  • I know different things work for different people, but losing a half pound is more of a realistic goal if you're already small and don't have a lot of weight to lose. If you're pretty sedentary, it's not unheard of to go below that 1200 calorie goal. That's why petite ladies have to work much harder to lose it and keep it…
  • Goals? Stay injury free and make the time goals I didn't make this year. LOL! Damnit. Oh, and finally tackle the shorter distances (1 mile, 5k, and 10k). I'm scared of shorter races. I've also been saying for years that I've been wanting to get to race weight so maybe that will happen in 2015.
  • For what it's worth, I'm not an averaged size adult (pretty short, under 5') but I have been maintaining at about 2000 calories a day with the amount of exercise I do. I used to wear a FitBit and it was pretty close to all the TDEE calculators out there. Hope that helps!
  • Take the numbers with a grain of salt. A HRM is a pretty good estimator. It takes your current body weight into account and that 2400 is probably close to your TDEE, which spans 24 hours. You're always burning calories, even when you sleep. So yeah, that's why the "average intake" for most adults is about 2000 calories a…
  • Ha! Didn't realize this thread came back. Thanks all. And latest update - I'm still the same weight. maintenance is just as hard as losing.
  • CONGRATS! You did a solid job, even with the cold and the conditions. Must've been a great feeling passing people along the last few miles, uphill too!
  • LOL. Yeah. I had a friend who would often smoke after his races. He started running not too long ago and he still beat me in his first marathon. It was funny because I have a pic of him lighting up his cigarette after his race. :-) I don't condone it, but, yeah, it happens. :-)
  • I don't and didn't smoke, but I still suck at running. LOL. :-) But, I do know plenty of folks who've been able to knock out some impressive running while still smoking. Then guess what? When they finally did quit, they were even more awesome!!! Just work your way into it - it sounds like it's more about you not being in…
  • LOVE this!!!! Jello shots and trampolines?!!!! :-)
  • Amazing! What a difference a few pounds makes. Y'all look years younger now. Congrats on all your success!
  • Woohooo! Congrats!!! Sounds like it was a solid race!
  • You look like a completely different person. In fact, you look younger now - like the son of the guy in the left pic. :-) Congrats on getting off your meds and all your success!
  • Wow!! You look amazing! Congrats on your success, and cheers to maintenance! :drinker:
  • This is not a teeny tiny success at all! This is your health and your body and you should celebrate it! Congrats!
  • Congratulations! And on a tough course!!!!
  • April of next year? I think you should assess your fitness a little before the actual race. Right now with your 5k times and mileage, I'm thinking 2:15ish is more realistic. But, as you continue with your mileage base, train, and gain fitness, you'll get a better feel for your time next year. Do a longer race before your…
  • I don't keep it a secret at all. :-)
  • Take it from older folks, you'll appreciate it as you get older. :-) Embrace your youth and your looks. Use it to your advantage. I am 38 and in some jobs I've held, people's first impressions were that I looked too young to have enough experience to do the task at hand. I still get carded when I buy alcohol. Last guy…
  • Those damn Pepperidge Farm booty calls!!!! :-)
  • Having a time goal for your 2nd half is a great idea! You know how the distance feels like now, and assuming you've done more training since the first, it's always a good goal to beat your last time. I would say, race with as even of an effort as possible. If your race has some hills you might not hit that exact pace on…
  • I never trained specifically for a mile before, but I do agree with the benefits behind just running more, and consistently, over time. Running a mile full out scares the bejeezus out of me, but the last time I tried running a mile as fast as I could, I was pushing a pace I never thought was possible for me. It just came…
  • Made pork and ginger dumplings. Tried the dough myself: Pansit Palabok - a Filipino rice noodle dish made with shrimp sauce and topped with ground pork and ground chicciarones: Filipino Brunch - Garlic fried rice, sweet and spicy longanisa (pork sausage), fried eggs, and a spicy white vinegar dip:
  • +1 to getting something like a FitBit if you're that active. I highly doubt it's 7000 calories - you don't look like an extremely big person.
  • Best one I saw was a dude who looked naked, only wearing a sign over his privates, and it said "Run faster or I drop the sign!" LOL!!! Made me smile and pushed me through my race. He was actually hot so I was about to slow down and tell him to drop it! :-)
  • CONGRATS! :-)
  • LOL! Sad that a BJ has to be a "reward". Women should love giving it to their partners on the regular? Y'all make it sound like a chore. :-)
  • Some people should just not pro-create. I can't believe people can be such toxic *kitten* and *****es to their own flesh and blood. Cut her off. Let her deal with her issues on her own - not use you as a punching bag.
  • I'm really sorry to say this, but be patient. How long did it take you to gain weight? I'm betting it wasn't exactly overnight. It's only been 3 weeks. Go see a doctor if measuring and weighing your food to the tee is not working for you.
  • LOL! Right? :-) In all seriousness, I am guilty of a lot of these. Thanks for posting!
  • ^^This. Listen to the guy with the chiseled bod. ;-) Seriously, for weight loss alone, calories are just calories. Sure, you'll get more bang for your buck with more nutrient dense foods, but as long as you're eating at a deficit, you'll see weight loss. For health reasons, watching your fat, cholesterol, and sodium levels…
