I'm not hiding. I'm just up to my eyeballs in books because I still have the NSCA CSCS test this month. And that isn't the VO2 Max. That is the VO2 (volume of oxygen consumed) for this particular exercise. VO2 Max can't be extrapolated from this because it is not a standardized test, just a workout. This is an estimation…

Okay, looking at the first graph, this looks like a standard HR response to interval training, with the exception of the drop at the 8:20 mark. I'm guessing here, but it looks to me like there was some interference in the monitor reading your heart rate at that point. If it is having trouble reading a heart rate at one…

Okay, here's the math. VO2 (ml/kg/min) = (0.2)(5.6)(26.8) + (0.9)(5.6)(26.8)(0) + 3.5 = 30.016 + 0 + 3.5 = 33.516 ml/kg/min METs = 33.516 / 3.5 = 9.576 METs kg = 130 / 2.2046 = 58.96761317 kg kcal/min = 0.0174 x 9.576 x 58.96761317 = 9.881792615 kcal/min kcal/hour = 9.881792615 x 60 = 592.9075569 Calories burned from this…

Yes, you will get a reading, but it won't be accurate. It will give you an estimate based on an average heart rate and not based on time at each level. Laboratory testing has proven that interval training actually increases the oxygen consumption of the exercise (and therefore the Calorie expenditure) to a greater level…

Okay, just double checked and Crestor isn't one of the antilipidemic agents that can effect heart rate.

Also, you can't use a heart rate monitor to estimate calorie burns from resistance or interval training. They are only designed for steady state cardio. We were taught to use a METs compendium for that and for anyone on medications to estimate calorie burns. And for your running, I would use the ACSM running formula to get…

What are you taking for your cholesterol? Are you taking any other medications besides your cholesterol medication? Depending on what you are taking, there can be a heart rate effect, especially if your doctor was trying a combination therapy to lower your high resting heart rate at the same time.

Leslie Winkle. Intelligent but not socially inept, and kind of a smart @ $ $.

Two blondes are walking in the woods and come across some tracks. The first blonde says, "I think those are bear tracks." The second blonde says, "No, I think those are deer tracks." The first blonde says, "No, those are definitely bear tracks." A little louder this time, the second blonde says, "No, I'm positive those are…

Oh, he's not a trainer, he's a Creeper. I've dealt with creepers at the gym. They get so close you are afraid you're going to hit them with your weights. Actually, going a little extra with the range of motion and actually hitting them with your weights is a good way to deal with them. LOL

The no sweating thing must be a new recommendation. I wasn't told that for either of mine. I also couldn't cover with gauze because tape, band aids, etc. break me out in a rash. I still taught all my classes and did all my workouts with no ill effects to my tattoos. Personally, I'd recommend calling another tattoo studio…

The above are great recommendations. Is there a workout room in your apartment complex? A lot of them have them that are free for residents. If so, go straight from work and get it in before you go home to relieve your husband of his child watch duties.

Focus on strengthening the glutes and IT band. Donkey kicks and the abductor machine would be my first recommendations. Also, have your gait analyzed and your shoes fitted accordingly. And definitely do the stretching with the foam roller. It doesn't have to be a life long problem with the right physical therapy regimen.

I actually like it when they stare. That's when I get to show off that I can lift more then they can. Actually, whats funny is when I bust out a set of heavy bench presses and then watch their faces in the mirror as I do pec pops. I can only do pec pops after a heavy bench workout because I need the muscle pump to…

Jillian Michaels should be slapped for telling people to do this workout everyday! The problem is that you aren't giving your muscles adequate rest and are causing overuse injuries. Take a couple of days off and then alternate days with weights so that you can get over the over training syndrome.

I ask how long they will be and decide from their answer as to whether I will wait or go ahead and do something else. I also stay on my machine or bench until I'm done with my sets. As was posted above, too much racking and re-racking weights will make it slower then just finishing the sets. Also, wipe down the benches and…

As my professors would tell you, "Fat burns in a carbohydrate flame." You don't burn just one or the other. You have to have both at all times depending on what you are doing. The determining factors for what you are burning are the intensity and duration of your exercise, not what you've just eaten. High intensity and…

Talk to the mother, teach your daughter to punch A-holes like that in the face, and if it doesn't stop ASAP file charges. That is sexual assault. It is a crime punishable by time in jail or, in this case, juvenile detention. I know this because the punk who touched my daughter inappropriately on the bus spent a year there.…

I tore my patella tendon a couple of years ago and treated it with physical therapy. Basically, weight training and kinesiotape. Took about 3-4 months to heal completely. The secret is in continuing the weight training after the normal physical therapy time is over. Because of strengthening the muscles of the knee and the…

I've been a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor for almost 16 years. In that time I've taken specialty certifications in various modalities and specific class types like yoga, Pilates, pre- and post-natal exercise, etc. I've also just completed my bachelors in exercise physiology, so I've seen both…

My dogs and cats will all eat anything I'm eating. Even if I have a salad on my plate, they will eat it because I do. All I have to do is leave a plate unattended and they will finish it off for me. Needless to say, the toxic foods are stored in the pantry where they can't get to them and plates are taken straight to the…

No matter which method you choose to track your body fat, it will be off by 2-12%. 2% is more for the Bio-Electrical Impedance and 12% is more for the online calculators. So, whether you pick the BEI or go online and use a measurement formula, just pick one method that you can do every month and stick with that same…

My husband is 4 years younger then me and we've been together for 12 years, married for almost 11. Prior to this I was married to an older (10 years) man for 5 years. He was definitely more immature then my current husband. After my divorce, my Mother told me that I needed a man young enough to train (my Dad is 7 years…

It depends on how tied to the scale you are and how much you want your arms to look good in that dress. (I'm assuming you have a sleeveless dress with a June wedding.) Personally, I'd throw out the scale and hit the weights. Combining the weights with your marathon training can keep you from gaining as much in lean tissue…

I'll be 40 in a little over a month.

Hey! I'm actually moving to Tampa in the next couple of months. I love the city, and especially being close to the beach, but I'm technically moving there to go for my masters in exercise science at the University of South Florida. I can't wait to get there. Anyway, good luck on your journey!

We did them with Angel Food Cake Mix instead of the yellow cake mix to make them completely fat free for a party in cardiac rehab and served with fat free Cool Whip for the topping instead of making the topping. OMG! YUM!

Where are you getting the BMR number? Different formulas will estimate it differently, so I highly recommend getting it professionally estimated (either in a lab or via a nutritionist or exercise physiologist) and then reset the goals on MFP accordingly. If you don't have access to someone who can give you accurate Calorie…

If you are lifting weights, you need to give that body part a rest the next day. The muscle needs 48 hours after lifting to recover. This is why most experienced weight lifters alternate body parts in their workout plans so that they can workout daily without over training one muscle group. Cardio and stretching, however,…

I don't use a HRM because I'm asthmatic and have to use medications and caffeine, which will increase my heart rate and cause a HRM to overestimate Calorie burns. I was taught in my degree to use METs instead of a HRM for Calorie estimates because most people consume caffeine or are on a medication that affects heart rate.…
