  • I tested the BMR figures against several calculators out there. The one method I prefer the most is called Katch-McArdle because it actually uses your lean body mass (only useful if you are always up to date on your actual body fat percentage) instead of your weight. We all know the more muscular you are the faster you…
  • Tracking macros should be by percentage of what you have eaten, not a set number of what you're allowed to eat. What if your goals are set at 1400 calories with an allowance of 140 carbs. What if you are running around crazy all day and don't get in all of your 1400 calories, and instead end up at 1180 calories for the…
  • Definitely like the sound of this.... So, I for one started by calculating my BMR on the MFP Tools and got 1450. Then I set my goals to readjust using Maintain current weight setting at sedentary (yup, accurate...I live in a 5 ft cubicle) and and 0 exercise and 0 calorie burn for 1800 maintenance calories. A difference of…
  • 20% and lower.
  • Here's what I did....and it killed two birds with one stone. I like salty foods. I salt everything. Well, you can imagine what my sodium was starting to look like. Well, I went looking for a salt substitute and found this stuff at the grocery store next to the little salt shakers called Nu-Salt. It's great, and low and…
  • Almost 8 years post op here. Life does get back to normal. Suddenly you won't define yourself by the fact that you had surgery. People won't remember you as being that big girl because so many new people and experiences will come in and out of your life. Today I use this website as anyone else does...to moderate myself…
  • Greek yogurt hands down. A good quality plain fat free Greek yogurt boast a whopping 23 grams and tastes like cheesecake if you add some lemon juice, vanilla extract and Splenda! Give it a shot!
  • The number I calculated to eat at is 1900 calories. That is the 300 less than what it told me. The problem is I was crash dieting before. I had my mfp set at 1,000 and maybe was getting in 800. Over the last weeks I have increased it gradually and now eat around 1200-1400 daily, but haven't seen any scale losses, except i…
  • Also on the new rules of lifting for women bandwagon and I have learned so much in the last few days reading this book. When I started mfp 7 weeks ago I had my goals modified to 1,000 calories a day, of which if I ate 800 I was lucky. I did eat at min 65 g of protein even then though trying to maintain minimal muscle loss.…
  • Here's what the trainer told me at the gym, and I was in the same boat. Cardio 5-6 times a week for 60-90 mins and maybe some crunches in the mix. Well, in calculating a months worth of body fat % loss, the 15 pounds I had lost broke down as 8 pounds from fat and 7 pounds from muscle. Every pound of muscle in your body…
  • Try being a woman who has to remove a ton of weight off of each piece of equipment just to lift, then feels out of respect or obligation she better put the weight back the way she got it. Makes moving on to your next exercise a lot more time consuming.

  • I got my book, I got my book! I'm uber freaking excited now. I can start! Well, tomorrow that is. Tonight it's my birthday and my MFP isn't going to like me very much.
  • Oh my! I'll freak if I'm supposed to eat that many calories. Seriously? I want to lose fat still, shouldn't I maintain a deficit?
  • prelog your workouts and make sure you achieve the calorie burn before you hit the sack. You will then have all day to spread out the calories appropriately but wont be doing damage by eating too much right before bed.
  • Recalculate your calorie requirements telling MFP that you have an active or very active lifestyle then instead of sedentary and it will increase your calories to eat. Then, no need to log exercise because you will be eating all the net calories you should be taking the workouts into consideration.
  • bump because I want to know too. If I don't go to the gym at 4 in the morning before my kids lives begin, I never will
  • Even when I had just had the gastric bypass and was only eating 500-1000 calories a day I was required to get a minimum 65 grams of protein just so I didn't lose hair and get sickly. Now at a normal weight 8 years later I stick to a 1200 calorie diet and eat at minimum 100 grams of protein a day. My macros have been…
  • Don't have an answer, but very curious about the responses. I don't know how much smaller my top can get before the bottom has no choice left, but I'm definitely not proportionate.
  • I'm getting new rules for women this Thursday if it's the last thing I do. Just have to make it to payday. :)
  • I am right there with you. I did my body fat percentage right after I completed my first month, and found out I had lost nearly pound for pound the same amount of muscle as I had fat. I was so upset. Now I know my loss of muscle means my metabolism is decreasing, and while I still have pounds to shed my face, arms,…
  • I wanted to add one other thing, and it is something you will eventually achieve. People have gone from not only commenting about the foods I eat and eating things in front of me, to the point where my skinny best friend actually made some cheesy, sausage potato quiche and posted a pic of it on Facebook with a comment…
  • Try going to the in-laws and attempt to count calories. Oy. I have one of those amazing authentic Mexican mother in laws who makes spanish rice and beans with everything and hubby just gives me that look when I go to grab my phone that says "don't you dare you will insult her." So, instead, I just have to act incredibly…
  • Thanks to all for the encouragement. I like that I am in the best shape of my life, but I'm more excited now than ever to see what I'm capable of. What's great is that it's my body to do as I please with, and with the many programs available I am capable of experimenting to obtain not only what looks best on me, but what…
  • One of my biggest fears and backsliding and defeating the purpose of all my hard work. I admit I'm an all or nothing kind of person, at least until something becomes routine....and that's just how it's got to be.
  • Agreed! I think the fact that I do refuse to do things I used to is what get's upsetting. Like I'm now taking away from them too because they only want to spend time with me doing the same unhealthy habits that we always did, mostly drinking and eating. So, yes, I'm being selfish and saying no a lot more and to them I am…
  • Zero offense taken. You're absolutely right, and I do stay highly aware of my body fat % as well. It's telling the same story. My bf% is just shy of 30. I'm in the high risk zone still. My ultimate goal has nothing to do with my BMI. I'm aiming for approximately 140 pounds, but achieving 20% bf%. So, I'm trying to lose…
  • Thanks guys. I've decided nobody is going to make me feel bad or stop doi g what I want to do.
  • Yeah, I think it's just gotten to a point where my overweight friends are feeling left behind and betrayed, and my skinny friends are feeling threatened and afraid I'll look better than them. Or maybe it's because I've never stuck with anything longer than a couple of weeks and the fact that I have committed to this as a…
  • I doubt that it's that she didn't know what advice to give me as much as there is only so much you can shove into a free 30 minute fitness evaluation/consulation. I had a lot of questions, but their time is money and I don't plan on taking out a training package just to ask them. If I may, since you yourself are a trainer.…
