I could not stand to watch live action television until I was about 8 or so. I would only watch programs with animation, claymation, or puppets until then.

Very informative post. I have eaten most of these, some regularly. I think I may need to overhaul my diet. Thanks for the great food tips!

I was told by my doctor not to eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice after going on my synthroid generic. I'm pretty sure he said it might cause a fatal reaction. 'Might' covers a range wider than 0.01% to 99.99% and I didn't really have any qualms about giving up grapefruit (which I never liked anyway). I have no idea…

I ran in the Marines and stopped running after my enlistment. I started back up about 16 months ago (after a decade of not exercising) at age 35 and 300 lbs. Mostly, I run so that a little dog does not feel the need to destroy my house when my wife and I leave for work. I run every day, but I listen to my body. Most days,…

Good for you! There will be many more NSVs to come!

I always crave cheese.

Definitely keep at it. I was away for the holiday, so my internet access was limited (no smart phone for me) and I was away from my scale on Monday so I did not weigh in. My wife and I went to her folks' farm to hunt and they have this whole grazing setup before the meal. I'm an absolute sucker for cheese, so it could have…

Ideally, you should go to a specialty running shoe store and get a fitting. Foot locker will not cut it. Be sure to let them know about any problems you have with your knees or whatnot. If you have been running or walking in your old shoes much, bring them along. They can often tell alot about what you need from the wear…

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement, everybody! I'm coming up on two months with MFP and have found all the support really inspiring!
-
At my last weight loss, MFP decided to keep my calories the same but adjust me from losing 1 lb. per week to 0.8 lbs. per week. I had to reset my goals to my liking. I suggest you try that as well.

Most people can only kick a ball well with their dominant foot. Makes sense that one leg is better at doing things or stronger than another. I would not expect as big of a difference as you would find for arms/hands.

She's definitely hurting and lashing out at you. You really need to drag her along to work out and sit her down in front of MFP so she can start logging her calories. If she doesn't come along for the weight loss journey with you, you will literally leave her behind. I think a little tough love is the right way to go here.…

For a personal size pizza (8") you can figure two slices of a 16". Look up a 16" veggie pizza and log two slices of that. It won't be exact, but it should be close enough so you've got a better idea of your calories, carbs and fat grams and what not. Contrary to what we may think, the human body is not an exact science--at…

I can eat these foods when I'm already full. If these foods did not exist, I would probably only…

I love to run because aside from the shoes, it costs NOTHING and is a great cardio and strength building exercise (my neighborhood has a LOT of hills). My dogs go with me and they love me for taking them. Also, I weigh a lot so I burn tons of calories runninng this massive body around, which translates to not having to go…

Just keep losing weight. If you are an apple, you will lose your arm and chest weight last. Definitely consider some arm, shoulder and chest exercises with light dumbbells or other upper body calisthenics to help tone your arms and chest. If you don't you will probably end up with that undesired bat-wing effect which only…

Looks like nobody wants to touch this one... There are many improvements to be made by this site's developers. Your question highlights just one of them...

Somebody said I look a lot like Liev Shreiber. I think I'd want Ed Norton to play me, though.

I support the Harrisburg Rugby Football Club, the local side to which I belong. I just started playing with them this past February and played in all of our A matches and all but 2 of our B matches this year. I never touched a rugby ball before this year. I really enjoy the sport and the camaraderie.

You are still really young. It took me a while to settle down enough to actually get my life to resemble some kind of routine. Now, I'm counting calories, not skipping out on my exercise days, I'm listening to my body and the pounds are falling off. When you can get to that point in your life where the drama subsides or is…

I would not freak out. If your body is really really hungry, you need to feed it. Just because staying under calories is the right thing to do, don't stop listening to your body's cues. You may be hungry because you don't have enough protein to build the muscles your body decides you need to keep up with your new…

I'd invest in some decent gore tex and under armor and keep running outside. I am not a fan of the treadmill. Just sayin'. Hope you change your mind on this.
-
Ofcourse. To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. That is it. If you consume a lot of calories, you may want to consider doing some exercise to help your body burn what you've put into it. Building stronger muscles means your body needs to burn more calories just to survive. If you weigh in every…

I was diagnosed in the spring of 2010. My symptoms were pretty awful and I actually had to change doctors to find out what was wrong with me. I am sorry to hear about your job loss. I hope you find work soon. After your initial visit, you should be getting your blood checked every six weeks or so to see if your dosage…

Everybody here has some great advice about exercise and what-not. You may want to consider the following: Are you clinically depressed? If you have not seen a therapist in a while (or ever) it is not a bad idea to have a visit, especially if you are identifying yourself as depressed. Many decent health insurance packages…
