, Run Faster
Anyone read this book and followed its training guide? 3 runs per week (tempo run, speedwork, and long run) and then 2 days of cross training? Curious to find out if anyone adheres to its philosophy of more focused runs (rather than just going for a certain mileage per week, and a lot of "maintenance" type runs) and what…

hydration belt
I bought a Nathan hydration belt with one bottle that sits on the small of my back, which I can tolerate, but I wonder if there is something better out there. What do other people use? Any suggestions? I tried a hand-held, but I had difficulty with it...felt uncomfortable, I kept switching hands.

percentages
I am currently running as my main form of exercise, with strength training 2x per week. My goal is to complete a half marathon in September (I am a fairly novice runner). Right now my food diary is set at the following: 55% carbs; 25% protein; 20% fat. Can anyone let me know if this seems correct, given that I am currently…

Runners: how do you deal with a mental block?
I am a relatively new runner, training for my first 10k. I find that often my mind stops me long before my body actually needs to stop...it's like I psych myself out with negative thoughts. Any suggestions on how to keep pushing through the psychological side of running long distances? My goal is to run a half marathon in…

NSV - resting heart rate
Today I had my annual physical and discovered that since I started running for exercise, my resting heart rate has dropped to 51. Last year's physical my resting heart rate was 72. Hooray for a healthy heart!

Confused about strength training vs. cardio
Okay, I hope I am able to clearly articulate my question: when I joined MFP, I was a beginner runner, with the goal of completing a half marathon in Sept of this year. I am still working towards that goal, and running 3-4x per week. While I would like to achieve this goal, I am also very interested in building muscle and…

strength before cardio?
I have heard that if you are going to do both strength and cardio in one work out (ie, running and lifting weights), you should do the lifting first, and cardio afterwards. If this is correct, can anyone explain why? I'm just curious more than anything, plus I want to structure my work outs correctly. Thanks for any info…

cold weather running
I hate running on a treadmill, or even on a track, so I try and do all my running outside. For anyone else who runs, what are your opinions on when it is too cold to run? I live in a cold weather state, so during the winter months we can see below zero temps with wind chill (and sometimes even without windchill!). What are…

New to this, looking for friends
The other day I realized that turning 40 is right around the corner, so the time is now to get in shape and hopefully reach one of my ultimate goals: to complete a 1/2 marathon! I never was much in to fitness, but cancer at age 35 made me realize that I have to take care of my body, for myself and my husband and children.…

how much protein?
Hello, I am fairly new to MFP, but have been working on weight loss for some time. Currently I am 5'9" and weigh 138. At this point I am not really looking to lose more weight, but to build muscle. How many grams of protein should I try to be consuming in a day? I have heard so many different things in regard to this; can…
