I gave up my time. I used to have tons of free time to just lounge around, knit, watch tv, read, whatever. Now I go to the gym. I can't make plans on MWF because those are my gym evenings, and my plans on Saturday often start with telling someone "Well I'm going to the gym first, so it'll have to be a little later." And…

That is usually what I do. You have to pack it up to put it away don't you? I usually split my soups up into individual servings just after making them. That way the calorie count is right, plus I have grab-and-go meals.

A rule I follow for myself is that I don't start anything I can't maintain. I'm not going to set my calorie goal at a level that's going to make me hungry and cranky all the time, because that is a recipe for failure. I'd rather lose half a pound a week and actually maintain it long-term than lose weight quicker but drop…

I haven't read any of the replies yet, but personally I am irritated with Subway because they advertise their healthiness, and have all these commercials showing fat people biting into hamburgers and busting their buttons/breaking their chairs/etc, and then they display a sandwich that actually has more calories in it than…

Congratulations! Also, I gotta say, I absolutely LOVE the Hulk Hogan costume.

I always use them for soup. Shred it up and put it in with some veggies and chicken stock and rice/pasta. I also have made this chipotle chili with a rotisserie chicken: http://budgetbytes.blogspot.com/2012/10/chipotle-chicken-chili-or-c3-951-recipe.html

It's really an individual thing. But probably somewhere around 10-20 pounds per size is typical for most people. It depends on where you carry your weight, where you lose it from, how tall you are, how tight you wear your clothes, etc. I've gone down 4-5 sizes in 68 pounds, so around 15 pounds per size.

I'm doing the Lilac 5k in May. We have a HUGE 10 day Lilac Festival here, and the race closes it out. There's also a 10k option depending on how far I progress by then. I can run 5k now, but slow, so I'm working mostly on speed.

I was responding to the OP's reluctance to report this nurse for fear of hurting her career. As a fellow pharmacist, you should know as well as I do that the consequences of being reported for a drug-related offense (and convicted) would be the loss of her job and license for sure. If the OP is unwilling to report her…

If you really like her, tell her that you are going to report her in x amount of time. It won't be easy to do, but it would be the kindest thing in the long run. She can seek help without losing her license this way. Assuming nursing works the same way as my profession (pharmacy), the rules are if you turn yourself in and…

Nuts CAN be a healthy addition to a diet, but if someone is worried about going over on calories, I would say that adding almonds is probably not a good idea. The serving size for nuts is quite small, and the calorie content is high, so they can be a tricky thing for someone who is just starting out to try to work into…

That's so funny, I just logged on to log my dinner of spaghetti squash and I saw this thread on the side! Here's what I made, it was based on a recipe I found in the newspaper a couple days ago. Spicy Spaghetti Squash with Sausage 1 medium spaghetti squash 1 can black beans, drained 1 can corn, drained 1 can diced…

Then you should check out dresslikeapirate.com for really awesome pirate clothes that aren't all "the captain's treasure" and such. It's a small store in Portland I think, and they only stock quality stuff.

This for sure. At the beginning I really didn't want people to notice... what if I failed, and then I let everyone down? Now that I'm over a year into it and I'm more confident it doesn't bother me quite as much when people notice. For that reason anyway. I still don't like that simply by losing weight it's like my body…

Yeah I call bull**** on that one as well. The ONLY thing equal to 7 "plates" of fruits and vegetables is 7 actual plates of fruits and vegetables (which would be too much, by the way, it is possible). Even vitamin supplements are inferior to actually eating fruits and vegetables. Here's a good rule: "If it sounds too good…

A lot of people seem to think that fake boobs always "look fake" and are noticeable and gross. I suspect that the people saying this probably actually seen hundreds of women with breast implants but not realized it because they look normal, so they think "breast implants look fake" because they only NOTICE the fake-looking…

Around 25-30 pounds (10%) before a few friends started noticing it. After about 40 pounds (15%) people who it was REALLY none of their business started making comments. It's a touchy subject though so I think a lot of people even if they notice don't say anything, especially if they're not sure. I've been asked "You look…

That is the song we are walking down the aisle to! :) One of the most romantic songs ever.

Find a good tailor. Way cheaper than buying all new clothes, especially if you find someone with a home business, they tend to be cheaper because they have low/no overhead. It only works for so long though. Mine says if you can pull up enough fabric on a pair of pants that the pockets touch in the back, it is not alterable…

Work out at whatever time feels right for you. There is no hard and fast rule. The most important thing is actually doing it. For example if you hate getting up early, don't think you're going to maintain a gym habit that requires you to get up early. Why set yourself up to be miserable, or worse, to fail? Make it as easy…

Ok so it's got a lot of other stuff besides sweet potatoes, but it's delicious and it's totally in season right now. Apple kielbasa Bake Makes 6 servings 4 cups Brussels sprouts, halved 1 large red onion, cut into chunks 16-ounce turkey/chicken kielbasa, sliced in 1/2-inch-thick rounds 2 large sweet potatoes, cut into…

I love it when any place posts nutrition information. Especially since in a restaurant you REALLY don't know what you're getting. Stuff might sound healthy but you have no idea what ingredients they use. I've been to places where you can have an 800 calorie burger or a 1400 calorie salad, and you wouldn't know the burger…

Depends on what your needs are. If all you want is access to a treadmill/weight machines, you can get that at planet fitness for super cheap. If you want classes and other stuff then yeah it's not a good choice, but it's fine for somebody at a very basic level, and may even be better for people who are intimidated by…

To be fair, Teavana does have a few good teas, you just have to only buy the plain tea and avoid their fancy blends, which are always too weak for me. I have bought oolong, green, and black from them and all have been good. I'm not a fan of the actual store though, I think they're too pushy and too intense about the…

The point is, it'd be nice to not have to worry about resorting to various measures to prevent it, and have it just not happen instead.

At least for me it's simply I want to be able to wear dresses without having to wear stockings/shorts/leggings to keep from chafing. Couldn't care less what it LOOKS like. It's not about vanity, it's a practical thing.

Two things I want to weigh in on: First, tea counts as water. Coffee counts as water. Coca Cola counts as water. Lettuce counts as water. Rice counts as water. All of these things add to the amount of water in your body to a greater or lesser extent. The question is, how much extra stuff do you want coming along with it?…

Set your goals to maintain your weight rather than lose during your vacation. 10 days isn't going to set you back that far when we're talking a long-term lifestyle change, and you want to be able to enjoy yourself on your vacation! Try to schedule some exercise-centric vacation activities, like hiking or biking or swimming…

I was amazed after getting my food scale at how much more than a cup you can fit into a measuring cup. It's pretty easy to be 10% inaccurate and if you're cutting calories by 10-20% to achieve weight loss, you can sabotage that goal pretty easily with inaccurate measurements. Yes, you can solve that by erring on the side…

I was super intimidated about joining a gym, but I sucked it up and joined Planet Fitness. It's cheap, $30 start-up plus $10 a month and an annual maintenance fee, and it's super no-frills, but most importantly it was actually pretty welcoming. The staff at the front desk has been nothing but sweet to me, and there are…
