Nuts? Yes. But it can be done. I just wouldn't recommend it. A few of the ladies that have responded on this thread have rocked their first trail 50k's - but I also know what their training history and running background was like. I did my first trail 50k last year and it humbled me big time. I didn't run on trails…

Yeah, eat those exercise calories back or use the TDEE method. I am getting dizzy thinking of eating that little while training for a longer distance race. As mentioned earlier, it would suck eating only 1200 calories on a rest day the day before a long run day. I say this and I'm under 5' and weigh a little over 100…

Love this! No need to eliminate and/or avoid one particular type of food source. The whole point of this is that moderation, or some sort of balance of macros, is the key to weight management and health. One good thing to note is that OP's sugar doesn't always come from natural sources. He regularly eats ice cream and…

The FItBit is a nice little gadget to help you with maintenance. 1400 sounds about right if you're sedentary and at 5'2". But then again, the FitBit, calculators, etc. are all estimates. The metabolism test you take at hospitals might be a good bet if you're worried about your calorie needs.

^^This! Respect the training and the distance and you'll have an awesome first marathon. Consistency is key. ITBS is one of the most common running injuries. It can be prevented by not doing too much too soon, good shoes, a good strength training routine, and regular massages/yoga/foam rolling etc. Good luck and have fun!

^^. This. Greek yogurt and herbs are a good, creamy way to get some tang in your dips!

Hi. What kind of fat do you use to bake them? I know the salt makes a difference but a lighter tasting olive oil can make it taste less bitter. Garlic or onion powder will actual sweeten and balance the taste out. I kinda like mine spicy, and found it also helps to counter the bitterness. Some simple chili powder and/or…

Yeah, I learned the hard way, that it's not "just 5 more miles" if your 50k is a trail race. My very first one was a trail race and was in some of the most difficult terrain you could find in my state. In hindsight, I wish I trained more on similar trails or at least made a few trips to the actual course. My training…

Mmmm! Can't beat a caprese sammie!

Yes, I hear it's more of a fun run. You'll be fine. C25k is an excellent plan btw.

It happens to me too. A week before hand I get really lethargic and my runs feel like an all out effort. During a race it sucks because I feel heavier and bloated... Just try to drink even more water than usual.

This. LOL! I kid, I kid. It's also Sunday Fun Day for me, so I'm just going to enjoy the game and most importantly enjoy my company. I dont deprive myself any other time of the week so Super Bowl Sunday won't be any different.

GO girl!!! Losing weight is hard, but it definitely is not harder than keeping it off. More people gain weight back by relying on quick fixes vs. developing life long changes. Thus making it a lifestyle of yo-yo dieting. You look awesome! Here's to a lifetime of keeping the weight off! :drinker:

How did I miss this? These are realistic goals I am looking to accomplish in the year 2014: My number one goal is to run injury free (I'm currently on a 3 year injury free streak). Continue with a yearly mileage of 2000+ miles Everything else: 5:10 50k Sub 4 marathon (PR is 4:13) Sub 1:50 half (PR is 1:55 racing after my…

MFP already puts you at a deficit when it gives you their calorie goal based on your activity level, age, height, etcetera. You can "eat back" those calories because you're still eating at deficit that will produce weight loss. However, if you go by the TDEE method, which also takes into account your average exercise plus…

Whatever works for you. I personally don't. I don't even own a scale. The scale only represents one part of the overall picture and weight can fluctuate way too much everyday.

The FitBit is awesome! Only gripe I have is that they are so flimsy. I went through three of them already. Debating getting another one. I liked it that you can sync it with your iPhone and easily view your reports on the go. If anything, though, it's like a sup'd up pedometer. You'd have to tweak the stride length to get…

Yep, you rocked that *****! :-) This is exactly how a perfect race should go, especially a first one. So so awesome that it was also such a good experience for you. Today was also just the perfect conditions, and all the stars and all your training and hard work aligned. CONGRATS!!!!

+1 to this. I am an avid runner who used to think I could just run and eat what I wanted. Well, that is why I came here to MFP originally. :-) Since then I've found a healthy relationship/balance between the two. I can't just run my 50 miles and then eat 60 miles worth of food. Granted, I can eat more than most but…

Just like with anything you absolutely can't give up while trying to lose weight, don't give it up. Enjoy it in moderation. You can still find a way to enjoy it while fitting it into your daily calorie needs and macros. Now, drinking 1300 calories worth of liquor might not be nutritionally sound, but you'd still lose…

+1 to this! Not only is exercise good for your health, it's also great for your looks. Strength training and some cardio will definitely do wonders for your body composition.

I have. Last year. I did Dallas. I HATED it. Soooo totally disorganized. There was poor communication from the event staff. It was held in Downtown Dallas, and they failed to tell us about road exits/closures, so traffic was backed up for miles. I remember sitting there thinking I could take a certain exit, but after…
