First rule of Keto is not letting rude comments from people who haven't done any real research on your chosen diet get to you because they will be plentiful! Looking to find some groups and recipes myself as I just started today.

I see most referring specifically to weight loss but the real issue should be about health. In that sense I think it is perfectly warranted to be aware of where your calories are coming from and deliberate about the type of carbs you put in your body. I don't think there are too many people that could argue with me that 42…

You're very welcome! Good luck on your journey this time!

It happens immediately assuming you are in a calorie deficit and not just doing a cleanse of some sort. It may start out with a quick water weight drop, but there is still fat that is a part of that. The water flushes out to a stabilized amount in just a day or two as long as you are drinking water like you're supposed to.

Very catchy title! Always accepting friends if you want to add me. I'm following IIFYM

Thank you

Thank you and apologies. Was not my intent.

Sounds like I'll have to check out this meetup thing. It is harder to put myself out there again than I thought. I am in A small town, Melissa in Collin County.

Thank you ladies.

I don't go to church. I'm agnostic and liberal. That's the probably my biggest setback in meeting people in the most conservative bible belt of America. I live in the Dallas area.

I too have been on this journey for a very long time with still plenty to go. Sending you a request

You just described every woman when she is on her period.

I truly believe that a lifetime of restrictive eating (first diet began at age 10) is what always led me to spiral into binges. I have a very "all or nothing" mindset in everything I do, so when I am doing good, I am doing great, but when I go long enough (usually a couple of months is about my trigger point) without some…

Hi! I'm new here as well, but I didn't experience ahigh calculation of carbs with iifym calculator. In fact it was 105 grams, essentially only 25% of my daily. I was surprised how low actually.
-
I have the premium and am really happy with it. I could always see the percentage in the nutrition field but I like setting macro specific goals and the custom views. Plus I turned off earning back exercise calories so that I could set my goals by grams instead of calories
-
My personal goal is 45% protein, 30% carbs and 25% fat. I don't always hit it, but even if you fall short you'll be better than not paying attention at all.

I've done it with and without the plan. I think the meal plan is great for people who have no concept of normal portion sizes, macros., or clean whole foods versus box, processed junk. It's nutrition 101. That being said if you know all of that then weighing your food, logging it, and sticking to macros will get you a far…

Agree, walk away the pounds. I also started my journey with the 21 Day Fix. I needed to modify it at first but it is short so I just did it 3 rounds until I was no longer using the modifiers and then I moved on.

One day at a time. You will get there. Remember there is no deadline, so don't even try to set a target date. Just focus on being better than you were yesterday, and if that is too hard, focus on doing better than you did at your last meal/snack. Calories are important, but nutrition is the key. Don't fill up your day on…

Use the barcode scanner as much as possible! It's pretty darn accurate.

You can add me too. I am 35, 212 and have similar goals.

Have you had recent bouts of yo yo dieting or super low calorie intake? 1200 seems low in general for a man of your stature that it sounds like your metabolism may be revolting and putting you into a state of homeostasis where it is trying to slow the calorie burn of your activities to self sustain. I would suggest slowly…

Can I just say that it is a real shame that the teachers of our world have to take on second jobs to make a living. I'm sorry. It shouldn't be that way. That's all.

I had RNy as well 13 years ago. I lost 180 Pounds initially but have gained 70 back. I can say it was amazing during the weight loss phase and I would not change anything but what they don't tell you is that eating 600-800 caloroes a day for over a year is going to destroy your metabolism. Your pouch does stretch in…

There is so much well thought out advice here. Thank you everyone. I do have vacation scheduled next week and even though I will be traveling I think the time away from work and refilling my social void with some dear friends and family will give me the boost to come back and take back control of my work life balance.
-
I hate for it to sound like I'm making excuses but my work hours won't let me commit to a regular gym class.

I had the RNY gastric bypass almost 13 years ago. I lost 160 pounds within the first couple of years and then it becomes very easy to start gaining again after that. Like most from my support group back then we have all gained back 40+ pounds some having gone through revisions to switch to different procedures and lose the…

Most nutritionist and trainer I have talked to have told me to do 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. That being said I struggle to hit my macros when I just log caloroes with MFP so I have started a bit of an exchange system instead that gets me there. 4 servings of veggies, 3 servings of fruit, 4 servings of…
-
Every nutritionist and trainer I have talked to has encouraged higher protein and lower carbs and to be specific those carbs should come from more fruits and veggies with natural fiber over refined flours and added sugars. The fats should come from nuts, healthy oils, and things like avocados instead of saturated fats and…

For me, what's helping is trying to become a food snob in a roundabout way. I've been hitting the local farmers market up weekly and trying new flavors and recipes with whole foods grown and prepared with love. The meal feels ten times more rewarding with zero guilt. I'm telling myself it is okay to pay $5 for a dozen farm…
