Great idea! I'm in. It doesn't take perfection, it takes persistence.

I haven't had chocolate since February.

Good perspective. It is so worth it.

My husband got glasses at 5 years old and bi-focals at 10. He had terrible vision. We went to Canada for Lasik surgery 13 years ago and he's had 20/20 vision ever since. His night vision has declined in the last couple of years but at 53 that's not surprising. He followed the doctor's orders to the letter and had a…

Thanks so much for your words of wisdom. Great idea on going to 'big losers' for ideas on what to eat. It makes sense but I'd never considered it.

You're well on your way. Thanks for sharing. Very encouraging.

My name is Jane and I am a non-practicing chocoholic.

It's alright to exercise on an empty stomach if you don't feel hungry. As Ramatang mentions, it is a good idea to eat afterwards to replenish you're body's resources.

I've never considered this. Thanks for sharing.

I'd been considering a scale. Thanks for the input - I think I'll pick one up tomorrow.

Bring a good book and wait in line if it's important to you. It's a matter of principle.

My advice would be to continue on with the other workouts. You'll be able to see an improvement from one week to the next. Be sure to focus on your form. Lift the heaviest weight possible (again, focusing on form). Beginning with push ups on your knees instead of toes is always an option. Dips are a bit tricky since you're…

Amazing! You look incredible. Thanks for sharing.

I'm 5'0" and stand on my toes every morning at work while I'm filling my tea cup with water from the coffee maker. I also climb on the counter to reach the plates or bowls in the kitchenette. My co-workers have grown pretty accustomed to it. I'm pretty sure it adds a little comic relief.

To each his own. Whatever you find that motivates you is great. For some it's pictures of themselves, for others it's how certain clothes fit. My only caution would be that if we're using clothes, they're clothes that will realistically fit (either now or in the future). Buying pants that are one size smaller is realistic…

You look like a different person - and I'm guessing you feel like one too.

Yes. You look great.

Becoming fit is fabulous. Congratulations.

It's more healthy to stay active all week long. We're less prone to injury by moving throughout the week too.

Fabulous. Thanks so much for sharing.

For me the best way to avoid 'junk' food is to replace it with healthy foods. Before you know it, it's the good stuff that your body craves. Once in a while chips or pretzels call my name but it's usually an apple or a banana now.

It's YOUR birthday. It seems like it should be YOUR choice where to go. I get that it's a tradition but it seems like you should be able to pick somewhere that you're able to eat what you want. Go ahead and have a cheat meal/day - just plan for it in your calories prior to the day (and maybe a little after too).

I like tea...but not all tea. There are so many brands and flavors to choose from. If you're determined to drink it, test a few until you find one that you like.

Happy to have found this thread. Very encouraging.

It sounds like you're half way there. Just waking up and admitting that it's a problem is a big step in the right direction.
-
That seems a bit unreasonable. Don't go to bed with a full stomach but be sure to make it there well before you're actually hungry.

You might also want to try New Rules of Lifting for Women or Body for Life for Women. I've read them both and gained some good insight.

Are you still breathing and able to walk? Then it's not too late.

I was so proud of myself at work this morning for passing up a Krispy Kreme that I celebrated in the afternoon by eating the last Krispy Kreme in the box. I'm sure glad these aren't brought in more often.

I actually said this to a friend I hadn't seen in some time. When you've had so many people around you have heart attacks, cancer, or other health issues, that can be the first thing that comes to mind. I was glad to hear that, yes, it was diet and exercise.
