  • Usually when women gain weight on the birth control pill, it is because the hormones are stimulating their appetite....and they end up eating too much, and gaining weight. If you watch what you eat, you will be fine. The pill can really help with cramps....and exercise actually does, as well.
  • You look great! Congrats on all you have achieved so far!
  • sorry, i don't agree that walking through water stations "cheapens" an effort....I hate running while I'm trying to drink! So you might shave some seconds off your time, but unless you are running to win the thing, does it really matter?
  • Agree with everything that everyone else has said, and maybe it's time to leave the trainer...but I do want to stress that your diet is a HUGE part of whether or not you will see the results you are looking for. You said you see him only 1x per week, so a lot also depends on what you are doing for the other six days of the…
  • Ultimately my goal is to just finish, with it being my first one....but of course I have a time in mind, based off of my 10k finishes. I think what appeals to me about this plan is the focus...I am a mom, work full time, etc...so I want the most out of my work outs that I can get. I am very type A, so when I have a plan to…
  • So would you say that people who are newer to running should not be doing tempo runs/speedwork, and just shoot for maintenance runs a few times a week, with one long run per week? I am so confused as to what to do. I think that my running improves when I do more cross training (I mainly do spinning, swimming, and weights)…
  • so glad to hear it is not a fracture! That is great news. Too bad you don't have access to a pool; are you sure biking is out of the question? I am currently dealing with a pretty bad calf sprain, and cycling doesn't bother it because there is no impact. Have you tried biking with the ankle? If that is out of the question,…
  • If you honestly want to know, I remind myself that I had a natural (medication free) childbirth with a nine pound baby....if I can handle that, I can handle anything!
  • Like someone else said, treadmill running is easier, because some of the work is being done for you. It is very common, when switching from treadmill to outside running, to feel as if all of a sudden you aren't as conditioned. You do need to scale back a bit on distance/speed when you start out on pavement, because your…
  • All you can do is get an x-ray and confirm if it is a fracture; usually when it is pinpoint and sharp, you think fracture....but only the x-ray will tell. Use aleve and ice for now, and try not to put a lot of weight on it. That being said, it is possible that it is NOT a stress fracture. You say that you switched from…
  • I don't really know of a correlation between exercising and modifying diet and UTIs...sometimes women who exercise and sweat a lot could find themselves having more yeast/BV type infections....maybe the same is true for you and UTIs? Since you have a history of them, are you doing preventive measures such as drinking…
  • I can totally see it....you look great! I can definitely tell in your face, and your body as well. Whatever you are doing, keep it up, because it is working!!
  • I know it is hard, but you have to be patient if you want to get to your goal. If you do this in the healthy way, it's going to take time. I wouldn't change what you are doing for awhile and see what happens.
  • It says on your profile that you are breastfeeding...please eat more than 1200 calories, your body really needs fuel.
  • I'm using it only for running. In the summer months I have to have water, especially because my runs are consistently going over an hour. I have never tried a camel back...thanks for the tip!
  • I have a full time job, 45 minute commute each way, a husband, and two young kids. I get up at 4am to exercise. At first it was a struggle to get up that early, but now it is just habit, and I actually like that time of the day....it's peaceful, and I suffer no guilt about time away from my family, because they are all…
  • It would depend where you are starting from....are you already running, or is this just the beginning? If you are new to running, try a program like Couch to 5k. Make sure you get fitted for running shoes at a running speciality store. Don't do too much, too soon, if you are new. If you have already been running, try to…
  • I was never a morning person, but now that I get up to exercise, I find that I really like that time of the day. I get up at 4am, eat a piece of toast with peanut butter, drink a full glass of water, some coffee, and then go for a run. Sometimes I am half way through the run before I even feel like I am fully awake! It's…
  • I know it is hard, but you just have to ignore them. You know that you are just taking care of yourself and being healthy. Just smile and say you want to get healthy for future babies....if they are truly Italian Mothers, that will shut them up, because I am positive they are itching for grandbabies! (I come from an…
  • FreeJenni, I give you an 8...you have nice eyes. :)
  • It really depends on your body and how you feel, but it might help to decide what is your priority. If running is the priority right now, than make that your focus. You can (and should) still strength train, but you may want to tailor those work outs to things that will help your running (lots of core work, lunges, etc).…
  • Honestly, when I feel like that, I take a second to remind myself just how fortunate I really am to have a healthy body, to be able to move and do the things I want to do (when so many people in the world can't), and that it's a waste of time in life to beat myself up over a few extra pounds, some cellulite, etc.
  • We don't have tv, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Well, I should clarify: we do own a tv, but do not receive any reception to it...we use it to watch dvds occassionally. Can't say I miss it, and my kids don't, either.
  • Training for a half marathon in September.
  • sounds like IT band, but I also think you should go to the doctor to make sure....you don't want to mess around with knee pain, you are doing so awesome with your running you don't want to cause any damage that sidelines you! Just get it checked to make sure. Do you foam roll on a regular basis? That has really helped me a…
  • That is fantastic! Great job!
  • I see on your profile that you quit smoking. That is a HUGE accomplishment, and in my opinion, a more pressing thing to do than lose weight. So you gained some weight while quitting, but that's okay. You will lose it. Be so proud of yourself that you are no longer smoking cigarettes! That being said, I would love to give…
  • Totally wear that bikini to the beach!!!! You look fantastic. Seriously.
  • You are amazing! Congratulations on every thing you have achieved...we all know how hard it can be, and you are a superstar! You look great.
  • Progesterone and appetite stimulation is the reason women think IUDs cause weight gain....it's because they start eating more, without even realizing it! I went through it when I had my Mirena put in about six months ago, so I understand what you are going through....if you need to nibble, just make sure it is on low…
