I'm 5'6 and am now 154, which is just under a BMI of 25. I can't actually imagine myself on the lower end of my healthy BMI so would be more than happy to get down to 145lbs... but will those last pounds shift?! Nope...

I found - by logging it ALL - that my "catch-all" was actually more around the 700 cal mark - and therein lay my problem! I now log it all. The 3 bits of popcorn I had round a friends house and realised I didn't like them, so stopped eating? Logged. The 2 forkfuls of pasta bolognaise that my kids had left and couldn't…

yup - today was eating out for lunch... and I have been rather lax on the veg, thinking about it, for the past few weeks. Right - more veg, fewer processed carbs. I actually can't wait to be able to get down the gym too - never thought I'd say that! I think it may be the only way forward really... and if it has no effect,…

I forgot about that! Yes, I am 32 going on 3. If I'm at home, I will actually cross my arms and stomp too, whilst informing my husband that I'm having a stampy-footy tantrum. If it's good enough for my toddler to vent her anger and frustration, it's good enough for me... just not in public. I also talk to my mirror.…

sorry! I was "friends only"... I've changed it now. Be kind! :-D

when I started out, I realised I was drinking far too much coffee, so I do now only drink one at breakfast (which I always have - apart from the last 2 days for some reason!). I almost certainly don't drink enough water during the day, but I never have done throughout my life, so for me, the 8 glasses is just an…

I go out into the garden and prune it senseless... well, actually, I do that when I'm happy too! Think about whether your reaction is to do with your mouth, your hands or getting away from the situation (so in your current case, going to the pantry or Starbucks or wherever). If it's about consuming things, then find…

I've always eaten healthily too - I don't have a sweet tooth, so yes, most of my changes were to do with portion size and choice of snacks.. At the end of the day, any change needs to be workable long term. It's not just about losing weight but also about training yourself (mind and body) to live healthily - exercise every…

I can relate to that! As the others have said, don't cut your calories back too much - 1600 to 1800 would be ideal - because at the moment, you're probably needing another 500 just to breastfeed. Once bubs is established on solids and isn't feeding so much, you could drop that to 300 extra. I just manually adjusted my…

ach, I feel for you! Just remember, "they" do say 9 months on, 9 months off, and that's actually a good guide (if slightly hopeful!). You'll notice your tummy shrink over the next few weeks and it'll be almost back to normal at around 6 months PP, if not before. 10 weeks is still very early! If you're breastfeeding,…

How many calories were you eating before you started cutting back (ie how many were normal for you)? What's your BMR? What's your maintenance number of Calories? I really don't believe anyone should just drop to the minimum "healthy" amount. I'm eating 1550 +/- 100 every day and have lost a steady amount. My BMR is around…

I've seen/heard that you shouldn't count fizzy drinks (like Coke, lemonade, etc) as water... BUT I have natural fizzy water and add a squeeze of lemon in it and count that - 0 calorie lemonade with no added extras!

Yeah, I ought to enter my recipe for that into the builder. I'm sure it's going to be horrendous! I love Christmas pudding too though... they look so innocent and small (well, they do to me at least!) and then I look on the pack of the shop-bought ones and keel over - you've meant to have a wafer-thin slice and not "a…

I was exactly the same - a bit here, a bite there, finish up the kids' leftovers, etc... and that was the problem. For a week before making changes I logged everything, warts and all, even if it was half a yoghurt, a biscuit or a half-finished coffee. It turned out, my random snacking added up to around 700 calories each…

that's interesting! All the more so that we use a lot of cinnamon in our hugely calorific Christmas cakes and puddings!

thanks for the replies, guys! I have to say, I've found these recipes very sweet, but put it down to them originally being American - us Brits may well have more of a savoury tooth! I reckon I could drop 1/4 of the sugar pretty easily. I could also drop at least half the frosting these recipes call for! Substituting with…

has anyone mentioned melting it as a sauce? Great with fish and mushrooms.

vinaigrettes are so easy to do. More or less equal quantities of oil and vinegar, a bit of salt and pepper and a good mix and you;re done. You can also try adding a spoonful of mustard or some herbs to vary it, as well as using some interesting vinegars - not sure if you've seen them, but you can get small bottles of…

I have the same issue. I don't think it's actually cellulite, but just a lot of fine stretch marks that have got closer together since our bumps disappeared! As for whether it'll go entirely, well, who knows?! My tummy's certainly flat now (or rather as much as it was pre-kids) but yes, isn't looking that toned under the…

I think it's all the more important when you are "watching" (limiting) your calories to cut the junk simply in order to make every single bit of food count - so the best quality, the most nutrients, etc... BUT, yes, once in a while (or even every few days) a good old greasy, junky treat is soooo good! My lunches usually…

Don't lose heart! Just as you're sticking to your exercise, dedicate some time to your food diary for a week and just enter in the warts-and-all version of what you're actually eating (including measuring your food) - without trying to "be good". I kicked off my weight loss with this and found that I was eating the…

Indeed, I know it's rather academic - and know full well that "sweating" isn't a form of exercise in its own right... if only it was - saunas would be inundated with people! It just struck me that it's evident that a body burns more calories to sweat (and regulate its temperature) whilst doing an activity - whatever the…

I tend to leave housework for as long as possible and then give it a good blitz with lots of elbow-grease! My exercise log is so terribly dull - cleaning, shopping, driving (yes, all in the database!) and childcare! I'm going to have access to a gym soon though, so it'll be goodbye cleaning, hello gym!

7 weeks is so very early to consciously be trying to diet. My best advice is not to make any cuts to your own nutrition unless you are totally happy with the idea that it could mean your breastfeeding days come to an abrupt end. I wouldn't recommend anyone does it - baby's needs come first, I'm afraid... our vanity can…

I'm doing exactly the same as you, Mummynor - same frequency, same age baby! I've added 200 calories over what MFP has suggested, which brings me up to 1550 per day and I'm losing well on it. I did drop to 1450 and was "really good" but it made me plateau, so I bumped it up again! I haven't noticed any drop in supply and…

That's 2lb a week for 15 weeks, every single week, no plateaus, no slacking, pushing your body to the limit of starvation mode. Honestly? It sounds unhealthy and not a fun thing to do at all. Life's to short to be doing things that aren't fun. Your body could rebel if you stick it suddenly on 1200 cals and you wouldn't…
-
So true. It's been raised in the suggestions forum already, but I really feel there's a need for MFP to show a goal RANGE of calories - maybe 100 above and below your target, so that it doesn't change to a horrid, negative, "dangerous" red as soon as you eat 1 calorie over your goal.
-
I've lost my 11lbs over the course of 10 weeks (with 3/4 weeks on a plateau - gar!) through changes to my diet alone - and eating around 1500 cals a day. I'm a stay-at-home mum with two very small children, so have bouts of very physical "work" (cardio and weights - lol!) but can't get to the gym nor go out for a run on my…

I make my porridge with jumbo rolled oats (so they are much chunkier, not the dust-like oatmeal!), full fat milk and... that's it. Keeps me going from 7h until lunchtime. Oh, and a coffee. The whole thing comes to about 350 calories.

yeah - lol - the placenta, fluid and baby alone weigh 14lbs! Your doctor sounds a bit off the mark, tbh - the normal weight gain is around 10-15kg, so about 20-30lbs and midwives (the ones who actually look after the health of pregnant women in the UK) know this are aren't obsessed about weight gain. I put on around 18kg…
